Love this!! – I love my Shark!!! No effort to mop. The thing practically moves forward with one finger holding it. No back pain anymore from mopping. Nothing has gone wrong with mine for 3 years. Mopping is actually fun and I HATE cleaning!! Highly recommend this product especially if you have timber floors and you can’t steam mop like me. Show details
I found the product good and easy to use on my timber floor, however, the carpet cleaning is just ok – Happy with the product, very unhappy to find out I can not longer purchase the cleaning products. Rang recently to buy cleaning product only to be told for the carpet cleaner I should go to the supermarket, buy anything I can spray. When I purchased the machine I was told to ONLY buy shark products!!!! Show details
Shark takes a bight out of your pocket – The Shark Duo retaild for $499. I was lucky enough to buy this for $79 plus shipping because the company I bought itfrom was closing down. Being on a pension, $500 plus shipping is completely out of the question. I was excited about it until I discovered a small bit of info. the company conveniently seems to leave out. That info. Is that one… Read more
bottleof cleaner costs $138. Yes, it ends up making several bottles, but an extra $138 from apension is near impossible. I want people to be aware of this fact before buying one. Another fact conveniently left out is that this product is DISCONTINED. I have read a lot of comments from people desperate to find replacement scrubbers, to no avail. I don't know whether the omission of such facts constitutes illegal selling, but I think it should. I have yet to actually try this product due to the price and availability of its seemingly non-existant accessories. I would like to sell mine, but couldn't because selling it to an uninformed customer just wouldn't be right. A lesson to learn - when buying something so dear, first check out whether it is discontinued.
A worth while cleaning aid. Excellent on hard floors – In brief: inexpensive device that is a valuable aid to cleaning. edit: Hard floors are its where it shines. Primary needs: My wife brought the Shark Sonic Duo KD450 home from a shopping trip, the price was worth giving it a go. We have a dolomite drive way which results in grey staining of the carpet near the doors. We have polished… Read more
wooden floors in the kitchen/dining room. The dolomite dust staining is hard to shift even with a Rug Doctor which we hire once a year, and our carpet shampoo machine is useless with these stains. No vacuum cleaner (and we have tried many) reduces these dolomite stains. We have short pile woollen/nylon carpet.
Edit. 3/sept /16. tried the shark on the kitchen/dining polished wooden floors. It is excellent. It loosen material the broom left behind, and once the hard floor pads are moist, it cleans with ease. I used very little liquid spray and the floor dried very very quickly and was clean. 5 out of 5 for hard floors like mine. the bucket and mop are now redundant in those rooms. About to try it in the bathroom. I have trouble getting a good finish with mop and bucket. maybe its just me, but the Shark is terrifically good on the wooden floors I have. so yea, for that alone I'm glad my wife bought it.
Unpacking the Shark sonic duo: The was straight forward. When unwrapping the handle and connecting it to the body of the machine, be sure not to strain the white power cord that is joined at the factory to both the handle and the body of the machine. Dont use knives or scissors to cut the plastic wrapping in case you nick the power cords. It assembled simply and easily. Reading the box I discovered that no Shark cleaner concentrate is included. I didnt have any and didnt feel like running off to buy some. I used a little carpet shampoo I already had, so I expect better results with be obtained with the appropriate Shark concentrate.
I didnt read the instructions. I unwrapped the cleaning pads and found the one for carpets. (dont use the pad for spot cleaning to do the whole room). Read what is printed on the cleaning pads and you cant go wrong.
The pads went on easily, they have to go on the right way round and with the front pad located at the front of the machine. I was ready to go.
Performance of the machine:
I spent 10minutes doing half of our lounge pad, which includes the heavily stained areas by the front door. The Shark obtained very good results in the 3 minutes I spent on the dolomite stains. At the end of that time the grey stains were reduced by at least 50%. The rest of the cleaned area was impressively cleaned too. As you do not need to make the carpet any more than lightly sprayed, the carpet soon dried. The difference between the half of the room I cleaned with Shark and the half I did not clean was quite noticeable.
I found the Shark sonic duo very easy to use, its not hard work. The machine is light and simple to use. It is comfortable to use. It is not noisy nor is it unpleasant - the vibrations from the pads are isolated very well from the handle. The machine did not sound stressed on my carpet, it easily did it's thing.
As mentioned I did not use the Shark cleaning concentrate, just a bit of carpet shampoo with water. Before I continue I will go and get the right stuff.
I expect that the machine will last a long time - it do not get hot, it was not strained, and it feels good to use. I think it is important to use the right cleaner concentrate to ensure the sprayer doesnt clog up - I will be running plain water through at the end of each use I think, just to keep the internals from of deposits.
Conclusion: The machine is a good one, it works and its easy and pleasant to use. The more you use it the more successfull I think I think I will be at eradicating the dolomite staining of the carpet which is the particular issue in my house. I am quite surprised at the effectiveness and ease of use of the machine, and, by the feel and sound of the machine, the quality of its internal parts. It was worth trying it out and I'm glad we have it. I expect it to make our annual hire of a Rug Doctor more effective.
