Great value Soundbar, had this for about 7 years now. As long as you're not expecting the sound to be Cinema or Nightclub quality, it's fine
Better than expected – This sound bar is a lot better than expected. We have purchased a bottom of the market product, so our expectations weren't that high. We have been pleasantly surprised. I had read a few reviews that indicated that it was good to terrible. If you want something that rattles the windows and super high definition, this isn't. What we wanted was a… Read more
clearer sound for every day television, and something that integrated perfectly with our Sony Bravia flat screen.
The Sony HT-S100F has meet our expectations. Easy to install, pretty much you plug the HDMI cord into the sound bar, then into the flat screens HDMI ARC port. Turn it on and that's that. When the flat screen turns on it turns on. The existing flat screen remote adjusts the volume.
Two negatives, the unit doesn't come with a HDMI cord, which is the recommended connection. Another cord is provided but is not a recommended connection. There's a remote which is useless, a doven or so buttons on it that we couldn't find a use for. It can turn the unit off/on, and change volumes.
We purchased the unit from Costco
Great so far, very happy – Hubby and I bought this soundbar to go with our Sony tv (bravia) in April 2024. The good: - Super easy to set up. -Comes with everything it needs for instant compatibility with our Tv - The sound is smooth, well rounded and deep but true. - Good bass. Very good bass. - Clear sound that doesn't sound like its in a tin can - I love that it… Read more
has sound profiles for different uses. - Absolutely love the function to turn up dialogue and equal out loud noises during quiet movies so you don't have to crank it to hear people talking but then get blased with explosion sounds etc. - Totally love that its short enough to fit under the bottom of our Bravia tv. The two sit beautifully together and fit perfectly. - The connections end suits the same connections end of the Bravia tv, making it super easy to get the two appliances connected and not have to worry about cords reaching or running them along behind somehow. - Bluetooth worked perfectly first time with both our tv and later our Google Pixel phones- a 6 and a 7. - Black is unobtrusive, there are no bright flashing lights that are annoying etc. - Looks and feels well made
Things that could be better - The cord is painfully short. We had to run an extension lead and a power board to get it to even reach our power point. - Probably impossible to do, but I wish we could rig it so that we didn't need to use the 2nd remote for sound, I wish it could connect to the pre-existing Sony remote somehow. Saves having (ans losing) 2 remotes.
Overall its still early days but we are very happy with the sound and the purchase thus far. I will come back and update if something happens or it dies etc.
Who needs a subwoofer anymore? – Fantastic clarity sound without the need of muddy bass that drowns out the vocals. This is perfectly adequate for those who don't like listen at deafening volume. Easy to setup and no need to worry about the subwoofer taking space. If this model does not have enough bass for your liking, take a listen to the more expensive HT-X8500 which may suit your needs. Well done Sony, excellent bang for buck I say!
Good but only only lasted 18ths - After sales service disappointing - Buyer Beware – FINAL UPDATE 29/1/2021 This has taken so long not to resolve we have saved enough to buy a Samsung Sound Bar to replace the Sony HT-S100F that only lasted 18 months. We ordered it today. Sony's Customer Support department, despite numerous requests for assistance chose to ignore us for over 2 weeks so in the end we decided that buying a new… Read more
replacement would bring with it the risk of an equally unreliable unit and sub standard customer support.
Unfortunately we are no longer Sony customers and would encourage anyone reading this to think long and hard when it's time to make your next tech purchase. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
UPDATE 22/1/21 Having thought a bit about this situation and in light of the potential impacts that this could have on others trying to buy from Sony's Australian Website we re-contacted Sony on 15 January seeking an explanation as to why the price suddenly increases by almost 20% when we tried to buy a replacement Sound Bar.
Unfortunately, at the time of writing (some seven days later) they haven't responded and as such, with the exception of a miracle, sadly we are no longer Sony customers.
The only advice I can give if you is think very hard about your brand choice unless you only want your investment to last 18 months. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
UPDATE 15/1/21 So, we thought Sony had had decided to stand by their product and although wouldn't accept the warranty arrangement advised by their repair agent they did offer a 30% discount on a replacement. We later settled on 40% which were satisfied with and decided to take them up on their offer. Sony's website says $205 so we proceeded to place an order online. We couldn't do it and had to phone their sales dept as the "token" wouldn't work. We did and where told oh no, it's 40% off the retail price which is $249! Nowhere on the webpage does it say that. That is, by any measure misleading and something that the ACCC would no doubt be interested in. So no genuine resolution, we did consider raising with Sony again but have decided we would be better of moving on to another brand with some integrity and a reliable product

UPDATE 6/1/21 We contacted another authorised Sony repair centre (provided by Sony) who were very helpful, agreed that it should not have failed so soon but us that parts are not available. However, they confirmed that the unit would be replaced under an "Exchange Warranty" which we were very pleased with. Faith restored in Sony products. As it's difficult for me to drive to the repairer to drop it off they told us that if we contacted Sony direct, told them that the repairer deemed it an exchange warranty and they would replace it directly.
I contacted Sony this afternoon to arrange the warranty exchange as advised and was refused. We were offered a discount if we bought it from them. So at the end of the day we have learned that the product has poor service life, there are no parts available and if you want a replacement when it fails you will have to buy one. After many years of brand loyalty we very disappointed with Sony, their product and after sales service. Buyer beware.

REVIEW Bought from the Good Guys May 2019 and worked really well until about 2 months ago when it completely failed. Nothing can bring it back to life. Phoned Sony who gave us a repair shop but they want about $200 to repair it (we only paid $194!) plus they are 35km away and I cant drive at the moment due to illness.
Good Guys understandably not interested. It was good while it lasted. We bought Sony to match our other TVs/Hi Fi etc but would have thought it would have lasted more than 18mths.
Don't think we would get another one even if we could afford it.
Affordable quality – This item was bought on Kogan and arrived in two days with express. It works well and sounds great. Works on Bluetooth, HDMI and optical cable. Also like that I can stream music from my phone when cooking or cleaning Show details
Good for the money – Compact & good sound. Quality of the sound is great, although it does lack in Bass. A bit more customisation to sound would be nice but presets work well. Good sound bar for the price. Show details
Amazing sound – I use this with my tv to watch shows, play music and even for when Im playing xbox games. I even more recently used it via Bluetooth to connect it to my computer to play music through. If I didn't think my kids would turn it up all the way on the other tvs I would have them for all the tvs in the house. Show details
Perfect sound bar – Using this sound bar with a 4k TCL television. Sound is excellent. Its advertised as having inbuilt sub woofer, and it does. This provides some extra bass but not too much. Show details
Good sound big improvement – Using this sound bar with a 4k TCL television. Sound is excellent. Its easy to set up, supports ARC via HDMI (cable not included) and also optical out (cable included). Comes with a remote, Bluetooth works well, overall a great product with great sound. Show details
Better than the stock TV speakers- not sure how much better though – Not an audiophile but I think this does the job. Looks good easy connectivity for my setup at least- I’m just using the Optical out from my PS4 to the soundbar. I don’t watch TV-tv anyways. The Bluetooth connection simple. There’s a clear different between the modes for example voice and cinema. Can’t complain- but again I’m only streaming Netflix… Read more
or Youtube in a 4m by 5m apartment living room. Probably better spend the extra $50 on a well know brand than on the Aldi or generic soundbars.
Great audio – Sure, we've never had a sound bar before but adding this to our new TV gave a superb boost to the quality of audio for music and for tv. Very happy with the price and product overall, including being easy to set up and use. Show details
