Reg :HMP5000/79. My YouTube not working. After clicking on you tube , just showing youtube logo with black screen

Wayne

Hi Goldy, That's because the LINK is "Hard Coded" in the Player! It's the same with Facebook. You will find that does not work either. I tried to get Philips to rectify this by asking for an Update to the Software on the Player but was informed that they do not make this player any more and there is NO Support. What annoyed me at the time was that THIS Player is STILL being Sold. If there is no Support, and functions of the Player do not work as described, then it should be "Withdrawn" from all sales. VERY Poor response from a Multinational Company Like Philips

I have 2 of these players now gathering Dust!

My Suggestion - Cheapest of your alternatives - Do yourself a BIG favor and Ditch it! Go out and purchase a Google ChromeCast with Google TV if you have an old TV Plug into you HDMI Port - Cost me $105 Delivered from The Good Guys.

Or Buy a New TV if you can Afford it -The New Smart Tv's have Youtube, Netflix and more....

G'day, I have just returned from a month holiday and find that I cant access my videos and movies on my HMP5000 media player. It has been installed and working for around 5 years. It connects to the wifi network and sees my son's computer and tablet. It does not see my computer and I find that it no longer exists in the computers printers and devices. I cant seem to find a way to recognize it. Network sharing is all set up correctly. How do I set it up as a device again on my computer?

Hello, I got the same issue..missing Remote & i can't power on the device. I currently reside in New Zealand. I contacted several times the same number which is mentioned above 0800 639 953 unfortunately not even connecting the line. I did sent mail to Philips-av@agos.com.au for support & no response as well. I did raise this issue with other representatives but they said will fix or call me back but still no response. Totally unsatisfactory & won't recommend anyone to buy products from Philips. Thanks Raj

does this device support 2TB or higher HDD? can this play a movie of over 10GB in filesize?

Rachy
Rachy

I use a 1.5 TB HDD and have absolutely no issues. I would say it would be fine. Unfortunately the biggest size in movie i hve played is about 4GB. I have always had one of these players and have been very happy with them. They no longer make them which is sad because i need to buy another one.

Thanks for the responses guys

Philips Domestic Appliances
Philips Domestic Appliances   DM

Hi Daughn, We have had some issues with HDD's larger that 1TB. The HMP USB power supply can't handle some HDD's so you will have to have an external power supply for the HDD. The HMP5000 will play any movie as long as it's in the correct format that it supports and the HDD has enough power.

Thanks.

Philips Domestic Appliances
Philips Domestic Appliances   DM

Hello, thank you for reaching out to us. We would like to see if we can help you with your Media Player. Kindly be advised that the device can interact with your network via Wi Fi and transmit that content to your TV, but not directly from the internet. The only internet services that it can access directly are Facebook, AccuWeather, Youtube and Picasa. You can find instructions on how to add these services on page 22 of this manual: external link  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us on 1300 850 633 if you are in Australia.

Mine has a flashing white (presumably) LED on the front, and does nothing else. No picture, no sound, no menu, nothing. Has been in storage for a few years, and before that had been used for probably no more than 30 hours. Does it have a battery that needs replacing or something like that?

Hello Philips Australia Team. I called the number you provided, unfortunately the people who replied insisted that I had called home appliances and I would need to call someone else. So I called the people they recommend who furnished an address to take the device to so as it could be looked at with view to possible repair. Everything to be at my expense, as the device is out of warranty.

Given the small amount of time the device has actually been powered up, I find the situation unsatisfactory enough to discount philips from any future consideration for consumer electronics. As I am sure you will understand.

thanks, tim

Hi there,

I've been using my media player Hmp5000 for a couple of years now, watching movies via an external hard drive. I never had any major issues until now with the latest movie downloads and external *srt (greek subs) file, the displayed subtitles shown are gibberish. Please help since the *.srt files have Unicode (UTF-8) and can view the movie on my PC with these Greek subs and have no issue. Issue is just being unable to view the movie on my media player.

Thanks!

Effie

Hey there, thank you for sharing your issue so elaborated. The HMP5000 supports .srt subtitles. Make sure that the subtitle filename is the same as the video filenam, and DivX video file and the subtitle file are saved under the same directory. This should work, good luck!

I am considering purchasing item but have a couple of questions.

I note that item has a limited internet functionality, does that include software updating?

If it does why do you not address the codec limitations I have obseved being addressed in above comments.

I also note that you have to have media player compatibility. If you want to have a broad spectrum player why not associate with a program that has Media codec compatabilty like VLC and not waste time on Microsoft Software?

Long since replaced it with a "Smart" TV.
