Singer Confidence 7470

Very disappointing – The needle bar (the thing that holds the needle in ) broke, with the result that the needle kept either dropping out or banging into the footplate and snapping. The machine is 5 years old and has not been used an awful lot. Singer will not even inspect it to see what is wrong unless I pay. A local repairer says it is unmendable. Both bad workmanship and bad service lead me to advise you not to buy this machine. Show details
Only 6mths old and not working – I bought a Singer Confidence reduced from $800 to $300 6 months ago, I have only used it a couple of times and each time I have threaded the bobbin and proceeded to sew it refused to start sewing properly. I attempted to do the bobbin re -threading and the top thread re-threading over and over again to no avail. It's last reaction after a… Read more
bobbin refill was to suddenly shudder and shake and make a grinding noise.
It then settled down but now won't let the top thread pick up the bobbin thread. The dreadful shuddering, metal hitting metal reaction when the needle hit the bobbing when starting to sew stopped, but no stitch will appear on the fabric. Changed needles, cleared the bobbing casing several time and have taken the metal plate off every day to see what was happening in there, to no avail. I am taking it back for a refund shortly, don't want a repair, know a few people that said the repairs don't work. A repair man told me that most people don't have them repaired because of the cheap purchase the repairs generally cost more that it would make more sense to buy a new machine of another breed.
Garbage That Has No Right To Be Called A Sewing Machine. Waste Of Money – I paid around $800 for this garbage from Lincraft. As soon as the warranty ended the machine ceased to sew. It's been in for repair 3 times now and none of the professionals can get it to sew. This machine has been placed on the blacklist by the repair/service centre in Melbourne. Can't get parts for it either. The bobbin threat bundles up into a… Read more
mass of cotton. The buttonholes don't start or finish where you line them up. It sounds like a harley when sewing, bouncing all over the place. As for the embroidery stitches... they'd be great if the thing actually sewed!! Biggest disappointment and waste of money-I should have bought a $199 Janome, then I'd still have a machine that worked!!!! It was difficult to find a service centre for Singer or get in contact with Singer Australia as their telephone numbers listed online were incorrect. The year under warranty when it worked. Glad it's been blacklisted so it saves others from wasting money on it. Professionals can't fix it and parts are no longer available (unless you take them from a brand new one).
My 25 year old Singer is better, what a lemon – I have an old Singer without any fancy features that has been a complete workhorse. I thought I'd treat myself to a new Singer as I was getting a little more adventurous with my sewing. I bought this online on special, thank goodness. It's been a real let down. It feels cheaply made (plasticky) and as stated by the other reviewer the foot pedal… Read more
doesn't always work (sometimes you have to press and release twice). The feed dog has jammed a few times and I've had to have it professionally repaired. Fabric can get caught up easily, stitches aren't always straight, the list goes on. The embroidery feature is a nice idea but looks very average. You can not change the size of letters or pictures, they are small, thin and messy. That said, I do sometimes monogram school gear (eg inside of hat) and it looks better than a laundry marker. If I had to look for positives I'd say that the bobbin winder works well and it is relatively easy to thread. Also, you don't need to lift the bobbin thread, you just put it in and it happen automatically. Overall my old Singer is a far superior machine. Sturdy, reliable and has all the functions I need. Bobbin winding and thread lifting. Poor quality, faulty, embroidery feature is a gimmick
Really disappointing. I wouldn't recommend it at all – I was really disappointed with this machine. It didn't sew very well at all, the foot pedal felt cheap and was unreliable, and although I persisted with it, I ended up returning it, and luckily got a full refund. Hmmm, there was nothing that really stood out as being great. The foot pedal was unreliable, it's speed was jerky, it usually needed to… Read more
be pressed 2-3 times to get it going, and then it just stopped working at all and I had to get the pedal replaced. The straight sewing sticth had a slight slant to it. When starting to sew, and doing the reverse function,it would often bunch up and chew up the fabric, the alphabet is very small, the cover is only very flimsy, and for the money paid I thought it would come with a decent cover
