Really happy with this, it's powerful enough to do a 600sqm block with heaps of edging and large garden beds to trim. I just switched over to battery after using a powerful Echo petrol snipper, and while the Ryobi isn't a big monster like the Echo, it more than does the job. I get a full hour as long as you stay on the low setting rather than high, which is totally fine to work with. It's SO much easier just switching it on instead of getting petrol in the can, filling the machine and worrying about spillage. You can just grab it anytime and do a quick 10 minute trim rather than cranking up the petrol. Line system easy and feeds out well, no snaps.
I was reluctant to make the switch from petrol and wasn't sure after reading the reviews, but have been very pleasantly surprised at how good it is.
Follow-up · It's very light so comfortable to use, obviously there's more weight on the battery end but it's still light. Storage is easy, I keep the battery and skin indoors in the laundry rather than the shed to keep any moisture from getting into the electrics. After the trimmer line that came with the purchase ran out I replaced it with a good quality 2.4mm line and it works even better.

Ok so I don’t want to be negative about this because it is actually an ok little machine IF you’re on a 500-600 or less m2 block. I have a heap of Ryobi gear so I love the stuff… But, anything over 500-600 you’re wasting your money and time I feel. But I read some of the reviews who indicated this was acceptable on an acre, I’m on a half with fruit trees, it is not adequate for that. So I feel that needs to be noted.
The battery life states it will work for up to 20 mins on high, it doesn’t. I’ve got 3 batteries, they were charged, I’ve gone through the 3 of them TWICE. And they’re currently back on the charger as I write this review.
I feel it’s fair to state with the start of Spring and my struggle to get the Sthil started meant the edges and fruit trees were a bit unruly, but the batteries are back on the charger for round three and I’ve not finished. I would have been done with the petrol within 30-60 mins. Instead it’s actually taken me a whole day and I’m not actually done because the line got stuck inside it and that was an effort to get it out.
So I’m a woman who hates snipping, we have a Sthil that is petrol, but I struggle to start it. So I thought ok I’m going battery. To buy the equivalent of that Sthil in battery was $1399 so I get that for the price difference to $269 you’re going to get a different caliber of machine.
If I could return this at this stage? I would.
Positives: 1. The weight is actually pretty good 2. Super easy to assemble 3. Bumper feed is great, I go through a lot of line and haven’t had to refeed it yet (see below for that update) 4. Easy for a woman to use 5. Not overly loud but it’s a whipper snipper noise is unavoidable & it frustrates me when people complain about this, wear ear muffs.
Negatives: 1. Battery life is not what I feel was advertised 2. Once the battery starts to go flat it literally doesn’t cut the grass even though it’s spinning 3. The trimmer line got stuck inside the head, it’s taken me quite some time to get the line out of one side. I initially thought it was empty but I couldn’t see through the hole from one point to the next. Tweezers and a cooking utensil managed to get it out. This should be a quick sort in my opinion. Based on the head , it’s a no from me this should have been an hour job and it’s taken a day.
Would I buy another one? Currently no on half an acre. If I was on a residential block? Maybe. I am very surprised at how good the reviews are.
Now I’m off to see if my batteries have recharged for the third time lol and to see if I can start my petrol trimmer.
