Dishwasher is stuck, lights flashing and making weird noises – My Smeg DWAU149X dishwasher is stuck and making weird noises. The lights are on for the setting with an icon of the dishes in water which flashes on and off, and the 70 degree end icon is lit up. I can't force stop this or override it. Last month it wouldn't drain properly and previous to that the top tray wheel snapped off like another… Read more

I've tried unplugging it at the power point and a hard reset via opening and closing the door when the power button is on but no luck.

Worse dishwasher ever – I bought a house with a this dishwasher in it(had only ever seen poor Smeg reviews and would not have chosen it)and it has never worked well. Turning it on has always been hit or miss. I had one service call and it worked ok while he was there and stopped working the next day. The last time I used it took several attempts to open the door and am… Read more

no longer comfortable loading it and trying again. After reading other reviews it appears I will be better off buying a new dishwasher than calling for yet another service call.

Would give 0 if I could – This dishwasher has had all the problems you can possibly think of. Opening handle broke 2 years in, start button got loose, builds up grime at seal, top slide out tray snapped, had it fixed once already when it broke down and now have given up as it keeps breaking down every other month. Buying a new one which will definitely not be Smeg!  Show details

Disappointed SMEG dishwasher, repair cost same as buying new – Handle has been funny for some time now and suddenly it stopped working and water didn't drain out, doesn't even power on. SMEG technician came out ($150) and within minutes not much checking said main PCB needs replaced. (almost sounds like this happens often, typical case). so then I get a quote to part replaced for $666? really how long would… Read more

this last then? for a little more, would get a brand new dishwasher. scratching my head what to do, lockdown means more dishes.....

Unhappy loyal Smeg customer – Our dishwasher is just over 4 yrs old. Started playing around and now stopped working. It just beeps once when turned on, no lights, not working. Dead! First was our Smeg toaster- gone! Followed by Smeg microwave- gone! They stopped working quite earlier than expected. . Most of our appliances are Smeg products. We chose Smeg kitchen appliances… Read more

when we built our house because of it’s presumed reputation, but now having second thoughts. Very frustrating. Our previous dishwasher from other brands lasted way longer than our Smeg. Please restore my faith in Smeg. Any help out there? Thanks

Dishwasher stopped working – Bought this dishwasher 5 years back and it stopped working all together .. a technician came in to see it and had to pay call out fee of $ 165 and was told it would cost $550 for repairs. Thankfully smeg agreed to cover repair cost as a goodwill gesture which is much appreciated. So happy with their customer service. Show details

Very disappointed – Purchased a Smeg Dishwasher (plus oven, gas top) due to the premium brand image so expected a reliable machine. The dishwasher cleans well but unfortunately only after 3.5 years the buttons have stopped working and can only turn it on 50percent of the time, so frustrating! Smeg technician came out (cost 120 call out) but found nothing wrong and… Read more

said if problem persisted it would be the PC board (or electrical board). The problem has persisted, so I called Smeg customer service and they quoted 585 just for the electical board part, and thats excluding labour costs!

Found this cost staggering and totally unacceptable so will have to purchase a new dishwasher (as cheaper than repair) after only 3.5 years (my parents Bosch going strong after 9 years).

Recommend potential buyers to do their research and purchase a cheaper more reliable brand that will last you more than just a few years.

Falling apart!! – This dishwasher is the worst I've ever come across. Moved into a new house with this model installed and now it's totalling falling apart. First time using Smeg and very disappointed. Last year, less than 3 years in, the handle got loose and broke followed by the power button. And now it's stopped working. Driving my family insane!!  Show details

Does not live up to Smeg's upmarket reputation! – Moved into a brand new house with Smeg appliances (Dishwasher, Stove, Rangehood and Oven) about 2.5 years ago. Smeg dishwasher control panel went completely dead two weeks ago. Thought it was a blown fuse. Opened up control panel to check. After unscrewing, it was almost impossible to tilt the control panel open and even harder to put it back… Read more

later because the plastic protective covers that protect the circuit boards inside were too big to fit into the door cavity - poor design. Rang Smeg Sydney and they confirmed that we were out of their 2 year warranty and there is no fuse as such, but it is likely that you'll need to change the timer($468), plus call out rate($125,) plus maybe additional 30mins fixing time(2 x $30), plus GST(10%) which amounts to $718.30! I told Smeg that for about $700, I might as well go out to buy a new dishwasher and they did not reply nor did they offer any suggestion - not exactly a reputable brand attitude. looks like we may have to buy a new dishwasher from one of the German brands. We had a Bosch dishwasher in the last house for more than 7 years and did not have any issue even once.

