My last Smeg toaster was amazing. It lasted years. Upgraded to a white 4 slice toaster and one day it will only toast the top of one side of bread and the next day it burns the toast. Took it back to receive a new one and my new one does exactly the same thing. Will not buy a Smeg toaster again. Show details

My daughter purchased a Smeg toaster and kettle for my wife's 60th birthday. She loved them. Looked terrific (which is a priority to her). However, before her 63rd birthday both have now broken down. We've replaced the kettle with a different brand, and haven't replaced the toaster yet as it just recently broken down. Premium priced kettles and… Read more

toasters like Smeg's should last more than 3 years shouldn't they?

The Smeg "Diamond Service is helpful only to the extent that one has a receipt. Without the receipt they politely wont help. My daughter wrote a email to Smeg (in respect of the earlier kettle) to explain that she purchased the items but couldn't find the receipt, but that made no difference.

Anyway, if you want a good looking toaster and that is your main priority, and not too fussed about its longevity, buy this, you'll be happy

Don’t waste your money – This is our second one of this model. Replaced the 4 slot wide version when it failed just outside of warranty. Wanted to keep within the range after updating our kitchen and purchasing the coffee maker and kettle as well. The first of this model failed within weeks and was exchanged at HN. The current toaster has now completely failed after a few… Read more

months. Issues are: 1. Inconsistent browning of toast. One side is often better toasted than the other. Need to set at 3.5 for the first slices then reduce to 2 for the next. Even then the toast cooked at 2 will often be burnt. 2. Crumbs everywhere. The crumb tray is useless. 3. The dog gets more toast than we do. The spring eject is so strong the toast sometimes makes it to the bench but usually the floor. 4. The slightest crumb touching the elements trips the power. 5. The button controls do actually nothing. 6. The centre element has stopped working at all and only one side of the bread is now toasted. 7. Now using a $15 Kmart toaster that does a much better job. The toast is cooked evenly and is hot.

Love my Smeg oven and Induction cooktop but will never buy a Smeg small appliance again. Smeg to need to scrap their entire small appliance range.

Waste of money, stops working just out of warranty – So unhappy with this purchase. I loved it for a year and still love the look but it stopped working properly just outside of warranty (of course), only toasts one side of break and takes forever to do that one side. Way too much money to only last one year :-( I have the matching kettle and coffee machine and hate that I now have to buy another brand that won't match my other appliances Show details

Expensive rubbish – I chose this toaster as I expected the quality would be high due to the high price. Don't waste your money! It only toasts one side of the bread and slowly too. My first toaster was kindly replaced by Smeg customer service, but the second one exhibited exactly the same characteristic. The popup function is too aggessive and throws the bread onto… Read more

Catapults!! – So expensive yet works like a k mart toaster. Spits all my toast out onto the floor. You have no idea how frustrating that is. If you put 4 toast in, you are sometimes fine. good luck if you just want two pieces Show details

Very disappointing for an expensive toaster – Firstly, can I just say that the Smeg customer service is excellent. But it seems this model toaster has some insurmountable issues. It looks absolutely beautiful and is very solid. It gives a good click when you push the lever down. The turn knob is also good quality. The problem is, it just isn’t good at toasting bread. The bread comes out… Read more

uneven and the darkness settings are hit and miss. Setting 2 might be too light one day and then too dark the next using the same bread. Anything 3 and above is pretty much burnt.

Also, if you have just one or sometimes two pieces of toast it likes to launch them comically into space. I’ve attached a video, each clip is a different piece of toast on different days.

Also, for some bizarre reason crumbs fall through the toaster and onto the bench (with the crumb tray in place). I’ve never seen this in a toaster before.

The toaster is designed to take four pieces at once but it can be a tight fit having 2 in each slot.

I did contact Smeg and they sent a new toaster. They were very responsive and had great communication. It took a long time (maybe 6 weeks?) as they were on back order but I was ok with that. Sadly the second toaster is exactly the same as the first. Friends have also had similar experiences.

It seems I didn’t receive a one-off faulty unit but there are some serious design issues with this particular model. Such a shame as it is a beautiful looking beast with strong build quality and the two long slots are very handy.

Smeg Footlong 4 Slices Toaster Blows My Mind – This is my first time and also my last time using Smeg appliances. Bought this Footlong 4 slices toaster along side with 1.7 litres kettle in white colour for a match yesterday from Harvey Norman. Let's not talk about the price but mainly on what I experienced. Unbox it and followed the instruction to run it at level 6 to burn away all the residue… Read more

