Quality poor – The three lugs on the ear pads that latch onto to main body are flimsy and break off. Reception when moving about loses the signal at times. Show details

What fantastic sound! – After quite a journey trying to overcome the fact that I have a hearing deficit in the high frequency range, I now have the solution. Sennheiser RS 175 radio frequency headphones allow me to watch television without missing a thing. It's such a pleasure to be able to hear all the speech clearly, as opposed to having to guess some of it (at times… Read more

much of it). I tried Bluetooth headphones and found many problems. Sometimes they would not connect to the transceiver and I would have to turn them off and on again, then hope they would make the connection which always took quite some time, plus their range is much less the the RF type. I can now walk out of the room and even outside if the need arises (ie. get wood for the fire), and still hear the TV quite clearly. These Sennheiser headphones have such clarity and definition, the experience is cinema like. Although they do not claim to have any particular frequency range, I have previously had wired Sennheisers and these sound similar. Earlier models claimed 20 - 20,000 Hz and I think these would get there too. The richness of sound is so impressive, and there's so much depth in the bottom end (20 Hz). If I can only hear to say 12 or 13 KHz, then I don't know what I'm missing out on, do I. The last time I had a hearing test, it wasn't even that good, but, the most important aspect for me is that I can now hear the TV clearly and enjoy all the shows. The volume range is enormous and would suit near deaf people I'm sure. Importantly, they do not distort if you do turn them up fairly high. Although I'm very tempted to give them 5 Stars, there is room for improvement. At this time of the year they get a little too warm on your ears because the cushions are leather (or similar) and don't breath, although they are very comfortable but bulky. The positive of this is that they are very good at "noise cancelling". If someone speaks to me when I'm watching TV, I have to take the headphones off to hear them. Previous headphones I have owned have had foam ear cushions and these stay much cooler, but have no real noise cancelling so it's a "trade off". The only other slight issue I have is really getting used to the volume controls on the right hand side earpiece. The + and - (volume up and down) buttons are close together and quite a few times I have pressed the control above these two and activated the bass boost (which is not really needed at all in my opinion). It would be much better if the 'bass boost" and "surround sound" buttons were on the left hand side thus separating the three functions. They have the following connections available, Digital Audio out, 3.5 mm. Stereo, 6.3 mm. Stereo and RCA connections so they will be adaptable to a variety of situations. In conclusion, would I recommend these to other people, definitely yes. Would I buy the same ones again, another yes. They have been a game changer for me so I'm very happy.

Theis is my third set all have faild – My third 175 headset has just failed in the same place as the previous sets the covers each side of the charge contacs brake away leaving the securing screw in place then the contacts become damaged and you need to buy another replacement I have 3 now returning them to the seller will involve sending them back to the manufaturer so no earphones… Read more

for weeks, I suggest if you decide to buy any sennheiser product with this headpiece insist that it come with a couple of setes of contact covers that should last you a year or so after that good luck.

Sennheiser rs 175 – I found the sennheiser rs 175 to be uncomfortable after 1-2 hours of wear as well as the sound breaking up if you are not in direct line with the charging tower. I called sennheiser support they told me to move the tower which did improve the sound however only slightly. Due to my need to wear glasses, this was causing the headphones to be… Read more

uncomfortable. I use 3m ear muffs while working for hours and I can no discomfort issues or issues with my glasses. There are no pads for people who wear glasses while using the headphones and sennheiser didn't to care or offer a comfortable alternative. People who wear glasses should test before buying.

Great wireless headphones for movies and music – My surround sound speakers stopped working and with a young child in the house I found them difficult to use anyway as I watch movies at night. Looking for headphones that can both provide accurate audio with deep bass and not disturb others in the house I came across these. Using them for a few months now I can definitely say they are great. No… Read more

blue tooth and they only work as wireless headphones in the same way corded ones do so can't take them outside the house. Can use 2 pairs on one receiver, great battery life and comfortable for long use. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy movies or music around the home.

These headphones should be given out with every marriage certificate – Sennheiser wireless headphones have been saving my sanity (and marriage) for around 15 years now. My first pair were RS 65's, which were luxuriously comfortable with felt earpads but used too small button style batteries in an enclosed case that were difficult to replace. With a young baby at the time though, it was the only way I could indulge… Read more

in my love of movies on a nightly basis on my projector setup and not drive my wife to contemplate murder/suicide.

These were soon joined by a pair of cheaper RS 120's to go with a tv setup for casual viewing. They were light, bright sounding and used regular AAA rechargeable batteries, but had an annoying habit of blasting you with static if they lost a signal. I couldn't count the times I'd fallen asleep in front of the tv and been woken by a savage blast of static at 3am, signaling it's time to go to bed. I wouldn't be surprised to learn my wife requested this function from Sennheiser to save her having to wake me herself.

Most recently, I purchased a pair of RS 175's to replace the now broken beyond repair RS 65's, and holy audiogasm - what a ripper they are (with some caveats).

