Buyer Beware – I purchased a Google Bravia 50” Sony TV From The Good Guys who gave me a 1 year warranty, and didn’t want to listen to my issues, they told me to contact the manufacture , Sony. When I spoke to Sony Support they gave me a two year warranty. The TV had had problems well before the 2 years were up. So I dealt with Sony, who sent many emails to… Read more

assist me to fix the issue with my TV. Eventually Sony sent out a TV technician who didn’t even look at the TV just spoke to me about my issues with the TV losing the picture and scrambling the colours all over the screen making it unwatchable. The Technician said that if I didn’t have the internet that the TV wouldn't work property and suggested that I get an indoor aerial. The Good Guys never mentioned that I need the internet to use my TV properly. So I thanked Sony for their help and went to purchase an indoor aerial. Which was worse. The outdoor aerial that my apartment neighbors use have no issues with their TV’s. I paid $1,650.oo I expected it to last more than 18 months. Buyer Beware. Maybe Sony’s top shelf products aren’t as good as they used to be. Sony can’t think much of their own products when they only give a 1 years warranty on a $1,650.oo TV.

Great picture. Poor software and support – Bought this TV 16 months ago after having my previous Sony for six years. The previous one was laggy and suffered from wifi drop outs and reboots. The delivery by Sony was a disgrace. Ordered online and two months later a damaged tv was sent. That was returned and a replacement sent but Sony use couriers that just leave your TV on the front porch.… Read more

Setup was good. Picture great. Speakers and sound shocking and so terrible. You need a soundbar. Tv software slow and sluggish. Wi-Fi constantly drops out. Using most streaming services requires a reboot due to freezing. Overall I won’t but Sony again as very poorly delivered product with far too many issues. Customer service is useless. I mean they can’t even deliver an order under two months. Not the Sony company of old. Will get Samsung next time.

Regret Buying – It’s not a bad TV when it works! Wi-Fi drops out all the time, TV picture freezers from time to time and the sound goes out of sync on a regular basis the operating system is clunky at best, must do resets all the time to get it working properly. I have now attached an Apple TV as it’s the only way I can use the TV without all these issues. Show details

Great when working – The Google TV is great, the picture is ok. It has issues though. Colour is definitely suspect, leaving faces looking a bit purple. Most annoyingly it cant hold a wifi connection for longer than a day. So you have to reset it daily. Not a very smart TV. Show details

Great TV, but no good for wall mounting – The TV is perfect as a TV. I cant really fault it. A major important and critical design fault is that this TV (at 75") cannot be mounted flush and close to the wall. I tried many slim line wall mounts and the TV leans out from the top. It does not look good at all. Sony should be honest and mention this in the marketing material, which mostly illustrate it neatly and closely up against a wall.

Great picture but has major software issues – Picture on this TV is great so no complaints there. However the TV is riddled with WiFi and software problems. It keeps disconnecting from WiFi and logging out of applications (Netflix, Youtube etc). The only way to overcome this is to reboot the TV (ie. power button for 10 seconds and restart unit). This is require almost every time the… Read more

device is turned on. Originally when I discussed with Sony they tried to blame my internet connection, however, I pointed out that other TVs (Samsung and LG) in the same spot do not have the issue. Eventually they admitted that the WiFi dropping is a known issue and they need to fix it via a firmware update. Sadly though they have no idea when this will be available, saying it is unlikely to be any time soon. Whenever the TV is turned on it comes up at the menu. There is an option in the settings that tells it to start where the last activity was, but it seems to ignore this.

With the current known issues not resolved I do not think this TV is fit for purpose and should not be sold!

Sony have now agreed that I can return the unit to where I bought it. However given it was purchased during some heavy discounting leading up to EOFY and can only get back the amount I paid for it. Of course now that we are past EOFY sales the price of this TV and competitors have increased significantly so I will be out of pocket hundreds of dollars to get another TV of similar specifications. Needless to say I regret having purchased this and will avoid Sony in the future.

TV not delivered after a month!!! – Bought 75' X90J online via eBay. Called Sony customer service immediately after purchase asking to update address from default to another one. They said everything is ok and it will be sent to the new address but a month later it's still not delivered!!! 5 calls to sony customer service, 6 emails via eBay to their support team and 4 calls with DHL… Read more

did not help. Everywhere I call I'm assured it's all updated and right and I should check in a couple of days, but the TV is still NOT DELIVERED after a MONTH!!! I would have rated a TV if I had it, but so far I rate hopeless and unhelpful (but very polite) Sony customer support.

