Frustrating fridge and it has finally beaten me! – Had the fridge around 12 years. Worked perfectly for first 5 years or so, then started to have issues with fridge fan freezing over (common issue with these as others have stated). Started out having to defrost the fan about every 5-6 months and got progressively worse. Just had to do it again today and finally sick of it and getting a new fridge… Read more

as we speak. This has been an incredibly frustrating fridge because apart from this persistent and recurrent issue the fridge is still in good working order but doesn't seem worth persisting with any longer. Opting for a different brand this time as dont want to risk that Samsung may still not have fixed the issue (given this fridge was out in the market for several years with the issue persisting).

After seven years , much like the other reviewers, the back panel and vents iced up, leaving the top portion of the fridge warm and the bottom frozen. Almost as if the fridge was designed to fail at a point in time. So I defrosted it for three days, cleaned it top to bottom and it looked brand new. But the back panel was still iced and wouldn’t… Read more

defrost ,even using a hair dryer. Called a Samsung approved repairer to have a look at the issue and they ordered the new panel that comes with a new motor for the fan. I even purchased a new crisper lid,$600 out of pocket, but good as new.

NOPE….. It took three weeks for the icing issue and lack of cold air moving to the top of the fridge , to occur again.

I will never , ever buy another Samsung refrigerator.

Okay after 10? years – Bought new from David Jones in mid 2011?? Display went blank by Dec 2011. Fixed under warranty after some rudeness from contractor who wanted to replace the while fridge! After complaining (mainly due to contractor's rudeness - they googled my place and were arguing the driveway was too steep to drive up even though DJ's had no trouble delivering… Read more

the thing, the display was fixed without problem. Has run without fault since then. Think display may be a common problem and it is probably a bit over cooked - what's to display really? Cannot seem to find the registration details on Samsung site now - I was wondering how old it actually is and thinking of upgrading sometime. Otherwise cost has been $1500? over nearly 10 years = $150 per year.

Buy again?? Samsung is still a brand I consider and I cannot really complain about the ownership over this period of time. Model is to my liking: easy to use; I got used to the 2 door arrangement; I took out the ice cube contraption as it is a waste of space; looks quite smart in silver; and it is mainly something I don't think twice about which in itself means a lot to me.

Not thinking about says a lot and earns it 5 stars.

Died early and was repaired – We bought this about 5 years ago. It began freezing up within a year and the ice was hitting the fan and eventually wasn't cooling anything. We gave it a good defrost but it only lasted another few weeks before it did the same thing. assembly. It hasn't missed a beat since. I asked the serviceman about it as it seemed strange that he had the correct part with him. He said that it was a very common failure and the new part should last many more years. I actually quite like this unit as our bread doesn't end up burnt and it cools stuff very rapidly when you turn on the power cool function after filling the fridge after a big shop.

Edit: It's now Feb 2019 and it's started to fail in the exact same manner . The serviceman was correct it did last many more years but not enough IMHO . 8 years old and out of Warranty . I won't be getting it repaired nor will I be buying another Samsung . My old whirlpool freezer and fridge were still working after 25 years , I should of hung onto them .

Nearly 6 Years and going good, but it started making a buzzing whirling noise so – This fridge has been reliable to us for almost 6 years now, but for the past couple of days has made a periodic noise, whenever we opened the fridge door the noise would stop, close it and in a short while the noise was back again, it got so bad that we just had to do something about it, so I decided to check the compressor by moving the… Read more

refrigerator away from the wall, I then removed the bottom back cover to check if the noise was from the compressor, thankfully no noise was coming from the compressor, the sound was coming from the Fridge section, so we opened the door to the Fridge section once again to make sure, I was now pretty certain the noise came from somewhere behind the plastic column where the lights were housed, my wife and I unloaded the fridge section and all the shelves and drawers (thankfully we have a spare fridge in the garage) we then unplugged the refrigerator from the power source and I went about removing that plastic column (which is held on by 6 small Phillips head screws), I found that near the bottom of the column is a separate section where a fan is located, while my wife held open the bottom plastic section for me like a hinge (separate from the light section), I laid down on my back to have a look up under & behind the plastic cover and I saw that ice had formed around the fan and was probably pushing against it causing it to make the noise, after removing all the ice that had formed around it by carefully cracking the formed ice with the handle of my large screwdriver, it eventually all chipped and crumbled away.

That done and not really knowing what else we could do, I then screwed it all back together securely with the screws hoping that that had solved the problem, we then plugged power to the fridge back in and ... viola!, it now sounds and works as good as it always has.

This is now the next day (approx 18 hours later) and so far no annoying noise has returned, the temperature is where it needs to be and has always been.

Why the ice even formed in that area? I don't know, I'm not a refrigeration guy and we certainly hope this doesn't happen again in the near future, we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed as we do like the fridge and it fits our space perfectly and the layout and looks of the fridge (we think) is quite good.

