Did THE swap and won't look back – Yes I owned a Dyson stick vacuum. Was it perfect? Not quite even though it was great. Is the Shark better? Yes. Why? In one word - versatility. The Shark can be operated in various configurations which makes the job of cleaning much simpler. And of course it comes with a bunch of tools. We recently switched to hard wood floors. At this time, the Dyson was pushing and flicking debris around, the battery was dying, and the plastic housing had loosened causing the machine to lose suction. So it was time to research another cleaner. I'm glad I found the Shark. It does exactly what the Dyson does but more.

PROS:

It has 2 rollers: a plush one at the front that grabs all dust and debris, and a brush roller behind it. The clean achievable is quite incredible with this machine. We find it actually 'polishes' the boards to a nice shine.

The 2 LED lights at the front of the suction head are handy because they light up the dust in front of you. And it's satisfying to find the dust absolutely gone when you pull back.

The configurations are so great. With a flick of any of 3 switches located near each other you can use the machine for various purposes. Watch a video on it - it's so cool.

The detachable battery is useful because that means the vacuum can be put away in a cupboard while the battery is charging elsewhere.

The power on the unit is similar to the Dyson we had, so there's no issue with cleanliness of our floors.

The boost feature is powerful enough and the ON button conveniently stays on so you don't have to keep your finger on a trigger.

CONS:

In 'normal' mode, the unit is heavier than the Dyson. But seriously, pushing it along the floor is so easy, that once you've used it a couple times, it's unnoticeable.

OVERALL: I certainly recommend this vacuum. It does a great job of cleaning, doesn't cost as much as the opposition, and has more functionality. It's too soon to comment on battery life but at the moment, I get around 30 minutes which is plenty for my house. Oh, the carpet cleaning function is very effective too! We got it from Myer on Ebay for a fantastic discount!!!

Purchased in at eBay for $479.

Battery Life

Great vacuum, but poor battery life – This is a new model. Overall, I am very satisfied with it. It is easy to use, performs multiple tasks, is quiet, light and does an excellent job. My only gripe is the battery life. The manufacturer and call centre staff claim that it will perform 50 minutes on a single charge. Not true, 30 minutes is the best that I am able to get out of it. You will need to purchase a spare battery if you have a big house. That said, it is still an excellent vacuum cleaner.

Added. 12 months on from purchasing it, I’m not as enthusiastic about it now. I have stopped using it, as it constantly keeps clogging up and doesn’t do that great a job on carpet. I have gone back to my expensive, but excellent Windsor Sensor XP 15. Best machine on the market.

Purchased in for $500.
