A good pair of headphones for TV listening but has a replacement battery issue – I bought 2 pairs of these headphones, one for my partner and one for my mother when the Dick Smith chain was closed down. They both have hearing issues and have found that the headphones work well for both of them. I have no complaints over the audio quality and is more than adequate for the job for which they were bought. I have found that the… Read more ·  1

docking station can be a bit temperamental and sometimes you have to 'wiggle' the headphones to get them to charge. There is a problem with the batteries in that you are suppose to only use the specified batteries made by Phillips. When the battery cover is removed, you will notice that there is a small spring clip next to each of the 'negative' terminals. The specified Philips batteries have a metal ring around the negative end of the battery this makes contact with both the clip at the side of the battery and the battery spring contact on the end of the battery. If you replace the Philips batteries (as I did because one battery failed) with off the shelf AAA rechargeable batteries, the headphones will work, but will not charge re-charge. The solution was simple, cut a small section of the plastic sleeve of the replacement battery at the negative end and when you install it, make sure that the metal case of the battery contacts both the side spring and the battery retaining spring. Other than the battery replacement issue, the headphones seem to work quite well.

The SHC 8800. Headphones. Work great until the battery goes flat. The base station won’t change the battery’s – A great set of headphones let down by a flawed charging station. I’ll have to remove them every time they go flat and charge them in a wall charger. Hope others have better luck. As this has happened twice in the 15 months I feel these are not fit for purpose. Show details

comfortable headphones – These headphones do the job of amplifying without buzz or feedback. Very comfortable to wear and easy to operate. Only downside is the charging station where it is tricky to set the headphones into just the right position to sit on the charge points and the headphone sometimes slip off the charge points because it is only a contact charge which… Read more

Comfortable And Good Audio – I am quietly pleased with these. I wear theme most evenings to watch TV and they are extremely comfortable, even for long viewing sessions. The connection is strong and stable but the range isn't super long so I get a bit on static on the way to the kitchen and back but its solid in the same room. Battery life is long, I never have to worry about it. These are good earphones.  Show details ·  1

Excellent sound quality! – These headphones are very comfortable to wear. I love the fact that they're wireless and rechargeable. Unfortunately I had to return the first pair I bought to the place of purchase as the charging station wasn't working. I was given a replacement immediately. Have been very happy with the new pair.  Show details ·  1

Not as convenience as expect – I purchased to use as wireless headphone, however it has a connection base with it and if you go away from its base, sometimes voices got breaking. I bought it for $199.00 from dick smith two years ago, but it worth this price if you just need a wireless headphone nearby.  Show details

Solved a major issue but wish sound quality better – We live in a small house with a baby so besides walking on eggshells it also meant that TV noise was down to a minimum (hello subtitles). But these headphones have saved me from that nightmare. Just wish the sound quality wasn't so 'tinny.' Still, I am happily subtitle free :)  Show details

Fantastic – I've purchased these headphones firstly to watch tv night time without disturbing anyone. Then, as my phone calls create has increased, I discovered, reading the manual, that I could use them as a phone head set. it was a big revelation. I use them now for my calls, web calls, webinars, I can go around the house with no drop in the signal. I really like them.  Show details ·  1

The previous model SHC1300/79 – The only fault I found with this earlier model was the placing of the headphones on the charging station was not very accurate. The sound was very good and the headset was very comfortable. Hearing range was very good. If this newer model has an improved "resting" technique it would be hard to fault.  Show details

would certainly disturb my neighbours. Now I can listen in comfort. They are a godsend. I had a set of headphones which after 11 years gave up the ghost and was afraid that the new ones would not be as good. I need not have worried. They are much better. The sound is clear as a bell and when I am working in the kitchen or cleaning my teeth in the bathroom I can still follow the news or the storyline of a film. They looked much bigger than my old ones, but they are light as a feather and very comfortable. I could not be happier.

Frustrated over the smaller things – I find the sound great and headset comfortable BUT it takes me forever to get the headphones onto the docking station. charging : -well here is a tip for you development team next time say that we have to switch the phones off with power button (manually) then put them on the charger otherwise they won't start charging most of the time. So many problems – These are really terrible, shame on you Philips! Have these headphones ever been tested for public opinion? headphones which worked fairly well until they died of old age I guess so I decided to upgrade to this newer version.

Installing the batteries is almost impossible as the cover on this model is flush with the headphone so no finger hold to pull it off.

I finally had to resort to using a sharp knife to dislodge the cover.

The left side of my headphones has been fading in and out in volume the other side is fine.

The headphones are extremely uncomfortable in use as they are too tight which I assume is made that way to fit into the ridiculous charging holder but over time the earphone width has got larger and don't fit into the charger the way they were supposed to.