Like most wireless headphones, the RS 175's come as a base transmitter unit and a matching headset. The base transmitter takes the audio signal from your tv or amplifier and sends it wirelessly to the headset using Sennheiser's patented "Annoying-Family-Be-Quiet" technology. The base station also serves as a battery charger for the headset, so when you rest the headset on it after use it automatically recharges the batteries to full capacity, ready for your next listening session. When you remove the headset, an indicator on the base will flash several times depending on the battery charge level, which is handy if a little archaic.

The actual headset are a solid and sturdy build, and somewhat heavy. The weight feels fine, and doesn't feel too fatiguing, but they are a little tight and may annoy you during longer listening sessions, or if you have a fat-ish head like me (I've been told I look like a cross between Wolverine and rapper Fat Joe). Thankfully, the ear cups are well padded and comfortable, but the material itself feels like it might be a little fragile, so time will tell how well they wear. The headset also has a power button, and buttons for volume up and down, bass enhancement and surround modes, with small raised indicators. They can be a little hard to discern at first, but you get used to them.

To get started, you simply plug the base station into your audio/tv gear using either a 3.5mm headphone cable, or an optical cable (both cables thankfully supplied - I used the 3.5mm cable), then plug in the power supply and you're basically ready to roll.

Up and running, just turn on your tv/amp/whatever, switch on the headphones, and enjoy!

So, you wondering how they sound? For the sake of brevity, let's say "Fantastic". Watching movies or television the sound is bold and expansive, with nice depth. Turning on the Bass mode adds extra weight and oomph, and I've chosen to leave it on. It's actually surprising how nice the added bass can be at times without muddying up the sound. The two surround modes on the other hand are mostly forgettable, and never really add separation to the stage regardless of what you listen to. At times the surround effect can actually be a backward step, with dialogue getting buried. I don't know if this would be improved by using the optical cable connection instead, so I'll have to give that a try one day, but for now the surround modes stay off.

As for the ever-important family-friendly factor? These headphones block out more external noise than my previous pairs, so I'm often not aware of someone talking to me while I have them on. That's a massive thumbs up, as long as that person isn't having a stroke and trying to get my attention, that is. If you do need to listen to someone interrupt your movie session, then a quick press of the power button on the right ear cup also acts as a mute button, with a second press to turn the mute off, which is a really nice touch. They can also run pretty loud, so you can turn them way up for action films if that's your thing and the sound will not leave you wanting. Basically, when these things go on, the family go away, and you can immerse yourself in the movie/tv/music, which is ultimately what you want from a pair of headphones, wireless or not. In this case, not having to trip over a 4 meter cable is a massive bonus. Granted, you pay a LOT more for wireless headphones, but if you buy a refurbished pair from Sennheiser's webshop like I did you can save a bundle and the quality are essentially the same, as well as warranty etc. Sure, purists will say the best sound still comes from a wired pair, but for me it's all about sanity over clarity, and that makes the RS 175's a winner.

Sennheiser don't honor warranty – I purchased these wireless headphones for watching tv. After 14 months the leatherette padding around the ear fell apart.(both sides) As these headphones were expensive to purchase and having a two year warranty i expected these to be replaced under warranty. But unfortunately this is not the case. Sennheiser Australia say they do not honor warranty on this part as it is a consumable.  Show details

recently purchased the headset to replace an older Sennheiser headset – While I really like the audio quality I have to say the headset is quite a bit heavier than my Sennheiser RS-165, and it takes getting used to. It's not a marathon watching headset that for sure just given the weight. Connection via Optical output was easy and the sound is great especially movies watched with surround-sound just wished it was not that heavy.  Show details

Gets used every single day – We use these every day and have done ever since we bought them. Quality is exceptional and they still function and look as good as the day we bought them. Set up was easy, battery life has never been a problem, range is good. Pretty much a faultless experience - good product, thanks Sennheiser!  Show details

Headset is uncomfortably heavy – Recently bought a Sennhauser RS175 wireless headphones to replace an older HDR170 set because the sound was only coming out of 1 ear piece. Although the sound out of the new set (RS175) was very good I was not impressed because the headset was quite heavy and uncomfortable and the quality of manufacture was not up to a standard one would expect for the cost.  Show details

hard to install – We bought these to use as hubby is hard of hearing . maybe our age but we could not get them to work and are back in the box .The look pretty awesome and the ear pads are well padded for comfort . yes they would be better for use in gaming not so much for the hard of hearing .  Show details

Pretty good I reckon – Using these in front of the TV work for the reason I purchased them and give a decent quality sound. I haven't experienced annoying static that other reviews I read before my purchase mentioned. The only problem I've had is if I go downstairs they tend to drop out, it's understandable but it would be nice if I could walk around the whole house and not lose reception. Don't regret the purchase though.  Show details

