Wasted our $$. This is supposed to be the quietest range hood but it is one of the worst purchases we made in our new build as it sounds like a jet plane. It usually needs to be on 2-5 for a decent extraction and at that level you can't speak to anyone whilst cooking. Even 1 is not whisper quiet as it says it should be. It is advertised as: Level 1-3 (Heavy Cooking): Silent like the airflow from a laptop/computer fan. Level 4-5 (Boost Mode): Quiet hiss of airflow similar to a multisplit aircon unit, without fan or motor noise. We were not told at point of sale at Harvey Norman, that the motor outside needed to be at least 5 meters away from the extraction point. I was also told on the phone that the kink in the tubing would make it louder, despite all of their diagrams having at least 2 kinks from extraction to outside motor as cab be seen in their attached diagram. The motor is noisy outside so wherever it is positioned it will be noisy for the neighbours or above bedrooms if put on the roof. A Schweigen technician looked at this and adjusted the tubing but it didn't make a difference. He said it was installed correctly by the builder and it would cost another $4,000 plus the cost of a colour bond box fixed to the outside of the house, to reduce the noise, and it would still be noisy. Could have bought a much cheaper unit for the same result but was looking forward to an upmarket, effective product. I would not recommend unless you can position on a roof well away from the kitchen and bedrooms and neighbours, but even then no guarantees as the motor is very noisy. I can't believe it has won so many awards.

Purchased in at Harvey Norman Retail Stores for $2,799.

Update on this. Schweigen argued that our builder installed it incorrectly as he cut the 5 metre pipe shorter, even though their technician who came to check it, cut it down even further! Funny that the technician commented it was installed correctly by our builder, and that he in fact did a good job, and that the pipe just needed a little bit more off! Contrary to what Schweigen said and he is their representative?! He changed his story with Schweigen and reported back the opposite about the quality of the installation. Buyer beware, unless you can position this rangehood 5 metres from your kitchen without cutting the pipe, then don't bother. No warranty. Not told this at point of sale. It should be advertised that the motor cannot be any where near the rangehood. Any motor would sound quiet if it were positioned that far away from the kitchen. Schweigen have dumped us but unfortunately for them I will be dumping their case in the hands of the ACCC for falsely advertising a product as silent when in fact it is not, not advertising the fact that the pipe cannot be cut and that the noisy motor must be located no less than 5 metres away from the range hood. What a joke Schweigen.
