Didn't last 2 years. Cheap but Junk – Stopped turning on after 2 years and very minimal use. Won't be trusting this brand again. Expect a tv to last longer than that! The features and screen display were good but no choice to repair or replace. Can see why it has been discontinued. Show details
Flashing green red white yellow black on screen – We had an power outage in my area for 4 days, when power was restored I turned my television on and it is disahing red then green yellow white black on screen. Has anyone had this problem with their soniq tv model #S55UV16B-au and how can I fix this problem. Thank you Show details
Amazingly good value TV but depends on your needs – Purchased this from JBHiFi a few months ago. The price is hard to beat for the size of screen. The picture quality is 4k resolution, sharp, bright and colourful, but it's not going to match a screen 3-4 times the price, it lacks many of the image / motion enhancement tech in other brands. Sound is nothing special, but if you use a good soundbar… Read more
it won't matter, like most tv's.
Functionally it has ample connections for ethernet, hdmi, usb, etc and it also has Smart TV function - sadly that's the real 'devil in the detail' - the 'Cinevision' Smart Menu is also the home screen, for selecting source/channel/web/apps/program guide/settings/etc. It's the first thing you see when you switch on (after a 30sec warm-up logo + loud beep sound). Using regular Tv functions will need you to use this menu which looks and works like a dialup BBS from the 90s, complete with lots of ads that can't be hidden. The menu is glacially slow, and takes 2.5-3.5sec to change live TV channels, vs less than 1sec for most branded tv's.
There are only about 15 Android apps available to install, and only ABC/SBS/Netflix for streaming TV. You can load more via use, but the version of Android 4.4 is from 2013 and doesn't work with most media apps used today (Soniq does not offer any TV software updates at present, either via the menu, website or with tech support)..
The only real option is to plug in a set-top box, like a modern Android TV box (Shield/Xiaomi) or Fetch TV box. That way you will get all the Smart features, slick fast reliable menu and ample 4k content as you would get with a more expensive TV (eg.from Sony or Samsung), and you can bypass using the insufferably unusable TV features altogether.
It's ok it's not the top of the line but it's ok – It just doesn't have enough HDMI ports in it and the picture quality could be better . For the price though I guess it's worth what you pay for though so Show details
Yeah, I wasted my money so you didnt – It's smart for what it is, being it knows how I hate ads, but shows them on the home screen when its connected to the WiFi. Can't access my SMB server from the included VLC app, so no movies. Android 4.4.4 is very outdated, even for a new TV. It wouldn't install apks from your usb stick, so I couldn't use Kodi at all. It has a decent flicker… Read more
across the screen every half an hour, and the bottom bezel has warped away from the screen.
Haven't tested 4k resolution as only device is a Xbox one (non 4k), but the speakers aren't the best either.
Returned this TV once, and bought the same but used from cash converters, and was the same problems, but the flickering was about every two hours.
Just shell out for another TV, or a 4k dumb TV if you don't care for smart features (like me)
Love it – We wanted a bigger tv and came across this on sale for $499. Great price for the size and features. Can watch youtube, netflix and can surf the web. I haven't found any downfalls with it so far. For the money it is a great buy. Its light so easy to wall mount as well. Definitely recommend if you dont have thousands to spend but still want a bug, decent smart tv. Show details
It's alright – I own a Soniq TV, I do have some challenges with the remote, often the sensor is very weak and I have to go up close in order for it to work. I hate having to wait 20-30 seconds just for it to change from its home screen to a channel I left it on etc. If this is your way of brain washing me then its clearly not working. Show details
Soniq are not worth the money – I just bought a 55inch Gold smart soniq TV from JB Hi fi. Soniq UV16B 55" 4K UHD Smart LED LCD TV. I have downloaded the netflix app and the SBS one in the marketplace app provided on the device. However, there is nowhere to go to download Stan and 9now and 10play. I want my smart TV to be fully functional or what is the use. I tried watching… Read more
the shows direct from the browser and it won't load, even after 15 minutes. I know it is not an internet issue because as soon as I went to Netflix it worked and as soon as I put the chrome cast in I could play tenplay on it. However, I have not spent $600 to have to use chrome cast for some channels and apps? I could use chromecast on my old TV which was not a smart one. So I emailed Soni8q and this was their reply.
Hi Chantel,
Thank you. This model is not known to support Stan, 9now or 10play. Apologies for the inconvenience.
