Fantastic photo quality for camera price and size.. but prone to break – I absolutely love the photo quality of this baby workhorse camera. I have printed beautiful canvases from these images. I love this camera so much that I have recommended it to family and friends. The video quality is fantastic HD, much better than our Sony camcorder. Unfortunately this is when I realised that this wonderful camera, while… Read more

providing amazing image quality, is not a quality item. The first problem was when my zoom trigger snapped off. Thankfully this was repaired under warranty. Then a friend who had purchased the same camera had their screen crack; and another friend had their flash fried. Eventually my flash has also fried and no longer works. I still love this camera's picture quality and have had a hard time finding a suitable replacement that I love as much, but Sony really let down this corner of the market with the inferior quality for what would have been a "perfect" device!

Nice size but ponderous lens – I bought this after losing my Panasonic TZ60. The camera is a great size but is not as well engineered as the Panasonic. The zoom lens in particular has a mind of it’s own. whereas the Panasonic was a dream to use, the Sony is a nightmare when using the zoom. The photos are ok but again not as good as the Panasonic.  Show details

Best Compact Camera – I spent considerable time researching the camera I intended to buy. The following website was excellent: [link removed] My main requirements were: 1. Compact 2. Long zoom, say above 20X 3. Full HD video 4. Price under $350 if possible It came down to 3 cameras: • the Olympus SH-50, 16MP- 24X • the Canon Powershot SX700, 16MP – 30X •… Read more

the Sony Cyber-shot HX60V, 20MP – 30X

All 3 cameras looked to be excellent choices but the Sony came out slightly ahead in several areas. Finding one at the right price proved a little difficult until I was offered an excellent deal in a DJs in-store Dick Smith. The camera exceeds all my expectations. It takes superb full HD videos with good shake reduction and beautiful sharp still shots.

The zoom is unbelievable with 30X optical giving you amazing close-ups. In daylight you can safely zoom up to 120X digital which gives me a closer view of distant objects than my binoculars! If you back off a little, the slight graininess disappears and the shot is incredible. For example, the first time I tried it, there was a wedding taking place on a river bank about 500 metres away. Without zoom you could just make out a small crowd of people. With 30X zoom, each person in the group was visible individually and at 120X you could see the bride and groom’s faces albeit a little grainy.

Using PlayMemories, Sony’s picture software on my laptop (came installed as it’s also a Sony) I can easily transfer photos and videos to my laptop then create slideshows on my TV (another Sony) by connecting an HDMI cable.

The camera ticks every box for me and it will take me months to try out the huge range of special effects and photo formats it contains.

By the way, it fits into a $5 Crest BigW camera case and slips into my pocket. I can’t find a single fault in this camera.

Great Camera – Just picked up this camera, this is a great camera. Optics are great and the video, especially the stabilization is amazing. High ISO noise is rough, but can to made much better in photo software. The 30x super-zoom does an excellent job. Auto-focus is pretty fast. I carry this camera around with me all the time as my Street Camera. Great images and amazing video stabilization High ISO noise, not unusual for this size sensor
