Don't believe the bad press about this machine – It works just fine. It's a fast and hard working machine. I, too, once had some troubles with it and was ready to give up on it until I discovered how to actually thread it! The key to threading it, I discovered, was when you turn the winder to bring up the bobbin thread you need to do it slooooowwwwwly! The bobbin thread needs stay within the… Read more

groove section around that 8 o'clock position. If you do it too fast, you'll pull it right out of the grooved section and towards the 6 o'clock position and that's where all your troubles will begin. Watch it while doing this to make sure it stays in. If it does come out of the groove, do it again and get it right. An extra 2 seconds doing this will save you an hour of frustration and a world of pain. Perhaps it could be said that this is a fault with the machine. In other words, it's not idiot-proof. So, stop being an idiot and it will work for you, too. When correctly threaded, it's a fast and accurate machine. I have never been able to make the needle threader work so I just do it the old fashioned way. It can take a few tries but it's all good. Sometimes when I'm filling a bobbin, the bobbin slips. When that happens, I just use a tiny blob of blue tack between the bobbin and the post and that works a treat. I don't actually do a lot of sewing - mostly repairs but for that it's a great machine as it would be for anything else, too. I would give it 4.9 stars but since I can't, I'll round it up to 5 stars.

Exceeds expectations - sews anything I can get under the needle – This was a gift to replace a 1960s model 348, and I was sceptical that it could be sturdy enough to be a long term purchase. However, after 14 years of happy sewing without a hiccup, I can't fault it. It is exceptional with stretch fabrics, the triple stitch is fantastic, and no skipped stitches. I've sewn lined curtains, toddler /childrens… Read more

clothing and many repairs and alterations. I've never had it serviced, but I am fastidious about keeping it clean (brushing out fluff and lint and taking out the bobbin case and feed dog plate to ensure I've got it all), and oil as per instructions. Like all modern machines, it's not the prettiest- acres of white plastic - but its a great all-rounder.

Don't waste your time and energy on Singer 2662 – I didn't purchase this brand new, thank god, I got it second hand from my sister in law who had barely touched it since she purchased it so it was in almost new condition once it came my way. I was so excited I sold my original Singer, bad bad idea. This machine is just like another review before said, RUBBISH. No matter what you do, check… Read more

everything forwards and backwards, under and over and in and out something is just not right. On the rare occasion it decides to actually do it's job it is wonderful! But that doesn't last for very long and then your back to troubleshooting the 2662. I dislike this machine so much that I feel bad even giving it away to someone. That tells you something right there. Luckily my cousin mailed me my mother's Bernina 830 that performs and runs perfectly along with her table.

Do not buy this machine!! – My mum and I bought this machine at the same time and it has given us nothing but trouble. I have had singer fix my machine three times under warranty (the first being after 6 weeks) and it is useless. Doesn't sew well and just basically rubbish. The light went out within a day (same with my mums) and it lost its power within a month. I would not… Read more

recommend this machine. I am using my mums one now (which has been fixed twice by singer) and it actually blew up in my face and cut out our electricity. Do not buy this machine!!!!! Can be great when it works well which is rare.

Great Machine – I had to comment after reading so many negative reviews on Amazon.com. I purchased this machine several years ago and had used it off and on for mending. However, for the past 3 to 4 months I have discovered quilting and have used it extensively. It works well. I have made 5 throw size (roughly 60 x 80 inches) quilts and have machine quilted… Read more

(stitch in the ditch, parallel lines, flowers, and parallel lines using some of the fancier stitches)all of them. I am learning to free motion stitch on it.

I recently realized that I need an extension table in order to make it easier to machine quilt. After looking at the cost of the extenders I thought about upgrading. However, the machine works well, my interest is learning to free motion quilt more than having a machine with 100 stitches, and have recently purchased (and used extensively) a walking foot, 1/4 inch foot, and quilting/darning foot, I've decided, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. So I will continue to use my Singer 2662 and buy an extension table for it. I am in the process of making a queen size spread and look forward to free motion quilting it on the Singer 2662.

nycer - Coopertown, TN Reliable, great value for price paid, versatile (with the purchase of extra feet, I quilt extensively) Instructions are hard to follow for obtaining the various stitches

Excellent – Very good machine. I bought it at a mothers day sale more than a year ago for $299. It is worthwhile if one uses most of the functions. The top drop-in bobbin with see-through cover is very handy and easy to use. Just have to buy extra bobbins for different thread colours. Winding bobbin is very easy and fast. This machine makes my sewing a… Read more

breeze. It works very well and has a lot of functions. It has been reliable and the stiches turns out very nice. Only 1 step to make a button hole. The bobbin is noisy when I sew using this machine, but this is not a problem for me.