Kind regards,

So my advice. Don't waste your money. Spend more and get a Hisense. I will be ringing JB next as the salesperson did not even discuss it even though I said I want smart TV to watch Netflix, Stan and catch up TV.
Value for money – Great TV for the price. The picture is great for a cheaper TV. There are USB, HDMI and a few more ports available. The sound settings are adequate, as are the picture settings. The Chromecast is very handy for the family. Everyone has linked to it. Overall, a great TV for a great price. Show details
Good price but quality is not that good – I have bought this TV from JB hi fi last year before moving into my new house. The price is very tempting which is highly affordable for everyone. The problems of this TV are the picture resolution is not that high and turning on of this TV is very slow. Show details
Great Value – Was unsure about buying a cheaper TV but picture and sound is great and have had no issues at all. Chromecast is easy to use and everyone in the house is linked to it. Plenty of ports for what we need. JB staff were informative. I will be purchasing another for our family room very soon Show details
Keeps going wrong – I bout the original tv in 2014. The first tv screen burnt out within 6 months leaving black dots on the screen The replacement worked well until 2017 when the on off button broke. They took it in to repair it decided there was another fault and replaced Excellent I though but less than a year later ii had grey patches all over the screen.… Read more

Perfect – Purchased this TV for the parent inlaws. They love the size, the picture quality is pretty good for the price. Great for watching Foxtel or movies. I purchased it about a year ago, it has never missed a beat. Would recommend this TV to any one, looking to buy an inexpensive tv for the lounge room or even the bedroom. Show details
perfect 2nd tv – we bought this as a 2nd tv to be used in the kids' den and it is perfect for that kind of use. I wouldn't recommend it as a primary use TV but it is fine for watching cartoons, youtube, xbox gaming, etc., but not for serious movie watching. Bright colours are fine but black, grey, and dark colours can be very muddy and blocky. Really needs… Read more
extra speakers hooked up as the internal ones are sub-par.
overall it works great as a 2nd or kids' TV but you will want something better for your main watch
Cheap and nasty – This was a cheap tv, but I didn't think it could be as bad as it is. It's touted as a smart tv. It's not though. The few apps it does have don't work correctly, if at all. There is no way to add apps either, so you're stuck with a crappy youtube and file manager (which struggles to play modern formats). The picture itself is not bad, the… Read more
sound is terrible and it cannot do 4K 60fps, so is useless for hooking up to a PS4.
Good as a spare, cheap tv only.
Sharp picture, good quality/price – We got this tv about 6 months ago and pricewise this is a very good buy. Picture and color and very sharp, and for a flatscreen TV the sound is bold and not missing too much bass. The base of the TV though is a bit wobbly and the TV sways a bit when the aircon is on high, maybe we need to reposition it though. As for the smart TV part, we don't… Read more
use it a lot. It's android based and doesn't look really flash, but like i said..we don't really use it so we don't care much about that. All in all, price/quality..it is a good buy and we are very halpy with it
Great picture, poor 'smarts' – Picture looks great, especially when we stream 4K Netflix from our Telstra TV2. Speakers are adequate, although don't have too much depth at high range - obviously you're not going to get cinema-quality sound. Plenty of ports. Smart part of the TV isn't worth buying just for that - you buy this because its a cheap TV and combine with a Telstra TV, Apple TV or Chromecast Ultra to stream 4K. Show details
please do yourself a favour and avoid this brand – The picture quality claimed is all rainbows till you bting it home and plug it on. Its so poor that lcd tvs from 10 years ago had better picture quality.please understand "THIS IS NOT A SMART T.V" They have about 10 apps among wich only 2 or 3 work and you will never get any updates. In less than 2 years your t.v will be discontinued and they will… Read more
not send any updates or support for this product. Even youtube is not supported in some 58" models but claim to be ultra horrible smart t.vs.
Save some money and get a name brand. This company does not have even a reputation to live upto.

