Philips 50' Dumb tv...so bad – Oh boy, how to review the absolute worst tv i've ever owned...and i've owned a b&w tv in my povo youth, so yeah... I researched this tv prior to purchase. The price had dropped considerably (all retailers) & that appeared to be primarily due to poor software & internet connectivity. No big deal, i thought, in 2020 i was in a real hurry for a… Read more

good cheap picture for the footy, the rest was less of a concern...

...i should have paid closer attention.

Pos: + good picture + menu's are mostly logical & user-friendly

Neg: - switches off randomly, confuses function buttons - randomly switches back on after you switch it off - "smart" functions are useless; acts like it's all available but actually won't connect to anything & therefore won't update itself. (I have it hard-wired to nbn router, same as my gaming pc, but no dice) - the absolute worst tv speakers i've ever heard - from a decades long speaker manufacturer. It's like they just threw in '90's walkman headphone speakers figuring buyers would opt to buy a soundbar. Screeching highs, no mid, no bass. (I recommend Edifier S350DB 2.1 setup for small-mid size room music & movies) - has an infuriating "did you know.. " insert in my channel faves, that randomly moves as I scroll (it cannot be deleted & often screws up program recording as I try to set it).

I don't know how this thing passed QC, but clearly beta testing is not Philips idea of ensuring new models function as intended. Clearly no longer a new model, and a lemon from the start, if this türd is still on the market in 2025 just opt for anything else.

Not enough apps – It’s disappointing that there is no googLe pLay store & you can’t mirror your phone. There are so many other apps out there just as good as netfLix but you can’t downLoad them on this tv.. might be time for a new tv, might use this for gaming Show details

One major downfall – Generally I'm happy with the tv. It does take longer from the time you press ON for it to show the picture compared to TV's of friends (no big deal) and I can't seem to be able to use kayo sporting app through it but I'll survive. The actual main issue is that on channels abc, sbs and viceland it narrates so much it is very annoying. I respect… Read more

that the function has a purpose for people who need it but when following instructions and literally turning the function off by clicking on it and the dot appearing in the circle of "off", it still narrates. Very dissapointed.

Excellent tv however almost useless – Bought a smart tv and was very happy with the picture quality. Sound wasn't great but I bought a sound bar and the HDMI arc works a treat. Very clear, very brilliant and the tv looks fresh and modern. The massive downside is that there is no Google Play store. Phillips have added their own app store which has a bunch of unknown random apps. We… Read more

can't download Disney Plus, Stan or anything of the like.

You get Netflix, YouTube and Prime pre installed and that's it.

So as a smart tv it's not very smart. You can't download APK files and install anything via USB because the tv won't recognise APK files.

You can't download a file manager because the Phillips app store doesn't have any.

Miracast doesn't work on it even though the option is there.

Really nice tv but you can't watch all your subscriptions on it. Kinda pointless right? That's like buying a microwave that only allows you to make popcorn, reheat pizza and leftover chicken, nothing else!

Do not buy – Horrible tv. No Australian apps on it. No Stan, Netflix etc. Turns on and off by itself. Slow, freezes. Should not be sold in Australia. Should have returned it in the first week. Show details

both dying after 11 months – Purchased 2 from Aldi, one for Elderly Parents. Won't turn on intermittently and picture disappears. Going through hoops to get repair, time on phone, have to send emails, and then have to take them to repair shop. Phillips should just replace them, not good enough Show details

Don't purchase – Was excited to have purchased my first smart tv, only to be very disappointed, it is not compatible with Stan, when watching a series the system would jam, it was not the internet connection as I tried different programs and they worked fine. I have to unplug the power weekly as the whole system gets stuck, it is temperamental when you can choose… Read more

Great TV, but incompetent support – While unpacking the TV, I discovered 2 screws missing from the back. I contacted Philips support and after going through numerous hoops to prove ownership and explaining exactly which screws were missing, I was told “they could not help me and that my only recourse was to return the TV”. Furthermore, the manual states that there is a Philips… Read more

IPhone app that is available to control the TV. I downloaded the app, but this cannot find the TV even though a third app had no trouble doing so. After reporting this to Philips support, I was told again that nothing could be done to resolve this issue. So, after this experience, I have to say that I am grossly dissappointed in Philips. How could they let the brand be so tarnished by such incompetance from their support? The Philips brand used to stand for high quality, but from my experience, those days are over. I will certainly not be considering Philips for any future purchases.

models. For your interest, the TV brochure attached to this email.

The apps available are those already preinstall on the TV set such as Netflix, Youtube, Prime video, etc. Additional apps can be found from the Philips apps gallery under the Home menu. However, the apps available were not all optimized for the ANZ region.

Not all of the Philips models that come with Android TV systems which offer you greater ability with apps and features. If you felt that this Saphi smart model did not suit for purpose, I would recommend contacting the place you bought it from for return or exchange.

Fair performance for a fair price – Had this TV had cost more money, then yes maybe I would have given a lower rating. but it's priced fairly, it doesn't over promise and under deliver. It delivers expectations in line with it's price tag. Fair enough. Overall picture is good and if you're not a big stickler for the software side this will play also digital channels and free to air just fine. Show details ·  1

Great TV...would buy again! – The title says it all...and I 'did' buy the same model again. The next week in fact! Now when viewing in the lounge room or family room you don't need to fumble with the remote and hope you don't select the wrong button. In saying that, the remote control has a hollow sound, but it works OK, not sure if this would stop anyone buying this model.… Read more

Picture quality is clear and one TV connects via WiFi while the other via Cat6 cable, both are the same quality, already had the cable setup with a previous TV, but next time wouldn't bother as it doesn't make any difference. Bluetooth speakers improve audio quality, but depends what you are watching as several audio options available in settings menu.

Great for watching YouTube tutorials when too much sport on FTA TV. Pleased with the TV and no real complaints. Hope this helps?

No Apps to install like Skype, Yupp TV – Hi This is Kalki Chaitanya and purchased this TV 50 inches 6100 series on Dec 2018. Very limited apps to browse and unable to install Skype to do video calling to home & Yupp TV app where you can watch regional channels from India. Other TVs like Samsung has these abilities and not much happy until I can install YUPP TV && SKYPE apps in my smart TV. Waste of money if PHILIPS didn’t provide solution to this Thank you
