not worth the trouble – itech world redback 3.5 generator, is disappointing, it cant run any more then my old 2.2 Honda. And when doing that it is very noisy it can only run a fan heater plus a 60 watt battery charger., not worth buying. Show details
Itechworld failure – Purchased RB2 in May 2021 as an “on-demand” generator for when we decide to go away off grid and for any emergency power situations at home. I e had a number of Honda and Yamaha generators over the years, and know very well the need to start these types of units on a regular basis, check oil, drain fuel, etc. The generator has been in storage but… Read more
always started at least 6 monthly with new fuel, and checked for power generation both 12 and 240v. Before last month, maximum running time was less than an hour, but always performed as it should. When it was taken on its first real road trip, it started and operated exactly as was expected…. For 4 hours! Then it would not provide any power to run our 240v gear. Engine was still ticking over cleanly, just no output. Itechworld now tell me that because I didn’t have it serviced regularly., the warranty does not cover the repairs (faulty inverter apparently) and that I am to meet the cost of $290 which they are apparently discounting for me. I have explained to them the servicing that I did and that a failure of the inverter would not have been effected by any servicing or non-servicing. Consumer Protection complaint is my next step. For a company that I have always promoted verbally and on various digital platforms, they have really dropped the ball and service levels.
Redback 5kva – Haven’t started it for three years so obviously battery flat. Drained fuel and refilled with fresh fuel. Still won’t start. Oil all good. Tried to check spark plug. Impossible to get spark plug out with normal spark plug Spanner so decided to try taking side off to access better. This is an almost impossible task. It may be going to the tip. Show details
Great little generator – Works first time fits in motorhome locker. Could be a bit quiter no petrol smell when travelling Show details
It’s a boat anchor. Just drain the oil and fuel out first – Had the rb2 for 3 years. Been really good until last trip where it would cut out under load. Took into Itechworld they said we have to service it first. Ok $149 for service. 2 weeks later it’s serviced but you need to spend another $945 to get it fixed. Really ain’t going to happen. Think I’ll go and buy a honda Show details
Redback Special Price – I purchased this Redback RB2 after back in April 2021...$400 off original price. Did all necessary pre start checks and stuck to correct break in procedure, always starts first or second pull. I start the generator regularly adding 50% to 70% load, I think the more you use the generator the better it runs, it has not really missed a beat. Show details · 3
Redback RB2 Generator - total crap – Right from the start, My Redback RB2 didn't work right. It ran for less than 1 hour before dying - it would start, run rough and then stop when I plugged my fridge in. I had to send it back to iTechworld for repairs which took two weeks - two weeks in which I needed a generator so I had to suffer without. When I emptied the oil to send the… Read more
generator back, it was black and gucky - after less than 1 hour of run time. I only got updates from iTechworld on the progress of the repairs when I asked and they never told me what was wrong with it. My machine does not run quietly. I know this because maybe 3 or 4 times it has run quietly, like iTechworld advertises it should. All the other dozens of times I've used it, it runs loudly - you would have to shout to have a conversation near it. You need to build a dirt-free platform for the thing (I'm on a farm so not a lot of paving around) because the air intake is apparently through the bottom of the machine. I would not take this thing camping because where do you find paving when you're camping and who wants to drag along bricks or a big board? I have been using this machine for only about 8 months and now it has started leaking fuel. I contacted iTechworld via email and never heard back from them. Plus, the pull cord is frayed because it takes so many pulls to start the RB2 - I'm a 57 year old woman so pulling too hard isn't the problem, it's the number of pulls required. I have other pull-start motors that take only 1 or 2 pulls. This generator usually takes 5 or 6 pulls and sometimes more. Very rarely does it take two or one pull to start. The oil gucks up really quickly. The manual says to change the oil once a month which is ridiculous advice - an oil change should be by length of time the engine has run (generally 25 hours of operation for small engines between oil changes). Do they really want me to change the oil if I've only used the machine for one hour in a month? After I got the generator back from the first major fault, it did run the fridge OK. For this second major fault, rather than spend more money with iTechworld, I've taken the Redback RB2 to a local small engine repair place. This is a really, really bad machine. I'm so sorry I bought it. It is a waste of money and now I have to spend more money to have it fixed and I can't afford to buy a new generator. This is the second major repair needed on this thing in it's first 8 months of use. I doubt it will last more than 2 years before completely dying. There is a spark catcher on the outlet side of the machine and the screws are on so tight that when I tried to take the inhibitor off to clean it like the manual suggests, the screw heads stripped and now I can't get it off at all. These are small screws so why they were put on so tightly I don't know. This is not the first product I've bought from iTechworld that has failed. But it will be the last because I will never buy anything from them again. I was going to try their batteries, but not now. Do not buy a Redback RB2 generator from iTechworld if you are looking for a reliable generator to use at home or camping. Update: now the machine is dead. It lasted less than a year. I won't bother taking it in for repairs as it's a Chinese engine and they are crap and any repair wouldn't last anyways. Plus it's a 3 hour round trip for me to get to iTechworld. And because I had the machine repaired elsewhere - they had to put on a new petrol on/off switch which is non-standard as they couldn't get any original parts for this Chinese machine - I'm sure iTechworld will just say my warranty is void. The replacement of the petrol switch made the machine run better and it worked for a while and then the whole engine just died. It had nothing to do with the new petrol switch. DO NOT BUY AN RB2 GENERATOR. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM iTechworld. They have poor quality products and offer poor service.
