Haven't moved into newly renovated house - paid more for the "silent" aspect of this and am disappointed – As above - haven't moved into the house yet but have turned the unit on from settings 1 to 5 - there is no way that the noise could be considered "silent". Did buy the 1600 motor, mounted it on/above a steel decking roof, ducting kept taught and no severe bends in ducting. Show details

Perfectly Quiet – I installed the WM2190SP 90 cm model with the 1600 m3h model in Sep 2020 and am delighted with it. I did a fair bit of research looking for the right range hood within my budget and narrowed down my options to 2 brands & models, this and one other recommended by Choice. As the reviews from this site stressed the importance of getting the right… Read more

installer for Schweigen to work properly, I rang Schweigen who directed me to their website for a list of recommended installers whom I proceeded to interview before deciding on the brand to buy.

INSTALLATION With advice from my chosen installer, I settled on Schweigen and opted for the model with the 1600 motor rather than the 900 motor recommended by the retailer.

The quoted installation cost for both Schweigen and my other option was exactly the same. The difference, as my chosen installer explained, was that Schweigen supplied a complete package with everything necessary for the install. My other option was cheaper, but required additional bits and pieces - which the retailer omitted to tell me - at extra cost which reduced the price differential between the 2 brands.

PERFORMANCE The install went perfectly, and the Schweigen Rangehood performs perfectly- very, very quiet and very, very powerful. We use it at Level 2 (the default) most of the time, and ramp it up to 4 or 5 for short periods when we need it for rapid boiling eg for pasta, or cooking “smelly” foods like sautéing curry pastes.

It is also so quiet that we had to learn new habits to remember to turn it off! The tip my installer gave was to hit the timer button before turning off the light when we’re done cooking. The timer switches the Rangehood off after 15 minutes which also gives enough time to clear any remaining fumes in the flue.

Before the “hit timer and turn off light” routine became habit, we kept forgetting to turn off the Rangehood as it was so quiet!

BUILD QUALITY This is a classic stainless steel wall-mounted pyramid canopy model with 2 bright LED lights towards the back, 3 stainless steel removable filters and control buttons on the front edge of the canopy. It looks good, but the build quality and finish is not as solid and refined as my old Smeg Rangehood. Compared to my old Smeg, it all feels a little light and flimsy.

The stainless steel filters are easy to remove and replace, and go straight into the dishwasher every couple of weeks for a deep clean. The controls are metal push buttons, and intuitive but a little rattle-y.

The included warranties are pretty good - 3 years on the canopy and 10 years for the motor. The lights have a lifetime warranty. Schweigen told me that if the bulbs blew out, all I need do is to contact them and they’ll send me free replacements.

CONCLUSION After nearly 1 and a half years of using this almost every day, I’m confident I made the right choice.

Would be amazing if it worked – Edit ***The problem was sorted. It took a few months and 3 repair appointments (each time they replaced the same part) until they decided to replace it with a different model of my choice. This was a good outcome but the time period for this to be rectified was ridiculous.*** I had this range hood installed in April 2021. From the very start… Read more

it tripped the power, contacted schweigen and had someone come out 1 month later for warranty, while replacing parts and tripping power multiple times the range hood was still not fixed and blew my $1000+ theatre amp. Contacted them about the amp and they didn’t want to know!

Another month later, another round of tripping power and still not fixed. Service agent going to recommend replacement. No word on compensation for damage to electronics and lost time, I’m guessing I’ll have to wait another month before they replace it....

Love it! Quiet and Powerful – Purchased this rangehood when we built our house over 7 months ago now. Has not missed a beat and is extremely quiet! We usually just run it on speed 3 and that is more than enough to extract all smoke and odour. Got it with the 1600 m3/hr motor option which is perfect!

Beware! – Be very careful. I bought the above rangehood....called one of Schweigen's recommended installers...bottom line, he came and put 4 screws in, took original flue to get an extension made.......by text said I had to pay him even more money (over 3k by this time) then by text, he cancelled it due to ill health, kept my $500 deposit....reckons he sent… Read more

the flue back 11 days ago....still don't have it.......I contacted Schweigen, they asked for an email documenting dealings with installer.....which I sent...they said they'd call me back....haven't heard anything...and the fellow I was dealing with wouldn't return my calls.....now The Good Guys are following up for me.....watch this space! If Schweigen come to the party, I will surely sing their praises....however, be careful with the installers.

Like a Jet engine in your kitchen – This is the worst product that we ever got, and all it ends up with is lots of stress. If you are on a 2 storey home and want to go with something quiet, think really really hard about it. If an installer said, you can still do it by mounting it on the side, tell them to read this review first. * Installer (Schweigen certified) - "I have… Read more

installed many of these before, and we can just put the exhaust outside on the wall. You will hear some noise, as it is wall mounted, but it will not be much." Guess what? It's too noisy.

* Builder - Middleman. Can't really do much about it. "Adjustment to house at this stage of the build to pipe it to the roof will not be cost effective for the installation of the rangehood." However, we told you this is going to be the rangehood from the start.

* Seller - They did not follow the instructions, so you cannot return it. Never mind the fact that it was installed by a Schweigen certified installer in the first place.

* Schweigen - ditto. We certify installers. If they make mistakes, it's not our issue. We have a book they should have read first that have all those instructions. Maybe you should get the installer to check with you first?

So you are basically having people on both sides of the fence telling you that you need to either live with a jet engine in your kitchen or lose this range hood and fork out and 1-2k for another range hood. At the lowest setting of 1, the noise is at 82db.

Fact, as an owner, how would I know that's going to happen? How would I know that a certified installer would do this? Is this for the installer to fix? What can Schweigen do to fix this? Nothing, it seems.

Noisy to the extreme. Like a jet engine in your kitchen

Great - finally, can cook in peace – Old rangehood used to drive me bonkers with its awful roaring fan that was useless at extracting air. Schweigen takes the fan out of the kitchen and puts it up on the roof where it belongs (and where you don't have to listen to it). It sucks away all cooking fumes, even with smoking hot wok cooking. Very happy with this! Looks great, clean… Read more

minimal styling, v energy efficient, easy to clean stainless filters in dishwasher, LED lights excellent for cook top. Costs more than most competitors, but well worth it because it actually works.
