Rinnai PEPH Series

A weak heater – We have a large room to heat and thought this would help, but it is weak and not efficient. Show details
When it does work, it is noisy and smelly – Purchased the Rinnai PEPH15PEW for our sons room, he’s now 11 months old. It wasn’t used for the 5 months as it was heading into summer. The instructions were easy enough to use, however, we did note that it wouldn’t switch on when it was meant to, ie, set the heater to switch on at 16 degrees, however, it wouldn’t switch on until it got down to 9… Read more
or 10 degrees. For the last month, we’ve used it twice. On both occasions, it has emitted a smell akin to wet carpet. Not sure where it comes from as it sits on its wheels on timber flooring. Given the smell, we have decided to get rid of it, as we don’t want our son inhaling that. Waste of money. And considering the other reviews, tipping we should never have purchased it.
Hi AndrewKate,
We have sent a private message to discuss the matter further.
Thanks, Rinnai Australia
Not what I expected from the name – I bought this heater to warm a largish bedroom, and it does that, but the quality was a little disappointing from a well-known name like Rinnai. I know it's at the cheap end of the scale (and is probably a generic Chinese product stamped with the brand name) but I'd at least expect all four castors to touch the floor - they do not, and it rocks… Read more
when moved. I intend to mount it on the wall so this isn't that big a problem in itself, just an indication of the indifferent level of quality.
The control panel is simple to operate except for the 'timer'; a scale of 24 bars which can either be 'on' or 'off' according to ones wishes. I set them but I may have gotten something wrong as the heater didn't come on as expected the following day, so I turned the feature off altogether. Instructions for operation are a bit vague but I'm happy to control the unit manually anyway.
Note that the main power switch turns everything off and returns the unit to factory defaults - all your settings are lost unless you leave it in 'standby' mode.
Having said all that, I switch it on and it warms the room, and that's what I wanted.

Gets noisy over time – I bought this heater because it had the features (silent, time, thermostat) that I wanted at a very reasonable price. For the first winter it didn't miss a beat (5 stars). However, by the second and third winters, it was too noisy (loud clicks and bangs whilst heating up and cooling down; 0 stars) to sleep through. After doing some research… Read more
online, it seems to be a pretty common fault. Contacted Rinnai and they advised me to take it back to the Retailer for an exchange. After a bit of mucking around, I managed to get a refund at TGG. I have since bought a Noirot. It's more than I wanted to spend but it's one of those times that you get what you pay for,

It is awesome – We found it is more suitable for room. It can be on wall so good to save space . It also has wheels on bottom then can be removable. Comparing with fan , it's very quiet and won't feel dry. And it has time manage to turn on or off
Noisy as many had experienced – Bought one to use in bedroom sleeping with baby, since it's heavily advertised as silent operation. 2 weeks into use and clicking noise starts, it developed into more frequent rattle, squeaking and buzzing noise, intermittent but few times each hour when turned on. Took back to the good guys and was treated rudely with same excuse that all of… Read more
them make such noises, they also tested for three days and said it was dead silent. False advertising and misleading, video provided is taken when unit was in operation in daytime and in a room with 4 computers, dead silent?

Please note the unit is on for a few hours b4 I took video and the red light means it was in operation.
Manual, packaging have no mention of expect noises that could disrupts sleep, instead, they both have in big print out of the main features as "silent operation"
