No Adapter with Philips 7000 shavers – Philips shavers in Australia only come with a usb cord and no adapter but this is not clearly flagged on the packaging. I only realised the absence of the adapter after opening the packaging. Philips claim more than 90% of consumers have a suitable 5V >1A AC/DC splash proof adapter and say they don’t supply adapters to save on plastic waste and meet UN sustainability goals.
I didn’t have a suitable adapter so phoned Philips customer service. Chose the option for spare parts and was directed to what turned out to be a separate company - Statewide Appliances - that charged $23.95 for adapter and $15 for delivery. It took several days for adapter to arrive and I couldn’t use shaver during that time.
I complained to customer service by email and phone but they maintained their line that most people already have an adapter and that because they provide details of required adapter online that is enough. But people don’t look at websites when buying a shaver in a shop and the absence of adapter is not adequately flagged on the package (it is in a lower corner of the box in small print)
In the end, customer service agreed to extend warranty on my shaver from two years to four as they could not refund cost of adapter. Judging from some reviews indicating shavers sometimes fail after 2 years the extended warranty is probably of value.
But Philips should accept that their flagging of absence of adapter on packaging is inadequate and they should highlight it more. After all, they are positioning it as a policy to promote UN sustainability goals and as such should make the absence of an adapter more obvious.
Purchased in at Harvey Norman for $240.

Solid Feature Rich Product at a Respectable Price – NOTE; this is the NEW version of the 7000 series (confusing product labeling on behalf of Philips). I was always curious but very hesitant to get an electric shaver, but as I have got older, I was finding I was getting more razer burn on my neck. It was time to commit. I spoke to several long term users of electric shavers and every one of them said they had tried several brands and always come back to Philips. They did say, avoid the really cheap ones.
I jumped on the Black Friday sales and here I am. I’ve been using this for a few weeks and couldn’t be happier.
For the sake of curiosity, I shaved exactly 50% of my face with a razor and 50% with the electric shaver and asked my wife to compare. Just for you, I took a photo! This alone deserves a upvote!
Visibly there was zero difference in the 2 types of shaves, by feel, it’s about 95% as good as a close shave. I was just dry shaving however, I’ve started using it in the shower - there’s less friction, and it seems to get a slightly closer shave.
I haven’t charged it since topping up from new, and it’s still above 50%. So I would expect 3-4 weeks from a charge.
There is an app with a shaving technique tracker and who knows what else. Quite frankly I have ZERO interest in downloading an app for my shaver. So I can’t comment on that.
It has a little indicator light to tell you how good your circular shaving technique is. I actually find this annoying. I know what works but I don’t need a little red flashing light to judge my performace at the end of a shave, I can easily get the green light in the shower, but getting it with a dry face is hard. Red flashing light it is! It’s by no means a deal breaker but a useless feature IMHO and I don’t like to be judged by a shaver…. Nor do I want to pay for circuits and Bluetooth components I will not use.
I bought a spare set of blades for around $50. You’re supposed to get well over a year with the original blades.
Interestingly I bought a $30 Philips AA battery travel shaver and it does a similar job albeit with a bit more work required.
It comes with a cleaning stand and disposable liquid filled cartridge. It works well. Place upside down on the stand and turn it on. It goes on and off and does its own thing for a minute or 2. My frustration with this, is the fact that the cartridge when mounted in the cleaning dock, doesn’t come with a LID!!!! I have to cover it with glad wrap else it’s liable to evaporate unnecessarily. I guess they want you to buy cleaning cartridges more often?
I always rinse with water first and don’t see why one cleaning / lube cartridge won’t last well over a year. Time will tell. I use it about once a week.
If you’re in the market. I think this is a great place to start. I bought one for my grandfather in law and a work colleague bought one after chatting to him about it. Both parties are happy with theirs.
Oh, it has a 7-8 year warranty. So. There’s that!
If this was helpful, be sure to give it an upvote. It takes time to write reviews and get them certified with receipts!