from transportation. Did not use it until the 2nd day. 2nd day on their very first run, imagine what happen? The bread resting on the ground flying away from the toaster. Maybe this is just an accident. Give it a second chance, they are better now bouncing into our sink. Third try... take a video. Sent an email with the footage to Smeg but they're close for public holiday. So write to Harvey Norman and wanting an explanation. They called me shortly after saying they will replace a new one for me. So I take half day annual leave and drive to them and show them the video and the machine. The salesperson commented they never ever sees anything like that before. So I took home the replacement machine. Do the same procedure to set it up & give a try. Imagine what happen? The bread literally flies brown right tray and sitting into left tray.... WOW!!! So back in my mind I was like I should try the LEFT tray. And next thing is the bread fly from left tray onto our bench top. So i take another video, sms it to harvey norman and they want me to visit on Thursday with "a piece of bread" to demonstrate... I'm impressed. Because they never receive similar complaint before. But shortly after dinner I looked online for review and there is heaps of similar review!!! So now back and forward a replacement or refund is not good enough. I was dumb enough to given away my old Breville toaster. And Smeg you totally let me down with your product. It shouldn't be landed in store at the 1st place. Where is the Quality Control? And how many time and effort wasted to test your product?

Good (after needing warranty replacement) – I purchased the kettle and toaster at the same time. Our toaster was old and didn’t brown evenly. So when our kettle started leaking, it was a good excuse to replace them both. (Kettle review is available separately.) I’d admired the appearance of the Smeg range for a while, so as soon as I could justify it in my mind, I waited for a sale… Read more

and ordered them both in white.

We opted for the 2 long slot toaster, rather than 4 single slices. I believe this is far more flexible and will accommodate more types of breads. And the slots are extra wide so very little chance of anything getting stuck.

Love the look of the toaster. It could easily stay out on the bench. It’s lighter than I was expecting. I can absolutely lift it one handed from the bench into the cupboard below. The crumb drawer is also easy to remove and replace.

It has defrost, bagel/crumpet, reheat and cancel functions as well as a dial to determine the length of time the toast browns for. We tend to use it for standard bread, crumpets and some non standard bakery bread.

I will admit we are on our second one now having had the first replaced under warranty just before the one year mark. (Same for kettle too, though obviously different issues there.)

What were the problems? It didn’t brown the toast evenly. Far from it. And was quite unreliable in that regard.

But far worse than that was the ejection of the toast at the end of the browning cycle. Almost without fail, the toast would eject far out of the toaster and if you were lucky, it would land on the bench. Frequently though it would hit the bench and continue to the floor. The only way to stop it was to put it as far back toward a wall as possible and then babysit it while it cooked, so you could hope to block the pieces falling again.

Not really ideal. And to be honest, after reading reviews prior to purchase I was aware of issues with both of these appliances. I just hoped they wouldn’t happen with mine. But they did. (And by the sheer number of bad reviews I should have expected mine to go wrong.)

It was replaced under warranty. There was a delay of several months due to overseas deliveries, but Smeg were apologetic about it. There’s not much to do here – sometimes these things can’t be helped.

The new toaster is great! The toast stays in the toaster until a human removes it. No more babysitting the toast. And the browning of the toast seems consistent and is what I would expect from a toaster. I am glad I bought both of these appliances, even though I had to have both of them replaced.

Do I recommend them? If you love the look and really want these particularly, then go in eyes wide open, expect there may be problems, and buy from a reputable retailer who will be easy to deal with.

Both my replacement appliances are working well and doing exactly what they should have from the start. Fingers crossed they stay that way.

Worst toaster I have ever bought – This is a terrible toaster. Does not toast evenly, there are crumbs everywhere as the catcher is useless. For such an expensive item it is a great disappointment. Would not recommend at all.  Show details

So disappointed – I brought the smeg kettle because I loved its design so hubby wanted matching smeg toaster. It spits out the toast aggressively if you have only 2 pieces of toast in it. It doesn't cook toast properly more on one side than the other. It was so expensive I thought it would be an excellent toaster, how can something so expensive be so inadequate.… Read more

Looks great, doesn’t last! Very disappointed – I purchased this toaster in January 2019 and didn’t use it until mid 2019 as we were building. Yesterday the toaster failed and only toasts one side. It only comes with 12 months warranty so no point even emailing anyone. They look great and I have all smeg appliances to match, however I don’t feel the $200 price tag is worth it. Only toasts one side – Looks great but doesn’t work well. Only toasts one side of the bread (in both slots). As you can see in the photos, the two inside elements don’t even light up. Such a letdown – I really wanted to love this toaster as it looks classy on the bench but that's about the only pro. Wish I had read the reviews before I purchased as it wasn't a cheap investment. Looks great....fails at toasting – Love the look, fits in nicely when left on bench top. Sadly it fails at doing its core function....toasting (“You had one job!”). Toast comes out uneven, burnt on one side/barely toasted on the other, edges equally as uneven. This is regardless of how you position the slice in the toaster.  Show details

Love it! – After loving the SMEG kettle, I purchased the matching white 4 slice toaster. Omg! I love it. I love the style.. so chic. Looks amazing in my kitchen. The bagel function is the best! The bagel is defrosted perfectly. Doesn't get stuck in the toaster. The only thing I noticed is that if you put a thin slice of bread, the toast flys out of the toaster! Can be bit annoyed. I Still love this toaster and totally recommend it.  Show details