I hope that this info helps someone out there who may be experiencing the same problem we just had, but as with anything, if you are in any way unsure of the procedure that we just did, I strongly recommend that you do not do it, but instead seek a professional service technician or Samsung rep for advice.

Great Fridge, Nice Modern Minamalist Design – This fridge was bought a few years ago and is still going strong like a champ. Great control of the temperature for both the freezer and fridge compartments, all at the touch of a button at the very front. Very attractive fridge and is way more power efficient than my old fridge. 5 STARS!  Show details

Never again. Complete rubbish – Since buying new for well over $1.5k it's had to be fixed/fan replaced 3 times (2013, 2015, 2017) and now it's gone again. Defrost, ice buildup the same as all the other reviews. I've now spent well over $600 fixing this thing since new, I will never buy a samsung fridge again. Show details

Working fine – Man advertised for free as freezer won’t get cold, so he bought a new fridge/freezer. He said technician quoted $350 to fix. I took it home plugged it in and fridge works but freezer stayed warm on 27 degrees. So I took panel off back and noticed that the spiral like Finn’s were covered in fluff, so hooked up compressor and blew all the fluff off… Read more

Finn’s. Straight away freezer started dropping in temperature. Filled a couple of bottles with water and put 2 in freezer and 2 in fridge, within half hour the bottles in freezer were already freezing and bottles in fridge were getting cold. Been working fine for the last 2 weeks since I got it. So I got myself very nice new looking fridge/freezer for free. Maybe people having cooling trouble could check the Finn’s . It’s not the motor or the fan, but circles of spiral Finn’s like a radiator, or maybe it is classed as a radiator.

Rubbish – Have had a technician in twice this week. Fridge & Freezer not cooling. When the technician arrived unit was cooling. Refilled the unit and it happened AGAIN! NO WARNING AT ALL. Twice now we've woken to warm fridge/freezer. We went through all this 5 months ago. Off to get a new unit now. So much money wasted on spoiled food and technician call out fees. Definately will NOT be bringing a Samsung home again. Show details

Do not purchase – I purchased this fridge second hand at a bargain price. It was good for a couple months, then the motor decided to freeze up and stop working ( fridge side only ) I had to defrost for a few days and start it up again. I had to do that every 3-4 weeks until I'd had enough and got rid of it. It has been discontinued for a reason. Please do not even buy second hand. Samsung's reputation – After less than 5 years, lost cooling in fridge side only. Repairman told me that the icing up referred to in previous reviews above was the likely problem, would cost $400 for parts and that I should buy a new fridge. salesman told me that the problem with Samsung was the ridiculous delays in them paying technicians who did their repairs under warranty and that he had a similar issue where it took 11 months for Samsung to repay him for a replacement fridge for a faulty item returned under warranty (not this fridge apparently). I have bought a new fridge and have heeded all advice. Perhaps in the city, it might be easier, but in country Queensland, it's not worth the risk.

The design of this fridge is flawed – After a year the fridge fan started making noises. Ice had built-up and was rubbing on the fan. Pulled it apart and found the heating coil for defrosting does not cover the whole of cooling unit and therefore ice builds up. Have to open cover and defrost every 3-5 months when the fan stops. It's a real "lemon" Didn't think samsung could produce such poorly designed products, but they do.

Samsung are creating mountains of landfill waste - an environmental disaster. I will not buy Samsung again. When it gets put out for the next trash collection i will write a review and stick it very firmly on the door, for all to see. Update 06Jan2016: a technician has looked at it today and confirmed a design fault - meaning - it is not equipped to cope with AU conditions. He will fit a new defrost element plus a helper adaption (that samsung make!) and that 'should' have been fitted at first fix. $500 later and another load of groceries ruined. The power surges from this faulty fridge has also cost me 2 microwaves.

Samsung fridge – Samsung Refrigerator SRS599HNW, The Refrigerator is 5.6 years old and now frosting up behind the veggie crisper. No cold air getting to the top of fridge. Longevity – Apart from being noisy, it ran well. UNTIL 5.5 yrs old, developed large gas leak enough to compromise it completely. Samsungs response, after 5 days of phoning, emailing and trying their chat line, "it's out of Warranty" The Samsungs preferred repairer no longer repairs their fridges. My suggestion is go with an Australian made fridge !

Bah humbug Samsung – Bought this 5 years and 3 months ago. Served us well in that time. But in the last 2-3 months it has slowly failed with the exact same frost/ice at the bottom freezing vegetables, and barely cool at the top. Clearly a design flaw (or deliberate?). Very disappointed – Same problem as previous posters. Back wall of fridge iced up after 4 years. Luckily we had extended warranty which covered the repair. Now a few months later the Power Freeze function was beeping for 3 days before fridge died.
