I was dazzled by its looks
I only have myself to blame.
I read the reviews. I saw the disappointment. I brushed them aside and bet it wouldn’t affect me. I was wrong.
Purchased in December 2019, by mid 2020 I’d noticed a bubble start to appear just below the lid opening on one side of the kettle.
I read the reviews again and found multiple complaints of the same issue. And many others. I kicked myself.
For such an expensive item, I was so disappointed. It just boils water, but it looks so nice.

Sleek
The 1950’s appearance makes this Smeg Kettle an icon of its own, its classy and will fit into any kitchen. Though it appears to be built with a steel casing, its actually hard plastic. Cool to touch around casing, so not hot fingers to worry about. As always, depending on water amount is length in time, but overall is quick. Surprisingly, as you may find, new kettles have a chemical water taste at first and need quite a few boils to eliminate. With the Smeg, we boiled water 3 times, then made a beverage and walla, perfect coffee. This is one of...
Read more the quietest kettles we have purchased. My daughter too made a comment, not feeling bad for using the kettle first thing in the morning. The only negative I have, is the water level is situated Vertically under the handle. Though it is hidden from view giving it a sleek appearance, it is in an awkward place. Comes in a range of colours. Comes with a 2 year warranty.Purchased in at Myer for $199.

Not so impressed with this kettle, for starters it doesn’t have a red ball to help show the water level,
I’ve found when pouring, steam leaks from under the lid and onto your hand.
Paint has developed an air bubble near the rim and has started to peel

When we first pruchased the kettle the water booiled very fast nw takes three days.
Water and steam leaks around the handle & water gauge and you burn your hand with the steam when you pick up the kettle.
Developed a blister just below the lid which eventually bursed.
$238.00 No thanks.

I love the design of this kettle and it matches my toaster but unfortunately, like other reviewers, I have had a problem with a bubble appearing near the rim. I have already had one kettle replaced but a bubble has appeared on the replacement kettle too. Very disappointing. Given that this appears to be a known problem it's surprising that SMEG hasn't addressed the issue.

A pretty good kettle - heats up on par with anything else and reasonably quiet compared to some other models - doesn’t get too hot on the outside - easily see how much water is in it and looks great on the bench.. Good Solid handle to grab hold of..
I would say that its only downfall is its weight if you have to hold it under water thats running though a filter that slows it down

Agree totally. We have a similar problem with a blister which has formed near the lid of a pastel blue kettle purchased from Harvey Norman in March 2021. This happened within six months of purchase and we didn’t act on this so it’s now too late to do anything about it. So, just have to live with a blister on an expensive kettle,

So, so disappointed. My husband brought me a pink Smeg kettle and toaster for Christmas 2020. Within the first few months a blister had formed under the surface near the lid and this just grew until it was well over the size of a 50c piece. Returned to Harvey Norman, where they replaced. Great! Now the new kettle has just formed a blister. Once...ok, twice...sad face.
Aside from this, they look great on my bench - just annoying that this is happening.

Nice looking kettle but would never buy Smeg again. First kettle started producing a burning smell from the base after just over a year. This was replaced under guarantee and the second kettle is now exhibiting the same fault. Smeg will not replace this as it is now over two years since the original purchase. Very dissatisfied. Bought a very expensive kettle thinking it would last quite a number of years and it's money down the drain.

I’ve had this kettle for 2 years (Christmas present from my lovely husband) and it has always done its job without any issues. The colour is still as vibrant as when I first got it out of the box and it sits on my kitchen bench paired with the matching toaster.
There is obviously a hefty price tag that comes along with this gorgeous kettle and in my opinion it’s worth it. Smeg is a well renowned brand and I love the way it looks in my kitchen, I’m always receiving compliments.
I think a Smeg kettle will compliment any kitchen. There is such a great colour range to chose from and an awesome way to have your appliances match your decor (and/or personality)

The lid pops open and the hinge snaps for no apparent reason and you cant get it repaired.
This kettle is approximately 4 years old and has been reliable except for the lid opening. It releases and opens of its own accord. Yesterday, the hinge, which is plastic and obviously not very strong, snapped. It is not a serviceable part and consequently the kettle will have to be discarded. Not good for such an expensive kettle.
Since writing this review, I have been contacted by SMEG and they have graciously offered me a replacement as a gesture of good will. I would like to thank them for their professionalism and kindness and we are extremely grateful for this gesture.

Kettle upgrade.
Pros:
• Looks fancy on in your kitchen.
• Different heat options for different teas (if that’s your thing) .
• Can spin 360 degrees on it base.
• Heats water (kettles do that).
Cons:
• To boil you have to press the same button twice (power button for on, then again to start boiling) it gets a little annoying. In a rush you can walk away thinking it’s started boiling and come back to cold water. ...

Simple kettle with quality Brand. Bought the non-variable temperature option (couldn’t justify the additional cost for a few times use) and it works fine. Previously had the Bugatti red kettle (Bugatti Homewares which has nothing to do with the VAG owned Bugatti car manufacturer). The smeg is a nice design piece and unlike the Chinese made (Italian design) Bugatti kettle is works every time. To be honest if a company cannot make a workable, simple kitchen appliance like a kettle then they should not be in business. Smeg may be expensive but it serves its function but wouldn’t recommend it to an elderly frail person as it is heavy.

Questions & Answers
Why is my new kettle so noisy when boiling water?
Hi there. I purchased a smeg pink toaster and kettle from Myers carindale for my new kitchen. They are approx 4-5 years old. The toaster is still bright pink but the kettle has faded and looks terrible. Is this supposed to happen from constant heat? I’d love a new one but not if it fades so quickly. Has this happened to others? Or just this colour

Hi Theresa. I believe you have emailed our Diamond Team and we have emailed you back with a reply. Kind regards, Smeg Australia.
Hello,
I’ve purchased a smeg kettle and have used it for the first time today. Is it supposed to get so hot around the outside of the kettle? I’ve never had a kettle that gets so hot around the outside after boil. I accidentally touched the outside when pouring the water and have burnt myself. It’s very hot and quite dangerous, so I’m not sure if it is supposed to be this way?

Reviewers thought:
The product has a very classy look and is quick and quiet when boiling water. It is robust and the paintwork does not tend to scratch off with time.
The spring-loaded lid doesn’t function as smoothly as hoped. People have noted that the product is quite heavy (1.3kg) and even more so when filled with 1.7L of water. People also had some problems with the product leaking water.

Update - October 2021 - I've just had the second kettle replaced under warranty. This one had 2 bubbles appear in the paint work at about the 8 month mark.
Again replaced by Appliances Online though...
Read more they did gently suggest I choose another brand. I have the matching toaster, so I'd rather keep to the same kettle, as unlikely as it is that it'll be 3rd time lucky.
