I was sceptical. But it works as well as professional IPL

published

I've had the Lumea for about 6 weeks and over 2-3 treatments i've seen the same results as professional IPL. No pain, treated hairs fall out after a week. Fabulous!

Purchased in July 2020 at Shaver Shop for $499.00.

Definitely works!

So glad I bought this, I read a lot of reviews on it but still wasn't convinced. I've had it for a few months now and it was advised to use once every fortnight but I've used it once a week. Really happy with the results though, after the first 3-4 uses I noticed the hair started getting thinner and slower growing and now I only have to shave once a week (right before I do the treatment) instead of daily!

Purchased in March 2019 at Shaver Shop Online store for $339.00.

Excellent results

I purchased this model three months ago and have had no trouble with its operability. After relatively lengthy use at level 5 it can overheat and need a couple of minutes to cool off, but otherwise it has worked faultlessly. The cord length is generous and the machine design makes it comfortable to hold. After three treatments I was pleasantly surprised to discover a noticeable reduction in hair growth. I've found that for best results I've needed to apply treatments over more weeks than the instructions imply, but am very happy to have achieved smooth almost hair free skin, painlessly. Great investment considering the ongoing cost of waxing or shaving.

Absolutely fantastic. Exceeded my expectations

I was sceptical thus would work but after 4 weeks i have almost zero hair. It didnt happen immediately so i thought it wasnt doing much but after 3 sessions i can clearly see results. Mostly painless to use. Good control over level means it can be adjusted to suit tender areas. Easy to apply takes 5-10 minutes each time depending on area.
I love this and cant believe it works so well. Excellent value at this price.
Highly recommended

Lumea Advanced IPL

Hi there,
I was wandering so the device does not get rid of the hair for ever no matter how long you use it?

And I have some hair grow under the skin in my legs is it safe to use it on them?

Hi there, thanks for asking. 100% permanent hair removal is highly unlikely, regardless of whether you use IPL at your home or at a salon. You will always require regular maintenance to keep your skin fully hair-free.

About your second question, the answer is yes. That is completely safe. Hope this helps!

Kind regards,

The Philips Australia Team

Lumea Advanced IPL

I have Philips IPLSC2001/01 from 2011. My daughter never used it. I have used it so it was in new condition. I have used about 6 times in the last few months. It switches on, is placed on the skin correctly but the ready light does not come on. Why? How can I fix it please?

Philips S.Philips

Hi there. Thank you for your question here. We're sorry to hear your Lumea is not working correctly, and can imagine this is quite inconvenient for you. We advise you to Place the appliance in a 90° angle onto the skin in such a way that all contact switches touch the skin. Then check if the ‘ready to flash’ light is on and press the flash button. If this does not work, place the appliance on a part of your body where it is easy to establish full skin contact, for example on your lower arm. Then check if the ‘ready to flash’ light works. Finally, please clean the safety ring carefully. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the following numbers: 1300 363 391 from Monday - Friday: 09:00 am - 05:00 pm EST or 0800 658 224 from Monday - Friday: 09:00 am - 05:00 pm EST. Our colleagues are happy to help you out.

Lumea Advanced IPL

I have my Philips lumea around a year, I have used it around 15 times, now when I turn it on, it keeps flashing white and not working, has anyone had a similar experience or any advice on what could be the issue and how to fix it?

1 answer

Philips S.Philips

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. The most common way of troubleshooting this is to reset the device. In order to do so, please turn off your device and leave it off for a few minutes, then turn it back on. This will reset your device and it should be ready to go.

If the issue persists, we'd like to refer you to our product team for more information. You can reach them directly on 1300 363 391 (Australia), or 0800 658 224 (New Zealand) from Mondays to Saturdays: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm EST. They'll be happy to help.

Kind regards,
The Philips Australia Team

Philips Lumea Advanced IPL

Details

The mid-range version of the popular Philips Lumea Prestige, Philips’ Lumea Advanced model retails at $559, compared to the Lumea’s price of around $750.

Advertised as providing ‘gentle, long-term hair reduction,’ Philips seems to have produced many happy customers. Most reviews expressed happiness at the quality of their product, and how quickly they witnessed effective results in progress.

The Philiips Advanced IPL is suitable for arms, legs, belly, bikini and armpits, and for face areas on the chin, sideburns and upper lip. There are three separate attachments for use on body, face and bikini.

There are 250, 000 lamp flashes (at enough for 15 years of monthly treatments, this is plenty), five power settings and a skin tone sensor.

The Advanced model differs from the Prestige in these ways:

  • It is corded with an extra long cord (compared to the Prestige’s cordless design)
  • It is not suitable on medium/dark skin tones. Using the Fitzpatrick skin standards chart, you can use the Advanced model on skin tones I to IV, but not V (dark brown) or VI (very dark brown). The Prestige is however suitable for V – dark brown skin, whereas no IPL is suited to very dark brown shades.

Philips estimates it takes both models about 15 minutes to treat the lower legs, though some reviewers commented initially it might take longer. Both models have skin sensors to select the right light intensity for your skin.

The main difference may be a logistical one: it is harder to find Lumea Advanced models to buy. The LumeaPrestige seems to be so popular that most most retailers are stocking them, while hardly any are selling the older Lumea Advanced models.
