Recently purchased the 4 slice retro toaster to replace my old Kmart one which I had for over 10 years and still worked well I simply wanted an update. How disappointed am I, it toasts unevenly, burns the crust and almost jumps out of toaster. I will be taking it back where I purchased it as $273 for a sub standard toaster is not on. Don’t waste your money – This is our second one of this model. Replaced the 4 slot wide version when it failed just outside of warranty. months. Issues are: 1. Inconsistent browning of toast. One side is often better toasted than the other. Need to set at 3.5 for the first slices then reduce to 2 for the next. Even then the toast cooked at 2 will often be burnt. 2. Crumbs everywhere. The crumb tray is useless. 3. The dog gets more toast than we do. The spring eject is so strong the toast sometimes makes it to the bench but usually the floor. 4. The slightest crumb touching the elements trips the power. 5. The button controls do actually nothing. 6. The centre element has stopped working at all and only one side of the bread is now toasted. 7. Now using a $15 Kmart toaster that does a much better job. The toast is cooked evenly and is hot.

Love my Smeg oven and Induction cooktop but will never buy a Smeg small appliance again. Smeg to need to scrap their entire small appliance range.

Great service from SMEG after electrical fault – My husband bought me the large cream SMEG toaster a couple of Xmas's back to match the kettle he bought me the previous year. my toaster blew up when I was pushing down the lever, tripping both the power point as well as the main safety switches, fortunately all newly installed last year. Unfortunately, the fright put my back out badly but is almost better 2 weeks later. I was going to just go buy a new toaster seeing as I had no receipt and the Warranty had expired. I found SMEG's customer service through this website, emailed them a picture of the toaster and serial number and what had happened and a brand new toaster was delivered to my door within three days! Thank-you SMEG for the great customer service. I didn't expect that great outcome.

The most beautiful toaster that toasts to perfection – I have quite a few Smeg Products, one of my favourites is my beautiful red toaster, it’s huge and I can toast large pieces in it, which I love. the years I have had a few Smeg products fail. However, the one thing that everyone should realise is that Smeg customer service is second to none. If you have a problem talk to Smeg and they’ll ensure that you’ll be well looked after. So don’t just complain or give up on the product, if you have an issue with your product, make sure you contact the customer care team. My beautiful red toaster was only toasting on one side, I contacted Smeg and they sent me a new one. It wasn’t complicated, I didn’t need to arrange to send the faulty one back. It was incredibly easy and fast. An unbelievable company that stand behind their products, that’s rare to find these days. Investing in a Smeg is well worth it.

great customer service – I had a smeg toaster that was 3 yrs old. was great the first 2 years then started having a couple small issues with it in the 3rd year until it had a malfunction. Spoke with smeg and despite it being out of warranty they replaced it with a new one. Their customer service was excellent and easy to deal with. I can’t understand the bad reviews – I am on my second Smeg toaster, the elements stopped working so Smeg replaced it for me, no questions asked. I’ve had the current one for almost two years and it’s perfect. Best toaster I’ve ever owned. Yes it does pop up rather high but it’s not the dramatic. Purchased both toaster and kettle to match our Smeg cooker, worst decision ever kettle lid failed within 6 months and they wouldn’t replace it as said was “mechanical damage” not sure how as we rarely used it as filled through spout, so continue to do so only an issue when friends fill it. 18 months now only toasts one side at a time. Seems Bagel toasting switch has failed even though we never used it. Absolute crap for the price. We are building a new home guess what cooker or appliances we won’t be having in it.

Don’t purchase this toaster – Brought this smeg toaster didn’t like it from the start, Toast ends up on the floor most times. It cooks one side more than the other. The toast jams underneath the metal holding devise and you have to get it out with a knife. It broke down after warranty and kept on blowing the fuse. Wouldn’t purchase this toaster again.

Looks good but terrible toaster – Terrible toaster. Looks good but fails within 2 years and zero service from smeg. I have had 2 that have both died in 2 years and smeg unwilling to warranty the product. Complete waste of money

Don’t buy it won’t last – I bought a set the toaster jug and blender as loved the look of them in my kitchen. the toaster only lasted 26months till it stopped working! Toaster stopped working and smeg wouldn’t replace – Toaster has always been an issue with toast jumping out of the toaster and onto the bench leaving crumbs everywhere. I am currently on unpaid maternity leave and the toaster stopped heating on 2 panels resulting in half bread / toast and unusable. I contacted smeg who advised as it is way out of warranty they are unable to replace, very disappointing as the toasters are super super expensive and you expect it to last a lot longer then they do. Show details

Expensive Rubbish - Don't waste your money – Got this toaster for Mothers Day last year. It started off well but unfortunately went downhill from there. circuiting issue at this stage but having the same experience as everyone else. My question is what is SMEG doing about it? I would not recommend this product nor will I purchase another SMEG ever again.

Smeg service – Toaster was cutting power off circuiting . I contacted smeg and it was replaced with in days super fast service. I hope all the new ones now have had this problem sorted as seems to be alot of toasters doing this. Customer service was amazing . Hope the toaster is now the same again amazing . Thanks

Flying toast – Like the look of the smeg toaster but unfortunately most of the toast ends up on the floor...the toast is ejected so hard that most of the toast ends up on the floor...not happy at all...for that kind of money...

Absolute garbage steer clear – If you like half your toast black and the other half undercooked then this is the toaster for you! Toasters have been around for how long now? And somehow Smeg can screw it up that badly? Either the toast is unevenly cooked, the whole toaster shorts out the power or if you're lucky to get to the stage of buttering your half black toast you're picking it up off the ground because the toaster shoots it too high out. Waste of money, stops working just out of warranty – So unhappy with this purchase. I loved it for a year and still love the look but it stopped working properly just outside of warranty (of course), only toasts one side of break and takes forever to do that one side. Previously I had a cheap toaster, about $15 from Kmart, for about 10 years and only bought a Smeg toaster because I wanted a toaster to match my Smeg Kettle, but not the best move I see.

Before it would trip the circuit though, the bread would always get stuck, literally every time I toasted, very frustrating and even on the highest setting I would need to put the toast in twice to get some colour.

So disappointed! – My husband bought this toaster, I would never have after reading reviews. It lives up to its reviews!! Toast is burnt on one end and undercooked on the other.
