Great mower – Great mowers, people who give them bad reviews don’t know how to use them or didn’t research them before buying one. They are not designed for long messy grass. They are designed for people who mow regularly and like to keep their lawn thick and short. You need to check the blades before or after each use to keep them correctly adjusted. Show details
Not the worst product but the worst service – Used for 15 minutes. cut ok once adjusted few times. Then stopped. Ryobi service did not want to know about it as I did not keep my receipt. Clearly shows on mower how old it is but they didn't care. Pulled it apart and found the tiniest electric motor. Probably out of a drill and completely inadequate to turn this blade. Not surprised it burnt… Read more
out. It will be my pleasure now to throw this in the bin and then dispose of the battery and charger as I don't think ryobi is the battery platform for me.
Rubbish. Don’t waste your time or money – It cuts ok, but the catcher is seriously a joke , it keeps falling off as it is so poorly designed. It’s a good idea poorly executed. Don’t waste your money or time and look elsewhere. Show details
It OK, but it stopped working in the middle of second use – I only have 25m2 of lawn to cut so this seemed like an ideal mower for that. The first cut I did on my wintergreen lawn worked out well. A good trim without over cutting. However, I was just doing my second mow before doing the end of winter weed n feed and it cut out half way through and just makes a whirring noise despite the blades being… Read more
able to freely spin.
I wouldn't recommend it for that reason. If it breaks down so easily, it shouldn't be up for sale.
Good Cylinder Mower, But Not Without Issues – Overall, I like this mower. It's convenient, quiet, light and easy to push. I believe that most of the issues are because it it battery powered - - It is not self propelled like most cylinder mowers, I assume this is because it would adversely affect the battery life. Luckily, it isn't very heavy to push around. - It has a very narrow cutting… Read more
width. Again, probably because a bigger blade would require a bigger motor and corresponding decrease in battery life. The small cutting width also means that it takes longer to mow my lawn. - Its light weight is a plus, but takes away one of the things that a (proper) cylinder mower achieves - it flattens the ground as it is cutting the grass because of its weight.
There is also a bit of a design flaw unrelated to being battery powered - the adjusting bolts to tighten the blade hang below the cutting blade. This means that at its lowest cutting height the bolts drag through the newly mowed grass and tear it up. Some might suggest that I could increase the cutting height, but that is not what cylinder mowers are for - they are for low cut, well maintained lawns.
This cannot replace a proper, heavy, petrol powered cylinder mower if you want a perfect lawn, but it can probably replace a typical rotary mower in a small to average sized block if you want to mow to a 'normal' height
Light and easy – It’s really light so easy to move around and fit into tight places. We have buffalo lawn and it runs over it nicely and with plenty of battery power left. Has some trouble with those pesky weeds (paspalum) due to it being easy to slide through the blades. I don’t use the catcher and depending on the height of the cut it can actually be a nuisance to have attached. Show details
Gives a good, even cut on the lawn – Ryobi's 18V ONE+ 35cm Cylinder Mower, model ORM1800, produces a nice, clean cut -- unlike single blade rotary mowers. I have just bought and used this, and I am happy. (A tip with single-blade rotary mowers is that, if you want an OK cut, you need to sharpen the blade so that it is almost as sharp as a CARVING KNIFE. The way they come from the… Read more
factory they are too blunt.) I have seen some rubbish reviews of this Ryobi cylinder mower on YouTube where the owners said they were not happy. Those lawns had not been watered or fertilized well and looked very scraggly to begin with -- so nothing would give a great cut. Their old mowers certainly had not done a good job. In addition, they had cut the grass way too high. If you want a lawn that looks like green velvet, you need a fine-leaf grass, such as Wintergreen Couch, and a cylinder mower. That's how bowling greens and golf courses are maintained. This mower with five blades is a small version of a professional mower, which may have 10 to 12 blades, but it does the job well and is suited to small lawns. I cut using the lowest setting, which looks good. IRRITATING FEATURES: The start button is a bit of plastic that dangles on a thin piece of string. It is amazingly inconvenient. I don't understand why Ryobi did not use the same start button that is integrated into the handle, as on their other mowers. Second: The flimsy basket-style grass catcher is a piece of rubbish that is not convenient to clip on and off as needed. My 10-year-old push mower has a solid plastic grass catcher which has stood the test of time and is far more practical to use. These are the two reasons I have taken one star off this review.
Great mower for small lawns – Very quiet excellent mower for small lawns. Works very well. You must very carefully adjust the blades so they slice A4 paper. If you aren’t willing to carefully adjust blades don’t buy this mower. If you are willing to put in that tiny bit of effort you will be rewarded with a quiet, efficient and easy to use mower Show details
