Piksters Interdental Brushes

The dark blue ones should be banned - they are way too thin and regularly break off . I have started flossing for good again, as I worry I’m swallowing small bits of metal which are carcinogenic . Show details
Now with stronger stiffer wire last about HALF the time of the originals. Brush breaks off with a few uses. NOT WORTH BUYING ANYMORE for expensive price. Will floss instead, Customers are not fools as chemist told me others had similar issue.
Follow-up · Current new wire Lasted approx 6 uses Old wire lasted approx 15 uses before breaking Updated new Weak wire likely cause
Product has gone downhill – I came to this review after discovering the quality of Piksters has seemed to drop off recently. They last half as long as they used to, and remain the same price. They break easily after very little use, and even before when they were ok, break off in your teeth. Greed is probably the answer, but people aren’t stupid. Poor quality product dropped on loyal customers. We won’t buy again. Show details

Head falls off first use – I've used two sizes, the 0, as reccomend by dentist. It doesn't seem to matter how gentle I am, the brush head detached, often during first use, I think 'reusable' on the packaging is false. They do actually work well for the limited life and use time. Show details

Must buy – hey, amazed to see negative reviews. I've been a dentist for 25 years and this is a revolutionary and brilliant product. I have been looking for something to allow my patients to clean interdentally with efficiency and this is the best I have found. I use it myself every day Show details
Using it for almost 2 years now – I've been using them since suggested by periodontist. I was using other brands before i switched to this brand. The old one I used was too small for me as per instructed by periodontist & he reckon it won't clean properly. I got a free pack from him to try & decided to switch to Piksters after that. they offer different sizes which fits well… Read more
with my gaps (i got combination of small & big gap), i need to use 2 different sizes every time to clean. i found this brand last longer compared to the old one & stronger brushes too. it also handy to take that with me when I am away some where for weekend, always have spare pack in my bags. I am now into the 2nd box with size 6 & will keep using it.
the down side of it i don't think it's environmental friendly as it made by plastics.
Best option if you can't used floss – I was told to stop using floss because of receding gums, and to use interdental brushes instead. They do the job well, except the metal tends to bend easily no matter how careful I am trying to keep it straight. The only area I need to avoid is around my implant. It would be good to have interdental brushes we could clean and re-use for 2 months, like a toothbrush... better for the environment and better for our pocket.

Misleading and toxic – Please be aware that a Google search of biodegradble plastics (which is the catergory for Pickster's products) is "just as harmful as petrolium-based plastics", and includes many toxic chemcials as well. Show details
Not worth it – These are rubbish. I agree with most of the negative reviews. The wire is sharp and pointy and I often it breaks off. They are a hazard for your mouth. The small sizes are nearly unusable as they bend so easily. I am going with a different brand now. Show details
Unusable – I wish I could give a rating of zero stars as I am unable to use Piksters - the plastic covers cannot be removed without destroying the contents. They used to be great but someone in the company has made some terrible decisions. Don't waste your money. Show details

Wth is the point of the plastic thing & why can't I get it off? – Where do I start... first off I spent 8 dollars on ten toothpics ( RIP OFF ) secondly. I couldn't even open the plastic thing... spent at least a hour trying. Still can't by the way. Thirdly, what's the point in the plastic thing? & Why is there a plastic cover, that you can't get off?! Overall wouldn't know how good the product is, because I simply couldn't get the plastic thing off the BRUSH. Show details
Quality is definitely substandard – they used to be great... now... rubbish... I use the pink ones and since the plastic has changed to the bright pink colour they break almost immediately. the brush spins around and then breaks and I have gotten them stuck a few times in the gaps in my teeth...

Low quality – As many have stated, the quality of these has gone downhill. I really only noticed this last year (2023) after using them for a few years before that. I used to get up to a few weeks out of each brush, now they break or start to deteriorate almost immediately. It's possibly a production glitch or change of manufacturer, but I have a suspicion… Read more
that it's deliberate - lower their costs while introducing built-in obsolescence, so people use more.
They are effective though, so I'll look for another brand.
Bought a packet of 10 blue and I've used 5 so far and all the wires spin and break on first use – Bought a pack of 10 blue and they are defective as I have only used one of the green from a packet I bought of 35. Don't want to go back to tepe but might have to with the cost of using these once. Manufactured in three continents they claim! Africa, Asia and South America is my guess. Show details
Piksters Interdental Brushes – I have been using piksters for many years however the head have been breaking off even though the pack states Stronger Stiffer Wire. This morning the head broke off and I accidentally swallowed it, I am concerned and not happy. Show details
Poor products – Poor. I was keen to have bamboo products but having tried several products in this range I will not buy again. Wire twists within seconds making it impossible to angle it correctly. Very frustrating to use and poor value. Show details
Brush head very soon always broke off in teeth – At first they’re very satisfying however within a few teeth’s use brush head always breaks off and gets dangerously wedged in teeth!such a shame they’re so flimsy Be very Careful not to breathe it in whilst removing Show details
swallowed nearly half not sure – these are awful they are weak they have cleaned my last upper molars but this time i nearly swallowed it they are unsafe, cheap and wont be using it again i have informed my dentist who recommended it. brush nearly swallowed broke in my mouth.
Change in product – I recently ran out of the “old “ dental floss sticks, these new ones are inferior in quality size and strength, they don’t do the job of the older version they are not “stronger & stiffer” and I won’t be buying them again after being a loyal customer for many many years as they were suggested by my dentist. I can’t see the dentists continuing to recommend these new dental floss stocks
Poor product – I tried these on the advice of my dentist. The result? I now have a very painful infected abscess on my gum requiring expensive dental intervention and I am having to take two strong types of antibiotics. When I mentioned this to another woman she said that she had the same condition after also using Piksters and showed me the abscess in her… Read more
mouth! She is now quite unwell because of her infected gum. You maybe could argue against one person having this result, but two?
Over priced and underwhelming quality – Have used several iterations of these picks and have seen the quality deteriorate over the years. The brushes break off too easily as they keep changing the materials used to make the product. I've since used flossing picks which are a lot cheaper and last much longer!