Great Cheap TV – This TV is very affordable for the size and quality of picture. It also looks pretty sleek and modern. The picture is great quality, vibrant colours. It has lots of ports (USB and HDMI). Audio could be a bit better and clearer. It takes little a while to start once switched on. Not the best choice at all if you want a smart TV with a lot of… Read more

Good cheap tv – The tv is very cheap for its size. It has a great picture quality for it value. The sound is good enough for a bedroom as long as the base setting isnt up too high. The tv is a great value tv for the price i paid from bigw in my area. Show details
Wonderful – The television is amazing. It has great picture clarity and easy to set up. It connects eaily to the internet and all functions are easy to operate. The only complaint is that the sound could have a little better quality for the size of the TV is sometimes sounds a bit tinny. Most times it goes through our 7.1 sound system so it is not a problem in that respect. The price was exceptional on a sale deal. Show details
Great value for money, but ultimately it lacks – The picture is fantastic in dark to moderately lit rooms, even with full backlight on it tends to glare a bit on a bright sunny day. The sound quality is really not that great, it has clear mid hi to hi frequencies, and no low mid to low frequencies so if sound is important, use your own sound system . Appearance wise, it's quite attractive.… Read more
The slimline frame looks sleek and unintrusive. The picture quality is adequate (if you're a stickler for black blacks then you won't fall in love with this item, but it's nice enough for the average person to enjoy undescriminately) .
Overall, if you want a moderately priced 55" tv, you won't find much better bang for your buck elsewhere... but there are definitely better 55" TVs on the market if you're willing to spend the money .
Great TV for the price – Picture quality could be a little better, speakers and sound are great. I have some issues using the apps on the television, typing is difficult searching apps like netflix is difficult as their doesn't seem to be enough controls on the remote. But still love the fact the internet is on the actual tv rather than need extra equipment. It has plenty of ports for all my accessories. Show details
Not great – Bigger isnt always better. Got a good deal i guess but its frustrating. Black squarish lines on picture. They look blurred. Went back to jb the tvs there had the same thing. They just told me its how its made and thats it. What can u do. I will buy a new one in a year or 2. Show details
Soniq S55UV16B ... the same as the 16A but just the B revision – First impressions? Bloody awesome! Well packed, handy box with easy open access. What I mean is, standing the box unright when you cut the straps allows you to slip the box 'lid" off. Don't cut the box tape like you normally would to open a box. The lid slips off but keeps the TV protected with foam. Its a little thing off the bat, but a nice… Read more
touch. I'll keep the box in the roof or something, it'll come in handy in the future I'm sure.
After unpacking, I hung it on the wall (separately purchased mount). It's 16kg on its own, so manageable on your own if lifting but obviously easier with a second person. Nice enough the Soniq came with 4 mounting screws on the mount points to attach to the mounting frame… handy to have because its always scary using 3rd party screws in case they go too deep and break something inside.
My only niggle is when you turn it on it takes a moment for the TV to actually 'load up'. A Soniq screen comes up for 15 seconds, and then a Cinavision screen comes up… another 15 seconds. So it's about 30 seconds until the TV is on and showing your chosen broadcast. Not a major drama, but I guess the Android system has to load up. Once up and running though, no complaints!
Once loaded up I was pretty happy with the standard image settings to be honest. I ended up changing to the 'warm' picture mode, and 'music' sound setting, but on the whole I'm very impressed with the image and sound. Remembering with any new TV these days, if you want awesome sound its best to have a separate audio receiver and speakers, but stock as is its perfectly fine in the family room. Doesn't sound too tinny, and volume doesn't seem to fluctuate (I have a 32" Samsung and when watching a tv show the volume constantly needs to be changed because you cant hear the voices, or the action noises are too loud).
Remote is an hourglass shape, light, and comfy.
Your most used buttons (volume and channels) are right where your thumb rests when holding the bottom of the hourglass. The 4 directional buttons surround the 'OK' button and are directly above the volume and channel buttons. TV Guide button is directly above the channel buttons. So nice logical easy layout. It's amazing how other TV companies can stuff this simple thing up completely. Again, my Samsung 32" has a very frustrating remote layout. TV guide button on that is completely separate, right down the bottom of the remote. Always hunting to find it when I have to use it.
Controls on the actual TV are hidden along the left hand bottom corner. Actually, all connections to and from the TV are in this area. TV controls are easy enough to reach, and popping the tv on standby if you're standing next to it is simply just feeling for the lowest button nearest the corner. You dont actually have to "look" for it. Above that button is volume, channel, menu, and source selection buttons. Nice.
TV connections are in the same bottom left corner (just further in), and angled side ways for easy access. Again, from the bottom up the order is Antenna, VGA audio in, 3 old school A/V coaxial connections for connecting an older dvd player or games concole, a USB3 port, Micro SD card slot, and then finally a USB2 slot.