The headphones are too light to securely rest on the charging pins, my older version had a secure plug for charging, much easier to charge.

When wearing the headphones my ears get very hot and sweaty because the ear cups are covered in some material like leather but it's plastic and has no ventilation.

My older version Philips headphones used material and were far more comfortable in use.

I have had these just over a week now and must return them and I don't want this model again in exchange.

They are not suitable for the purpose they were intended for.

Don't be fooled into buying this model!

members just grab them and use them (no adjustment required). Overall fantastic product and we are buying another set. They outperform many more expensive brands we have owned (sennheiser wireless sound quality is terrible in comparison). The charger cradle docking is a little bit fiddley but it doesn't take long to check it is engaged & charging. We haven't really found this a big deal. They keep plenty of charge as sometimes they are left around the house for a day or so and still work fine. Overall I would recommend!

Convenient but very uncomfortable – I own a pair of Philips SBC HP250 wired headphones but there are many times when wired headphones are inconvenient. I was very happy with those so I decided to buy another set of Philips headphones, but wireless this time. I found the Philips Digital Wireless Headphones (SHD8600/79) for $79 at Officeworks (I’ve seen them for $150 or more at some… Read more

stores). They were significantly cheaper than most of the other digital wireless headphones, and I didn’t want analogue wireless headphones (I’d tried a pair and found that there was a constant hissing sound), so I decided to give these Philips headphones a try.

The sound quality of these headphones is fine, but one earpiece will often cut out during quiet periods of a program (presumably to save battery power). The solution suggested by Sebling worked: turn the volume up on the source and turn the volume down on the headphones. (Thanks, Sebling!)

On the subject of batteries, these headphones use two AAA rechargeable batteries, but they are a special type called shortened sleeve rechargeables. You can use normal rechargeables but the manual states that they can’t be recharged in the headphones (you’d have to use a normal battery charger). There are a number of websites that state that normal rechargeables can be charged in these 'phones, but you need to shave the plastic case off the lowest half a cm or so of the battery. I haven’t tried this, though, so I can’t say if it works or not.

The biggest issue with these headphones, however, is that they are very uncomfortable. The plastic band joining the earpieces is not adjustable. Instead, the adjustment is via an elastic band under the plastic band. This band pulls the headphones painfully up against the bottom of my ears. It is truly the worst adjustment method I’ve seen on any headphones. If they were even of average comfort, I would have rated them as a 3.5 or a 4, but they are so uncomfortable that I can only give them 2 stars out of 5.

3 years old, working fine – I've had these headphones for 3 years and never had a problem, sound is good, Doof doof music has good bass, movies have clear sound. If you throw them at the charging base they may not sit properly, but placing the headphones on the base will match up the charging pins just fine. Returned them – I purchased a pair but the sound quality was terrible and I could only get one side to work. They would not sit in the recharge base properly. I also found them cumbersome and the controls difficult to manage. The maximum volume was very poor sound and I expect more from a well known brand. Sound quality; recharge facility

Absolutely Dreadful, useless – These headphones are mediocre at best. Audio quality 1/5, comfort 2/5, convenience 5/5 – I just got myself a pair of these and am not happy with them. I am going to try and return them. 3 main reasons: 1) It has been noted that these are not "audiophile" quality, but I'm no audiophile, and I find the audio to be worse than any full-cup headphones I've tried. Most notably, the digital compression artefacts (used to make it wireless)… Read more

are clearly audible, dampening the sound and making it tinny and flat. The response range may be as reported on the box, but the digital compression kills that response particularly in the low end, resulting in almost ear-bud range of dynamics.

2) They are uncomfortable for me. I have an average size head and ears. They only just fit my ears, but because they use a sprung band for size variation, they only have one natural position which is for a small head, and anyone else will have slight pressure on the bottom of their ears to keep it stretched to fit. As they have no ventilation, they get hot after about an hour or two even in an air-conditioned environment.

3) The "squelch" is far too sensitive. That is, they cut out when the volume is low, so when watching a film, when there is no conversation or music, they cut out, so quiet atmospherics such as wind or traffic in the background cuts out abruptly. Very unsettling. This can be compensated for by turning up the volume on the source, and down on the headphones themselves, but that volume resets each time they are placed on the charger or turned off!

That said, these were my first pair of wireless headphones, and I love the convenience. The base-station system is excellent. Perhaps if you had a small head and ears, didn't want to wear them for long periods of time, were very insensitive to audio quality, and really wanted wireless headphones on the cheap, these may be for you. They're convenient bad audio quality, uncomfortable