Excellent Headphones – Just got these headphones and they are excellent. The sound quality is amazing. No delays between TV picture and sound. If you considering to buy wireless headphones to watch TV. This is the go-to product. Easy to install and to connect to your TV. They are super comfortable. It is worth spending the bit extra to get premium quality sound and headphone.  Show details

Good for the price – Good product for that what it is design for. I have tried a couple of sets and 175 is my favorite. I was using logitech g933 before, I know it's more likely for gamers but a lot of settings for videos too. Broke within first week – Earlier models are much better the build quality is quite poor as mine stopped working after one week and the audio is not of a high standard as expected. Notes that the operating green light kept going out permanently meaning loss or no power. Recommend other cheaper units could do similar job.  Show details

Works well – The range on the unit is indeed about 100m. The signal will deteriorate where physical objects( like buildings) block line of sight. The sound is very good quality( when within a reasonable distance of transmitter). Surround sound feature is good. The docking station can be a bit fiddly when lining up the metal components for charging. THe sound is excellent tho.  Show details

Awesome Headphones – I love this system! The wireless connection is faultless and you can walk between floors and the headphones rarely miss a beat. They do struggle if I venture under the house, but that is two floors below where the transmitter is. which happens to be next to the main bedroom. They do the job brilliantly and often if I am home alone I will put the headphones on instead of listening to the shows through the 7 speaker Sony surround sound system. Even the base is meaty which is saying something considering it is coming from headphones. We bought a second pair of headphones and I did consider buying the 4 headphone set system, but only once in three years has there been a situation where more than two sets of headphones would have been handy.

Excellent Quality as expected – I have had these now for about 4 months. I bought them to replace a really old pair of Sennheisers. I bought a second headset so that 2 people can listen but have separate volumes, works well. The only sight issue… Read more

Great sound, good price – Very happy with these. Now I can listen to movies without disturbing the family. Very comfy headphones, cuts the outside noise, and I like the sound quality and balance. The charger stand is handy and looks neat. The little volume and bass/treble buttons on the right headphone take a little while to get used to, but become second nature quickly. Make sure you connect with an optical cable to get the best sound.  Show details

Superb sound without disturbing the family – We were looking at a new surround sound system or a sound bar for the media room. fantastic. Pop the kids in bed, pop headphones on and away you go. Surround sound with loads of base and crisp dialect. It's not a cheap set up when you get the extra headset, but well worth it.

good range and sounds. The problem I have had just after the warranty period expired, the plastic film which covers the foam ear pads started to disintegrate on one side. I thought as they were quite expensive the company would have replaced the ear pads as a gesture of good will. NO I have to pay for the replacement! Bit disappointing

Not as Exceptional as Sennheiser think – The ear pads as supplied with the RS 175 Wireless Sennheiser headphones are way too shallow - my ears are pressed against the inside hard surface in normal wearing. It results in quite painful ears after only about a half hour of use. I now wear a woolen head cap and place the earphones over the cap - looks silly and makes my head hot, but it… Read more

stops the pain from the hard back surface my ears press against. It only needs ear pads that are thicker by a few millimeters (about half a centimetre) to fix the problem. I’m hoping velour ear pads eliminate the pain. I'll try them ($55 - for 2 pairs) which need to be purchased separately.

http://service.sennheiser.com.au/consumer/products/wireless-headphones/rs-160/ear-pads-1-pair---black-534469.html - article number 534469

In the meantime, I have now gone back to my brilliant Bowers Wilkins on ear phones - so much more comfortable. Such beautiful sound. So nearly $1000 of Sennhieser phones (2 pairs) have been relegated to the junk cupboard.

Great range (sound AND distance from the cradle) – I was upgrading from the Sennheiser RS120 wireless headphones and did a little research online. There were quite a few reviews around on the RS170 that weren't that favourable but the new RS175's were impressing people overseas so I bit the bullet and found a decent online price in Australia. Retail they were selling for around $500 but I found… Read more ·  1

some online for $350 from an Australian seller (no need for Aussie adapter for UK/US plug)

They connect to the TV via optical audio cable or 3.5mm stereo. I have an optical audio splitter from the TV meaning I can have both my surround sound and headphones connected without having to switch between the two. The stereo 3.5mm plug is great for connecting an audio device such as a phone giving you the freedom to listen without being wired to your device.

The range on this set is what impressed me. My old RS120's used to hiss if you got more than 15 feet away from the cradle. The RS175 is crystal clear even from the far end of my backyard with a wall in-between.

There are a few modes on these headphones which can be controlled from the headset. Bass boost deepens the bass and these headphones do bass well. I usually have this turned on for watching HD TV.

The surround sound modes are OFF/LOW/HIGH and I usually listen to HD TV on low which sounds great. The high setting seems to create an echo and tinniness which doesn't sound quite right.

The headphones themselves sit well on the head although can be a little tight at first. After a few weeks of use they become looser and more comfortable and the closed ear both block out sound and contain your sound really well.

I've had the headphones for about 6 months now and they were worth every cent.
