6 month in I cant reccomend it – I've had an XLS900 28 for 6 months now and cant say I am impressed. The pool floor is continuosly covered with calcium scale from the cell. My water hardness reading has previuolsy always sat quite stable but since this chlorinator has been fitted those leves been reducing month by month to the point where I now need to add water hardener to replace the ammount of calcium this cell hs removed. The huge volume of the calcium flakes in the pool also requires more frequent filter back washes after they have been picked up by the cleaner pushing up my water and chemical bills. I'm also about to remove and clean the " self cleaning" cell for the third time in the 6 months since its been fitted. The cell housing is a terrible design and very difficult to remove the chlorinator element. The chlorinator does generally manage to keep the pool chlorinated Ok other then from time to time it just seems to not bother producing chlorine and my levels drop requiring me to add liquid chlorine. This doesn't happened only in the hot summer months, Ive had it happen during spring as well. The unit I have should be oversized for my pool but I serioulsy doubt it produces chlorine at anywhere near the name plate capacity. In colder weather ( I live in Qld and ist not that cold) it will say it has low salt when it doesn't, if you have one don't add salt based on the low salt light, get your water tested first.

I have called pool controls once to try andf get some help , I must say the experience was less than satisfactory, if you ask them a question they give you one simple answer "like turn it up to 100%" if you ask more questions to try and understand what's going on then they get cranky and hang up on you, that's not what I call customer service.

I do like having the low salt level but quite frankly this chlorinator requires a lot of monitoring and pool maintenance much more than you would expect from a salt water chlorinator and the back up service is close to non existant. I couldnt recommend it.

All show and no go – If I could rate lower than a 1 I would, doesn't produce anywhere near enough chlorine for the harsh Perth summer.

An Australian Classic. This is absolutely the best chlorinator I've ever had – This is truly set and forget. The design is very good and the unit rugged. The menu system is easy to use. Being salt chlorination, my pool running cost is low, compared with adding chlorine every week; in the long term it will save you $$$. This product should be up there with the Australia's renowned and best inventions like Wifi, the Cochlear implant, the black box and of course the the Hills Hoist! I would 100% recommend this to any one with a pool.

Amazing, as close to freshwater as you can get – We have had this chlorinator for 9 months now and couldn't be happier. You can barely taste the salt in the pool (compared to other "normal" salt chlorinators that work at around 4000ppm, which you can taste), we saved money on adding salt to the pool on start up and the chlorinator is easy to use. We have the 28g version and running it for 8 hours a day keeps the chlorine levels to about 3ppm in a 40,000L pool.