The Shark Sonic Duo is not a miracle worker - but it is an easy to use and pleasant to use cleaning device that works.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the cleaning pads I used on the carpet are now grey in colour from the dolomite grit and dust they picked up and held. They need a wash. Also, I just went over the cleaned area with the Bissell carpet shampooer and on emptying the dirty water from it, found far less dolomite coloration in it than usual as a result of using the Shark. Of course, using the carpet shampooer made the carpet wetter than the slight dampness resultant from the use of the Shark. I conclude that a weekly use of the Shark all year round, even in winter, will present no problems at all. If I can keep up the routine, no doubt the dolomite staining of the carpet will be solved. I would think the carpet shampooer we have (which has a number of draw backs) will be rarely used from now on. I was never happy with it. I will report back later with another edit about how the Shark has performed longer term in the next 3 months or so. I must admit I was skeptical about the Shark, however, having the results it seems I was wrong. It is very useful.
Very easy to use – I purchased my Sonic Duo last year and up until recently only used it on hardwood floors. It did a brilliant job and the floors came up like new. As I am now living in a house full of carpet I tried the Carpet Shampoo and although slightly disappointed at first, by the 3rd attempt the carpets came up much brighter, and cleaner. Even a few… Read more
stains, left behind by a professional carpet cleaner have now gone. I agree the price was a bit high but as I am happy with the product it was worth it.

This is extremely good for someone like me with a disability, and for my cleaner that has never used – The sonic is a light weight, fit for purpose product when used properly, once you get your head around the instructions. I have a council provided cleaner come here to assist me with cleaning, and was tired of watching her with the mop. This machine , when not "forced" onto a surface is great. carpet pads on, to the floor boards and tiles throughout the house it performed very well, in fact the cleaner is going to buy one, and yes, you can use it with just your little pinky finger, don't force it, let the machine do the job.
Now all is never perfect, not so much the machine, but the strategic amounts of cleaning fluids that come with it, the ads may say a years supply, but I've done the maths on one hours use doing the hard surfaces, the very small amount of the different fluid they provide you with for carpet and rugs. In no way shape or form will any of the carpet based fluid products last that long, they are simply far to small, and I have literally titrated the measurements of product to water and , sorry, that is ridiculous, especially if you have a lot of carpet, and young kids and or animals, the hards surfaces supply may last one year, as long as you mop every other day!
Point A : spot stain remover, a spray bottle that holds no more than 296mls, so say you left a cup of coffee are on the coffee table and the dogs tails hits it, but you had forgotten, and have been gone for an hour, the stain sets, as the cup holds around 300mls, even a very gentle spray with this stuff, it does work, but has used around 60mls, for the one stain, also beware, this stuff is like the old "big kev's" stain remover, you know, suddenly that red wine stain disappears, well it appears to but when you look at the backing of the carpet, it's still there, it's just the top of the carpet looks ok, still it's an aesthetic thing , so no visible mark, the amount supplied is far to little for a normal young family of that stain remover
Point B : The low moisture carpet cleaner, 3 parts water to 1 part cleaner, which is supplied in a 237ml bottle on a typical family carpeted house, say of three bedrooms, which with a family and pets, no matter how much vacuuming you do, the carpets get crucified, the amount supplied would be lucky to get four carpet cleans out of the 237ml concentrate.
As most people generally have tiled bathrooms, laundry, kitchen, they completely over supply with that hard surfaces concentrate, but where they know your going to need it most , which is on carpets, they supply a tiny amount so you have to re supply , be warned these things average out to replace at between $25 and $30 dollars, so if you think the machine is expensive, just wait to you deal with the carpet concentrates.
Point C: the polish for hard surfaces, that is a joke, yes it works but again although in a big bottle (473mls) , got to laugh at that, that amount is completely unacceptable as well, it's farcical.
The machine is a cheap piece of equipment, made in China on mass, I guessing the manufacturing cost for them to make one is less that the balance sheet of cost of bringing containers in, so the actual unit cost is probably marked up by brand developers by well over 150% to the consumer, and even then, brand developers would have an agreement with their distribution company, due to shear volume of all of their products being sold on mass, therefore the import costs, and there selling/marketing people, who are usually outsourced to the cheapest people , being overseas call centres. Their advertising is generally done at off peak late television times as far as advertising costs go, so most of the product from hand to mouth is covered by outrageous postage costs, of which they have got really cheap due to the lowest bidder getting the contract to deliver the products to you, so in full their margin is massive,
If they were serious about customers, all the associated fluids that come with the machine should be the same volume (828mls) and three of each and every one of them especially the spot remover and carpet cleaner. Having spoken to a professional carpet and floor cleaner, someone who usually gets in to clean houses when people move out, or end of lease purposes, he gave me a few tips. Rather than pay the $25-$30 dollars for this stuff, look at the back and the ingredients and active ingredients ( face it...the chemicals) if you take the time you will find at the supermarket many fluids that do the same job, have the same chemicals in them, and cost about $8 for a litre that is also concentrated, it means a long list of righting each type of cleaners concoction, and spending quite some time at the supermarkets finding them, also similar products can be bought that go with the hire carpet cleaners from the supermarkets.
