Searles' Disregard for the Consumer Searles premium compost and Searles potting mix are available online at Amazon but unavailable in stores. To have to order a couple of dozen or more of compost and the same of potting mix, as well as on a regular basis is a real hassle, not only for.me but for the mail truck that delivers to the town where I… Read more

live. Highly incknvenient and costly all around.

The driver has to load every bag then unload again at the Post Office. Then the PO has to notify receiver of delivery and store for collection..Then the Post Office person has to make a number of trips to and fro.my vehicle . Not the least, breakage is a risk - and the last thing anyone would want is a torn bag and spillage.

I have checked Amazon and found that there's 'free delivery' on the first order which implies that subsequent orders will no doubt be more costly than the product itself.

Terrible marketing and it's not the buyer who benefits on what was once a reliable quality product with consideration for the consumer.

Not to mention time. Absolute inconvenience. The pleasure of buying, gone. And instead, the drama of having no choice but being forcd to order online. the waste of time, money and the inconvenience if not the element of risk makes for a very unpleasant planting experience as well.

I can't believe this. But I suppose it speaks for the company's attitude and the disregard for the consumer. I just cannot believe it. Searles was once held in highest esteem and we, the consumer were lead to believe that this was reciprocal, that we mattered, when we don't.

Searles has fallen by the way.

Sadly, profit over people never wins out in the long run. It's pretty bad when a business finds it 'easier' and more profitable to sell online, and devalue the consumer.

Disappointing quality of supposedly premium potting mix – I am deeply disappointed at the quality of this potting mix. Searles used to be a good product but now contains at least 50% uncomposted pine chunks and my plants really dislike it and fail to thrive. I have no idea why the quality has plummeted so much but suspect that the production of such large quantities has led to shortcuts and lack of care for their customers. I will not be buying it anymore. Show details

False advertising complete rip off – Very disappointed to see that they fluff the mix into the bags when they measure the 30L . I recently purchased 10x 30L bags of Searles and every single bag only filled 2.25 x 10L pots to the 10L fill line in the pots . So that's 7.75L x 10 bags which = a rip off of 77.7 L from 300L. That's absolutely huge . That's a rip off of 2.5 whole bags of… Read more

potting mix for every 10 bags you buy. Pay for 10 but only get 8. False advertising and fraudulent company.

Slowly killed all my plants – After repotting up all my plants into this soil, they gradually started to die. When I investigated, the soil had turned to sawdust and was literally just a white chalk. The soil on top was moist but an inch down was bone dry and dusty. Luckily I caught them in time and repotted them in proper soil. Don't waste your money on this rubbish.

Not Ideal – Decided to try this potting mix for a change and was sad to see my plants my indoor plants not doing so well. I think the soil was too rich without much drainage. Most of the plants I repotted with this soil wilted. My friend experienced the same thing. We are both experienced in tropical plants. I changed the soil back to my usual brand and managed to revive some, thankfully. Show details

No Gnats – I gave up buying the Osmocote potting mixes and decided to try this Searles brand. Excited to find the 60l from Bunnings Ermington. That was the last one on stock so I decided to buy it. I was so pleased that no gnats and other insects came out of the bag. Used the whole 60l bag but will definitely scout for more. Show details

Infestated with a tiny mozzie like creatures – I recently topped all my indoor and plants on the balcony (7th floor) with is. About week later the house was filled with this little flying creatures and they were biting us every where. We noticed they were all flocking around the plant pots and crawling on the soil. Then I checked the left over mix in the bag and there you go. Now I lost all my beautiful indoor pots because I can't keep the inside any more. Show details

An Exceptional Potting Mix – I guess I am a bit of a mad gardener and over the years I have certainly tried a lot of potting mixes. Being frugal I would always buy the cheaper varieties.Last year I noticed the quality of what I was buying had diminished.I potted over 100 different succulents etc..etc..thats a lot of potting mix… I have a poor sense of smell and when I tore… Read more

open each bag I would get a hit of a worrying smell,to the point it made me rethink what I was buying. I noticed the plants were not doing so well, sure they were growing but they were not looking healthy. People are not interested in buying average plants..I wasn't getting a good return,it became a waste of time and money. I swapped to Searles Premium..yes it seems expensive at $10 for a 25 litre bag. But it has a lot of positives…for a start there is no offensive worrying smell at all.. The quality of the mix is obvious with no large bits of bark in it. The advanced water crystals and coir peat blend allows the potting mix to hold the water really well.It also contains a ‘built in’ twelve months of fertiliser…an obvious money savef. The cuttings thrive creating healthy plants. Gardening will never make me rich but growing something that people want to buy is good for the soul.If you want to achieve the same I recommend Searles Premium Potting Mix.