Beautiful clear 4K display with smart apps – I bought this for a home theatre setup and needed a smart TV that could support true 4K HDMI 2.1 (not 2.0b). 42 inch was too small and 85 inch was too big, so we decided to settle for 65 inch X90J. After easily connecting it to WiFi and signing into the streaming apps (quick and responsive to the remote) the performance is stunning. Films and… Read more

shows appear clear, sharp with realistic colour reproduction, not oversaturated, excellent skin tones and deep blacks. The quality can be enhanced by IMAX or Cinema mode (press a few buttons on the remote) which improves and upscales to 4K real-time. There is also a Gaming mode that priorities frame rate and syncs with the PS5, so a nice bonus and games look great with maintained fps (up to 120 via HDMI 2.1). You can watch free to air TV using an antenna cable or the included apps. I can connect my phone or laptop screen in seconds for streaming using built-in cast and the quality is comparable to a wired connection as it uses its own apps.

Physically, build quality is sturdy and the feet are strong, preventing the TV from tipping over unless knocked hard. There are plenty of inputs on the back including analog RCA and HDMI x4.

In summary this is worth the extra spend over the X80J and below. Previous experience with Sony it should last many years without fault.

SONY - If I could give zero stars I would – Unfortunately bought a new TV from the Sony online store on 11 Feb - 7 weeks ago it stopped working and when turned on and off it had a vertical and horizontal line in the screen - so 7 weeks on we are still waiting for Sony to replace this TV - they just keep stringing us along - we have contacted the ACCC and tried to contact Sony in Australia… Read more

Great TV but has a wifi bug (edit- updated) – Screen is great- picture for the most part is superb, bright and sharp with decent blacks for no oled, but viewing angles are limited and picture will soon change off axis. Google TV system is great, very quick and lots of options. TV is relatively thick for a current model, but wall mounted still looks great BUT.......wifi keeps turning off,… Read more

have to do a soft reset (power button on remote for 10 seconds) almost every day in order to get wifi to stay on. SONY PLEASE FIX THIS !!! not acceptable for a brand new tv. Hoping a firmware will soon be released to fix this

EDIT- wifi has been stable for a while now, perhaps firmware has fixed this issue

Addition to review after year of use.

Still think this is a great tv for its price. Wifi has been stable but one big which hasn't been ironed out with firmware updates is the tv reverts to home screen when powered on despite setting to revert to last state used.. even when powering on using tv button it will revert to home screen after powering up. Then have to hit tv button again to get back to live tv viewing. Bit annoying and defeats purpose of last used setting and powering on with tv button.

Has great connectivity especially being an android user. Easily connects phone to YouTube or casting.

Picture is mainly great. Some halo effect around bright text on black background due to bigger backlight sections.. Screen does quite well with bright lighting from window behind viewing position.

Great warranty support from Sony – My first TV arrived with a smashed screen and Sony quickly sent me a replacement. I was extremely disappointed with this one as it had terrible screen uniformity and no pop and after a few months I complained to Sony about it. They sent a technician out to my regional area with a repacement screen (at no cost) and, after a 90 minute job, I had a… Read more

TV with great brightness and colour. The operating system for this TV (Google TV) is excellent and very snappy. Ambient mode is great for displaying family photos randomly from my Google photos account and having Chromecast built in is a BIG plus. It's compatible with Roon and Tidal (for you audiophiles) and can mirror my iPhone if required. It's a very smart "Smart TV" and after 18 months of use with the new screen, it's been faultless. Its only limitations are off-angle viewing and sound quality. I run my audio though a stereo and have a swivel wall mount, so neither of these are an issue for me. The warranty support I received from Sony was exceptional and I am very happy customer.

Faulty TV – Got this TV after much deliberation and was excited to get it, but after setting it up, it went downhill within 24hrs. The TV kept shutting off while trying to watch shows. We noticed that the TV brightness would dim for a second before turning off completely and wouldn't restart after. Only way to turn it back on would be to unplug it completely,… Read more

drain power and turning it back on. Even then the issue would return after restarting. Tried factory reset etc but no luck. Online search showed a lot of other customers having this same issue on Bravia models for a few years, so It's interesting that Sony hasn't fixed it even in a 2021 model still. Ended up returning the TV and buying a different brand TV instead. Luckily The Good Guys staff was helpful in making the exchange stress-free.