Brush broke and stuck in back molar!!! – I bought these about 1wk ago and to my dispear the brush broke and it now wedged I between my molars. I have to get it out by a dentist as I'm unable to even feel it. I'll be going back to chemist warehouse for a refund and will hit up pikster if I am out of pocket! This should not be on the market if its a potential hazard. Very disappointed to say the least Show details
O.K – Been using piksters for years after having braces and recommend by my dentist. They clean between teeth good, I use a few times and wash just to save money because they can get expensive if using once and throwing. I would say be careful when choosing the right size, don’t jam anything! I have had some bleeding when the end stabs me, it can be sharp so take care.
Used to be good, now just RUBBISH! – I've been using Piksters brushes for about 4 years. While now and then I tried cheaper brands, they proved to be inferior and I'd go back to Piksters. However, over the last few months the Piksters I bought have such weak/brittle wires they are breaking after only 2 or 3 uses, always inconveniently inside my mouth. Before, the wire was excellent,… Read more
it was the brush that would wear out first. They used to last me a week or so, now only a day or 2 at the most. No difference now to the cheaper brands I tried. Don't waste your money or believe that paying more will give you a better product, it used to but won't anymore. I see other people are experiencing the same problem, and I'm lucky my mouth hasn't been damaged, reading other reviews. What on earth are Erskine doing?
As an alternative, I tried Aldi's Dentitex Perio Soft Picks - they are made from rubber, so are wire and brush free, and they are working well.
Wire tip pierced gum in back teeth – I also had trouble with these. I now only use them for my front teeth. When I bent it to do the back teeth I ended up piercing my gum which led to an infection. It took at least a month before it had fully healed and I could even brush this area without pain. I did try the back teeth again after this but very shortly realized that it was not worth… Read more
the trouble and potential injury. After reading the reviews I checked my Piksters and saw that yes, wire does protrude at the tip.
Defective brushes – The metal wire within the brushes protrudes from the end and causes pricking and bleeding from the gums. This is a product which I have used for a number of years, but this is the first time that this has happened.
Not as good as they used to be – These used to be great but now for some reason they say new and improved on the top right hand corner but this is far from the truth. They are rubbish now the end tip is wire with no covering they never were sharp but now are. They used to last up to a week but now only last one day very disappointed at the quality now compared to what they used to be. Surely they couldn't of thought no one would notice wont be buying them anymore.
Warning – This product was recommended by a dentist. There should be a strong warning on the product literature. The wire brushes easily snap off after only about three uses. When I got one lodged in between my molars I had to extract it with tweezers. I re-read the product information and it says: "CAUTION, If the brush head breaks and is lodged… Read more
between your teeth ... do not look upward into a mirror or breathe in, or aspirate the broken piece. In the unlikely event you swallow a brush head either contact your doctor or the following numbers (business hours AEST or after hours)". I am also concerned about scratching my veneers. I immediately threw out the remaining bushes and I will never use them again. I feel this product should be investigated as I do not think it is safe.
Periodontal advice is useful if not essential ! – I have been using piksters for a year or so following advice from my dentist to supplement brushing. I agree with other opinion writers that the spines of these picksters seem to crumple more readily than used to be the case but this problem can be minimised if the right tooth-gap size pickster is chosen. My experience has been that use of a mix… Read more
of at least 3 sizes is necessary. This avoids tearing the gums and also messing up the pikster in a bid to extract it from too-tight a gap. They can become very expensive if a one-size-fits-all approach is adopted. Buying from discount pharmacies (or Ebay) is also a must for making piksters just a bit more affordable.
They used to be great.........now?..........not so – I have been using Piksters for a few years now but I have noticed lately that the quality has deteriorated. Whereby one Piksters would last me for ten flosses, I'm now lucky if I can get three flosses out of them. I have noticed that the wire is much weaker and the "brush" is coarser and thinner. I can understand that Erskine are probably just… Read more
trying to cut costs, but if that leads to producing an inferior product, then they need to go back to the drawing board.
I believe the product should be discounted as it is now highly overpriced.
Better than toothpicks, easier thnan flossing, but delicate – I've sworn by these for a out the past 4 years, since my periodondist got me started with them. I always have them with me, at work, when i go out to dinner, etc. However, with the last batch i bought, the product seems to have changed. The wire and the bristles aren't stiff enough, bend too easily. This was always a problem, but is worse now.… Read more
Still, other similar brands are even more expensive. I may go back to my old floss "swords". If you do try Picksters, be sure to get a few sizes. The difference in the space between various teeth is more than you realize.
