My PUM60X rangehood suddenly had its suction power significantly reduced one day. Then, after a while, the extraction fan completely stopped working, while the indicators and lights are still functioning. Troubleshooting on the manual didn’t help much. Show details

OK range hood, but control panel died very soon – Of 5 buttons on the control panel, 2 stopped working completely, and 1 works very bad: I have to press it, like, 50 times for it to work. Meanwhile, replacement control panel costs 500$, and that doesn't include work and callout fees.

Noisy and Control Panel Doesn’t Work – Noisy to operate even on the lowest setting and the light button stopped working. Spent $100 to replace the light bulb which didn’t fix the problem and now I have to pay $300 to replace the control panel because 1 button doesn’t work! This doesn’t include the technician cost either which will probably be an additional $200. Crazy!

This product is aesthetically well designed, however recently the light switch and motor stopped working. Expected – Having a electrical trades background, I decided to unmount the rangehood and inspect the rangehood as to why it is not working. I found two faults (This particular unit) inside the control box housing the control board and wiring. a) The motor capacitor terminals are bent inward as the control housing is a tad small. This in turn causes the… Read more

capacitor spade terminals to weaken, over time they fail. Secondly I also found the active and neutral wires were jammed against the small power transformer causing and causing a break in the circuit.

A slightly bigger housing for the control/capacitor would help and if cable ties were used to tidy up the wiring.

Repaired the wiring and replaced the spade terminals for the capacitor and the rangehood is working well.

Strictly not advising any unqualified people to open the unit up, but my feedback is more for the manufacturer to improve product quality.

Excellent customer service – Our Rangehood worked well for 5 years and then the unit turned its self on and we were unable to turn off. Smeg customer service was amazing and they arranged for the unit to be fixed Without any out of pocket expenses. Rangehood working like new again, so grateful and unexpected.  Show details

Fantastic customer service – Unit worked very well for around 4 years, then lights became unreliable and unit started by itself during the night. One quick email to Smeg service dept was all it took. Repairs arranged within a day, all to agreed timing, and at no cost. Unit working perfectly again. The Smeg customer service experience in my opinion has been really exceptional. Thanks guys.  Show details

Smeg PUM60X is very noisy and can not turn off via the control board's switch button – Installed as part of the newly built investment apartment. Very loud and not even turning off!? Cost to supply and fit 1 x new replacement Smeg (SMHA016W7S-06) electronic control switch to the existing rangehood: $550.00 including GST (and currently out of stock in Australia without any indication when next time available). Smeg PUM60X is very noisy from begining and can not turn off via the control board's switch button recently – Smeg PUM60X has been installed by the builder since end 2015. From beginning the fan noise is very loud and the control swith ( swith button) always has problem , especially the light control button . Recently , only the button which is used to control the mid-level fan can work, the other four button (OFF button, low-level button,… Read more

Parts can be attained cheaper – A common problem with the Smeg PUM90X and PUM60X is the electronic switch for turning on fan speeds and light, which when faulty causes unit to turn on by itself or not turn on or off. Cost from Smeg service centres $300+. But eBay has them for $27 through, Discounted Parts Supplies. Be sure to check shows how much the parts are actually worth. Show details

Doesn't do its job as a Rangehood – We had bought the house with items already installed. My wife likes to cook but this rangehood does not do what its supposed to do, collect steam and fats. It bypasses the rangehood even at high speed and noisy as you know what and still ends up on the overhead cupboards. Sales rep said it would be quiet. SO wrong!! – New house build, purchase based on Smeg reputation and sales advice that this would be quiet. So wrong! Can’t hear anyone talk when running. Checked with meter; 74dB on low, 80 on high. Smeg customer service followup was good; they sent someone to check it, who said the ducting was incorrectly installed, but once it was repaired it only lowered the noise by around 10 decibels, still too loud to talk in the same room. Show details

Extractor doesn't seem to suck – Extractor is literally just out of warranty and is not sucking anything and hasn't done for some time. Makes all the right noises so thought it was just me. For a product to sound like it is working and only to find out that it is not when a small amount of smoke circulates through the house and set's off your fire alarms does not help anyone. Show details

Doesn't really reflect the SMEG quality – We're quite familiar with the brand SMEG and we've already owned several in the past. We always think that SMEG is synonymous to quality so when we saw that this was included in our recent home build, we didn't bother upgrading it. Unfortunately, extraction was not that good even though this was vented out externally. And most of all it is noisy… Read more

AWFUL--doesn't work!! – We have the EXACT same problem with the PUM90x Would randomly turn on, then not turn off. fan speed or would just default to full speed but can also hear the faint beeps as you would when pressing a button (but often difficult to hear while unit is running). i just hope i get the same response from Smeg as some others have, as my unit is also out of warranty but clearly its an inherent fault on this device. Worst part is the fact that its an undermount and cabinetry was designed around it! We are such fans of their ovens, my wife figured we should stick to the same brand....I should just blame my wife!
