Stihl GHE 355

Well worth it – Two years after buying a house with overgrown yards, this has proven one of my best buys. The fabric 'catcher', however, was a waste of money as an add-on. It might work if you're on level ground.
Great mulch maker – I've had this for about 6 months now and filled several compost bins with garden waste. It is fantastic for sunflower stalks, corn stems, apple tree and other small tree branches (including leaves, general soft weeds, parsnips, cabbage stalks, etc. Things it doesn't like : Oversized hard wood pieces or stems - it just can't get them into the chopping blades. It has a capacity limit - if that isn't big enough for your needs this is NOT the machine for you. Pumpkin vines and long tomato vines. They just curl up in the middle and jams. This I found disappointing as was one of the main uses I had. The solution - cut them into shorter pieces about 30 to 50cm) - usually they feed ok. Also try using chip function instead of mulch, the output is not as fine but seems to work a little better. You begin to learn just how happy or unhappy it is - do NOT feed it too fast or let is build up too much, it will clog and stop.
What do I like about it: It's tall. Yes you shove things into it but are nowhere near the triple blades. (I highly recommend gloves at all times). It makes small bits great for compost. It is electric and runs of my solar - no petrol needed and loud but not earsplittingly so. It works for most things I throw in it.
What is not good: Vines get wrapped and stuck. Needing to use a tarp to collect output - come on Stihl include the fabric catcher in the price. Time it takes to unscrew top when clogged. I get is 'safety' but tiresomely annoying.
Overall it is the most powerful electric beast I could find for mulching and happy with most of its output. Would I buy it again? YES.

Real time saver – I bought this after buying a smaller shredder from my local hardware store whilst the other shredder did work it was just taking so long to get anything really done so i thought i would spend the money to get a better one. It was well worth the extra money i have done so much more in the time it took me to part fill a trailer with the smaller one i have filled 4 trailers. Whilst the Shredder is very tall i feel safer using it as there is no chance of my hand getting anywhere near the blade .Its making short work of the olive tree pruning s that i have ..haveing 550 trees to trim its a rather big job as they have not been done in quite a few years and the branches have now been sitting on the ground for quite a while so they are pretty dry ,but its not haveing a problem at all and very rarely gets stuck and thats a big problem i was haveing before. Its also great for mixed soft shredding material as it has a second option for them
