My 2005 Ssangyong Musso Sports 2.9 turbo diesel does not shut down when I turn the key off. I'm not sure where the fuel stop solenoid is located but there are vacuum lines that go to what appears to be two solenoids mounted on the manifold that runs across the top of the engine. The engine would not shut down if the engine was cold and struggle to shut down when warm. I replaced the glow plugs and now doesn't shut down at all.

This is a common issue, and is easily fixed. You need to check the coloured vaccuum tubes running to the fuel cut off solenoid. Look for blue, green and brown ones, I cant remember which is the cut off system colour. The easiest way is to find another Musso and make sure your lines are all running to the same places, and replace any broken or leaky ones. The system is the same as the Mercedes OM 602 TD engine, so a Ero engine mechanic should be able to sort this fairly quickly and easily.

Hi all can any one help this has stumped my son who is a mechanic. I am losing reverse once it is in gear it is fine but getting it in to gear is hard. I have found if I leave it in reverse and turn off the engine it will go into reverse and if I am quick enough to turn the key back on and get the engine back running I have reverse. Any ideas where we should be looking? Thanks

My 2023 with 22k/ Km has an issue with the rebound control of the front shock absorbers on minor irregularities on sealed roads in regional Victoria. You can feel the front wheels continue to bounce ( oscillating) 5 or 6 times and shudder through the chassis. The rear suspension appears fine.

My 2024 does the same thing thats coil springs and the speedometer is set 6 klms faster

For those folks having vibration issues I had the same problem with my Colorado 7 years ago. After getting nowhere with the stealership a mate who is a Volvo truck mechanic suggested I get my tailshaft removed & rebalanced at a specialist workshop.$295 problem solved. I'm thinking of getting a new Musso and not put off by this issue as many D/ cabs same issue.

It's behind your glovebox, you have to undo two screws to get it out

Hi, I have a new Musso, loving it, only comment is the lag it has. Just a couple of comments to see what peoples thoughts are. Sports exhaust - is it worth it? Remapping - interested in peoples thoughts between the full dyno tune or the plug and play. Big difference in cost.

I've had my Musso for 12 months now and as I flick through the various display pages on the dash, sometimes you get a compass displayed and sometimes it doesn't. It seems to have a mind of it's own and doesn't seem to correspond to whether my Android Auto is active or not. My dealer is also nonplussed by it and wasn't even aware it had a compass display. Luckily, it chose to display itself at it's last service.....only to disappear the next time I went for a drive. Any ideas?

Hi I had the same question....before you start your Musso turn it on and wait till the head unit is completely on....then start and compass will be there every time

Thanks Dan for the heads-up. Tried as you suggested but still no compass. HOWEVER, I stopped the engine and restarted it immediately and hey presto....the compass appears!! I'll keep persevering with your suggestion though. Cheers Muddy

Hi I have a 2005 it is a farm vehicle and I have lost the key. I don't want to spend $$$$ to get a new key. Is there anyway to get it started without a key

Wyatt NL
Wyatt NL

hi to Cathy and to anyone else in a similar situation; you can get the musso going. Its a two step process. 1: get a key cut and 2: bypass the immobiliser. Step 1: take the passenger door handle off and take it into town to a locksmith. Get them to cut a key to match the lock. It may take them a few days. when i did it it cost me $70 and the locksmith was pretty excited to have achieved such a fun challenge.

now you have a key that works, but the immobiliser won't let you start it.

Step 2: The mussos in australia have an immobiliser added to the side of the fuel injection pump. Follow the fuel line out from the fuel filter into the injection pump and you will find the immobiliser. It has a cable coming to it and a tamper proof bolt, that can be undone with some vice grips and swearing. Once it has been removed, use the leftover parts to reconnect the fuel line without the immobiliser. you may need a longer piece of fuel hose and a few clamps.

Now you have a key that works and a car that starts!

Edited to add: the reason i suggest the passenger door handle for the locksmith: getting the steering cylinder out is ery difficult, a door is easier to take apart. The passenger door is rarer to open than the drivers door so if you put it back together badly its not too bad.