Additional connections in this corner, but facing downwards and along the bottom of the tv, are (from the corner): Component video (3x), VGA, Digital Optical Audio Out, 2 HDMI connections, and an ethernet port.
All these connections (the ones facing left and down) are recessed back from the edge of the unit, so allow for tidy cable management if desired. My TV now "floats" on the wall. No cables to be seen anywhere.
In store the TV frame looks silver (silver top and bottom, black side slats). But bringing it home the silver looks more like a champagne/light bronze colour. I'm not sure if its picking up on the neutral coloured walls, but the affect is very pleasing. Straight shiny silver looks cheap. This off coloured very light bronze in dull finish is very appealing. Wont show fingerprints and looks lovely. The Soniq logo is discreetly coloured and bottom centre.
In regards to where to purchase?
Have a read of the warranty terms and conditions carefully on the Soniq website. They are of course written slightly different to confuse and make it a little harder to compare, but there IS a difference.
For instance, this particular TV has a 3 year warranty. Great.
But if you buy from Soniq, that warranty doesn't cover shipping back to Soniq (or authorised service center). And you certainly can't take it JB's if not purchased from them.
The good thing is buying from JB's means any JB's store becomes your return point. So take note of where the closest store is to you now- and ALSO where you likely could be over the next 3 years. Because shipping a big screen tv over any distance is going to cost you $$$ (plus packing it properly, and insurance). Going to JB's avoids that. Retail consumer protection is also a lot clearer when dealing with JB HiFi. Soniq direct means no shopfront to be able to go to, and most like an interstate flight to Melbourne if you want to speak to anyone face to face!
There are far more JB's stores than Soniq authorised service centers, so that alone should be enough to steer you towards a retailer purchase. Also, going into the store may get you negotiation leverage for free delivery. Online is locked pricing and locked delivery charges.
After the 3 years however, the service center is going to be your only contact for repairs (although consider your consumer rights and the potential to hit up the retailer anyway). For those living in the ACT, Tech1 in Fyshwick has been confirmed as an authorised service center for Soniq if that helps (I emailed them last night to confirm all the above, as no point offering a 3 yr warranty if its too expensive to get TV to them to inspect!).
I haven't plugged in the XBox yet, but watching HD channels over Foxtel and some Netflix, along with some digital free to air, and I gotta say I'm quite impressed!
I'm actually so impressed that I'm lobbying the 'finance minister' for her approval in getting another one for the bedroom ;).
At $600 with a 3 year warranty, I honestly reckon this 55" UHD TV is a real bargain.
I'm still planning for a 75" OLED in the home theatre in a few years, but for everyday viewing this thing is damn fine. It replaced a trusty old 50" Panasonic Plasma (which was terrific), but this Soniq has been a real surprise. Go give them your $600 with my blessing :).
Honest Good Value – What I like about the TV. Firstly look at what it is and you will not be disappointed. This is a JB-HiFi house brand unit, a basic 4K UHD 55" Smart TV and the features and colour meets my expectations and requirements. Don't compare this with the Big Brands which are in excess of $1500+ range as a minimum. Secondly it links well with the… Read more
home wifi for easy internet access for You Tube and Web browsing.
Others may have been disappointed with the number or the lack of apps pre-loaded on the TV.
But I combined the unit with a TV box/media player and used the apps that are already available from the TV Box and these apps was enough for me.
Thirdly, you can download updates for the system and add apps as needed to fine tune your TV to your requirements. For the techno buffs who wants superior picture quality and sound, this unit is not for you.
Lastly, it is great value for money for the screen size, refresh rate and resolution. Combine this unit with the TV Box and you will have a complete family entertainment unit that is very reasonable. When it come time for an upgrade in the future you know it will not break the budget.
Recently JB Hifi had a Wicked Wednesday Offer which I capitalised as I have been watching this TV for a while since before the EOFYs offer.
Original price for this model was $799 but was reduced to $599 which is $200 off.
With the Wicked Wednesday Offer, I got another 5% off the price.
Wicked Wednesday is free to join as it require you to register to the JB Hifi eNewsletter.
This particular unit comes with 3 years warranty as well, This was a bonus.
A well priced smart TV with that meets my everyday needs. Not a BMW or a Merc but a reliable and working Hyundai.