I have estimated that an average household will spend the cost of the machine buying fluids in less than two years if you purchase the" Brand Developers" product rather than getting an exactly the same generic brand from the supermarket, mainly in regard to the carpet spot cleaner and carpet cleaner and the hard floor polish.
My points are my personal opinion, and may be incorrect, it leaves you all to ponder , remember advice is easy to throw out there, but should always be measured by yourself, I maybe completely wrong, however in our democracy we have a right to voice an opinion, so all of the above is just my opinion, based on observation of the product , and the marketing strategy of the chemicals that give the seller a long term cash flow on each unit, each person out there can form their own opinion and challenge themselves to be a bit cautious, and be very careful about buying the stuff from the supermarkets re read what's in the product before you buy it or you may void your warranty.
Really Happy – I'm really glad I decided to get the sonic duo. I tried it on my hard floor and carpet. While cleaning the carpet I wasn't sure if it was getting cleaner, because they weren't that dirty and had no stains, but after I had finished and I stood back to look at them they were much brighter. I'm very happy :) UPDATE Now it's may 2016 I have had… Read more
this for a little while now. I use this as my mop, I threw my old style one out. I am still really happy with it and I'm glad I bought it. When the products that came with the machine was getting low, I rang the Tv shop and ordered a whole heap. I recommend everyone should do that too. I always use this on our carpets when the kids have been sick on it, obviously pick up chunks first. With 4 young kids and cream carpets, I am really grateful I have this. To date I have not used the timber floor polish as I don't have timber floors but it works great on our concrete floor.
Very bad experience of customer service – I called TV shop for buying Shark Sonic and the woman on the other end was rude from the beginning. She was speaking all the marketing rubbish and not willing to answer any of my questions. And when I said if she can call me in an hour as I need to talk to my husband before I decide to spend $500 on a mop...she rudely said goodbye and hung up! I… Read more
called them again and complained about it. And thank God I haven't yet spent any monies on these mean people. If that sort of customer service is what they give you before purchase, I can imagine what it would be after the purchase. And after reading reviews about the actual product, I can only say: Stay away from them. Neither the product nor the service is worth your time and money!
One way trip to a rubbish tip.Shark rotator 501 serious – All goes well when it's working.Motor ceased, and it's worth nothing now.Just a piece of plastic junk. Can't get parts for it in Australia, and repair agent for it available. And talk about warranty,You can throw that out the window as well....For the future in my opinion best to inquire the availability of parts in Australia When shopping for any… Read more
Electrical products.....And by the way all electrical products are made to last to a certain period of time before you need to change...This is the manufacturers policy.......
same as other shark products in Australia No service! – all nice when it works, and shark does a good job, but when it goes wrong you can throw it in the garbage. you can't buy any parts in Australia, no online parts shop, no shop like in the USA and you pay double the price which is a bit greedy. and you can't buy it online in the USA, they won't ship it to Australia other than that , I love the… Read more
Shark equipment, and I wished I would live in the USA
And what about the warranty..... yes 5 to 10 years which mean nothing, have you calculated the postage? and then you get the email ... parts.....xx dollar.... labour is under warranty......but still expensive because parts are double of the price of the USA
so at the end I bought a Sebo, also expensive but quality AND there is a good service in Australia.

Know better, choose better.
Over Priced Junk – This is over priced rubbish and is not worth the $500 (AUD). It is of poor quality and flimsy design. Do be sucked in to this junk.
Good on Hard Wood Floors – I bought it because I have hardwood floors that were showing wear and tear signs and light scratches. The hardwood polish has brought the floors up and made them look great. I agree that it is a bit over priced but I am pleased I bought it as my floors do look great. I don't have any carpets.
Overpriced – Too expensive $150-$200 in the USA. $500 in Australia. Does not do what its advertised to do but what new.
Shark Sonic Duo – The shark sonic duo product is an a waste of money, does not do what is claimed, slick American marketing nothing more - don't buy this product. It should not be marketed nor sold in this country, because it simply does not work, to say otherwise is a blatant lie.
Shark duo – I love my shark products and wil continue to buy them, however this particular product doesn't clean carpet as well as it is indicated on the TV, but it does a great job on the hard surface floors, it is also extremely over priced for what it is.. Cleaning products need to brought from the TV SHOP only, it's not a convienent piece of equipment… Read more
for just hard surfaces.. It cleans hard surfaces well, it's design makes it daily simple too use and the spray feature allows for continuous cleaning product delivery Over priced, not that good on carpets, not very convenient for a quick clean
Sonic Duo almost as useful as a Sonic Screwdriver – I bought this as an addition to my Shark Rotator Pro as a Carpet and Wood cleaner and polisher. It does a really good job and is super easy to use. I have used it on several carpet marks that I have been otherwise unable to remove, and after using the pre-treater and carpet cleaner they were gone, and haven't returned. my timber floors too, it leaves them clean and streak free - I still like to use my steam mop as well but it does get them really clean.