Too many problems to count! – The handle broke through normal use and when I reached in to feel the snapped mechanism received a massive electrical shock. Also the sliding rail snapped, electrical fault means buttons work intermittently and gunk builds up at the bottom door. All of this in the first two years! Expensive repairs and still experiencing electrical faults with the buttons.  Show details

Another unhappy Smeg customer – Smeg dishwasher with another power board problem - the main PCB timer is faulty. The machine is 3 years and and 9 months old and, stopped working, this is very disappointing as Smeg promotes itself as a premium brand, I am now waiting for my other Smeg appliances to start having problems. The cost of repairing is also astronomical - $759 which includes a $90 service call and labour costs of $90.  Show details

Be careful before buying SMEG – Terrible dishwasher. We bought few years ago and all of a sudden it won't turn ON. It cost us $150 call out fees and quoted us $500 to replace main PCB. After replacing it still won't work. Very disappointed with SMEG dishwasher and will not recommend to any one. We've other SMEG kitchen appliances as well and am wondering if I've to replace all of them periodically.  Show details

What a piece of junk ! – Our 4 year old Smeg DWAU149XO dishwasher has finally given up after a long history of faults. Came home today to find the drain pump running constantly even though the unit is completely empty and has not been turned on for a few days!. Now unable to change modes or stop the pump running as soon at the unit is turned on . I've lost count of the… Read more

number of issue we have had with this machine and don't get me started on the door handles, I have had them replaced so often I have lost count. For a brand that is supposed to be a class leader, I am extremely disappointed and will be making a point to never buy any SMEG appliances again in the future..

Will not buy smeg again – Smeg dishwasher just over 3 years old has completely packed up - power board is not functioning at all so it won't even switch on. I was quoted approx $800 by smeg to repair this which is ridiculous when I can purchase a new dishwasher of another brand for comparable price. I'm disappointed that this appliance has failed only a year outside of the… Read more

warranty period. My smeg microwave did exactly the same thing about 6 months after warranty too. I purchased smeg appliances because I thought it was such a reputable brand. With four smeg appliances in my house failing within 6 months of each other (all around 3 years old), I have little faith in the brand and will be moving on.

Wouldn't buy a smeg dishwasher again – This is the second of these dishwashers that we have owned. The first failed only five months into warranty with a no drain problem. The agent smeg told us to use carry out the repairs had no idea how to fix it and eventually took it to his shop. He got smeg to replace the product and that has worked till now when yet another drainage fault has… Read more

occurred some 26 months after it was installed. When working, the product cleaned dishes very well and there was plenty of room for big plates in bottom shelf with long stemmed glasses in top shelf, though that is not of much use when it fails so quickly. It is an premium product that should last much longer than two years.

Don't bother. Bosch are better! – So much grime build up around bottom seal, food gets caught in there and then when you close the door it gets trapped so it can't be washed out with cycle. Glasses don't stand up...very poor layout. Long cycles that aren't self explanatory without studying manual. Cutlery tray keeps falling out as plastic stopper keeps slipping off.

Not what they used to be – Utter rubbish. If it was a third the price then I'd figure that I got what I paid for. The draw runners and tracks are of poorer build quality than a Simpson, and have to be manhandled and refitted constantly. Glasses won’t stand up. Dish racks won’t hold bowls and small plates. Noisy, long winded cycles. Significant grime build-up under the door… Read more

ledge after only a few cycles. Dishes never dry. Power button recently popped out. And, every time I turn it on there's that feeling of having been ripped off. SMEG is trading on past glory, using up the brand's former solid image to fleece us. Really no better than an LG or a Simpson, which is fine if you are paying AU$400, but bloody annoying if you've forked out AU$950.
