Was great til now – Kettle was fantastic at first but at the 12 month point it just stopped heating. What is really funny is that you switch it on to boil the water and about five minutes later it beeps to let you know that the water has boiled! But it is stone cold. Kettle looks great and really loved the way you could dial the temperature for green tea. So… Read more

disappointed with sunbeam customer service, all we want is a replacement kettle. It would be great if it was glass or stainless steel but they refuse to listen and said that it is discontinued. It really was a great kettle but they need to work on helping out their customers as it was an expensive investment and I expected more that one year for the price.

Just tossed it in the bin – My partner bought this on special as she loved the glass - I was interested in the fancy 4 button temperature and keep-hot functions - but found them confusing for a long time - eventually got used to them. Got brown rings on bottom regularly - partner used lemon skin in jug of cold water overnight to remove them. Recently - after ?2 years… Read more

the switch got flaky - had to jiggle/rotate the jug on the base to get it to detect the jug.

The other night when I filled it up and was in the bathroom I heard a bang and a sizzle/whistle noise I rushed out to find water everywhere - guess it had boiled and 'exploded' out the top - the base was sopping wet and it had shorted out - no light - kaput - dead - finito.

Now we're looking for a new one - I'd go a $6-20 plastic which is fine for me - but she wants glass so we're looking at the Sunbeam KE9500 recommended by CHOICE magazine - fingers crossed it ain't as crappy as other reviews might suggest.

Brilliant kettle to begin with, but over time – Acquired this kettle as a gift a couple of years ago and loved it to begin with, loved the design and the temp control. Become a little saddened by the loss of quality over what seems to be such a short period of time though as, as seems to be more common than originally thought, the temp control works great for everything under 100 but on 100, it… Read more

just doesn't seem to switch off... lights up onto and off of 100 but takes way too long to actually turn off.... and then there's the leak between the glass and the plastic which can be unnervingly dangerous, considering the amount of other electrical appliances surrounding,,,, won't be buying similar again

I wish we could buy another! – We were given one of these as a present a few years ago and loved it. We drink a LOT of tea, and other than the minor leak, it has been great! Last night I slipped in the kitchen and the wooden chopping board in my hand went straight through the glass. We loved the design of the kettle and would love to buy another one, but I can't seem to find it for sale anywhere? Can anyone help?  Show details ·  1

Developed a leak – Sunbeam Glass Temperature KE9450 OK Yeah.. Nice looking kettle and performs well...however the kettle developed a leak after a couple of months . Very disappointing. Just a few drops at first. Progressively got worse. had to chuck it. Expected better from name brand like Sunbeam.Hard to buy anything that lasts nowdays.

Great at first – We bought our kettle a couple of years ago. We splashed out on this one as I like lots of different teas & my husband likes his coffee brewed at 90deg. It was brilliant for a long time until, as others below have experienced, the switch started playing up. It just started itself up of its own accord a couple of minutes ago & it often takes a… Read more

2 replacements in 3 years – First one simply stopped working around 2yr mark, Sunbeam replaced it as a goodwill gesture, which was nice given we expected longevity from an (expensive) kettle with the Sunbeam name. Sadly, less than one year later the new one won't switch off when boiling to 100 degrees- discovered with a burnt hand. Sunbeam Customer service state "You already… Read more

had one replacement as goodwill, our hands are tied" Really? This makes it a very expensive kettle if we're replacing them this regularly... ironically we pulled the $9.99 'Coles' kettle from under the sink that we had since my wife and I met (13 years ago) and are now using that :-( So much for sunbeam quality...

The best ever kettle - until now – This has been simply the best ever kettle we've had for the last few years. Love the glass and metal design, don't mind the beep (I know when its done), and best of all our filtered water is tasteless just as it comes. Unfortunately, the spell has been broken - now the switch has become tempramental and it switches on and off by its own will -… Read more ·  1

dangerous if its empty or the toaster is on at the same time! Sunbeam, this was your greatest kettle ever - please improve the switches and put it back on the market!

Won't switch off – I was given this jug as a gift just over a year ago - I don't have a receipt so can't return it. At first it worked really well, but now it will not switch off when it boils at 100*, it will switch off at the other temperatures, but as I use it mostly At 100* I now have to stand over it, which is very annoying.

Very good kettle spoiled by faulty switches – We have only had this kettle around 12 -18 months and find the switches are now faulty - usually have to press around 3 times to get it to boil, and sometimes it just comes on by itself which is dangerous if you haven't left water in it. The ear splitting beep at the end is annoying as well, if you are trying to make a quiet cup of tea early in the morning as it wakes everybody else up!

Leaks where plastic meets glass – This was a great kettle until it started leaking at the rim where the glass meets the plastic. Unfortunately my husband didn't keep the receipt from when he purchased it so we couldn't get a refund/swap. The kettle leaks every time it is used even if you try to push the plastic part down onto it. Very disappointed with this Sunbeam product and we will not purchase Sunbeam products from now on.

So disappointed, we love it but it clearly has a manufacturers fault – we bought our first one and less than 12 months later is began to leak at the glass panel. we were able to replace it and were told there would be no warranty with the new one once the 12 months was met. weve had the next kettle for about a year and a half and this morning the kettle began to leak exactly as the last one did. Soo disappointed,… Read more

I loved it but it hasn't lasted – Great kettle, quiet and works very well but after a year the on switch is faulty I have to stand there while it turns itself off 3-4 times before it finally gets to boil. Shame it didn't last as it was quite expensive when I brought it.

Another gadget I love!! – I have only owned this little guy a month so will be happy to jump back on again in the future to see whether I am still happy with my 5 star rating. The adjusted temperature options are very handy in my household as my husband drinks jasmine/green tea, i often like my tea at 90% so i can drink it straight away as having young kids if i make a cup… Read more

at 100 degrees i often find by the time i get to it to drink its only warm and i boil water for baby bottles. I have read this is other reviews but it is true, if u like ur green tea/jasmine tea then this is a must have.

You will never boil water to make this kind of tea again if you have the option to heat the water to 80 degrees which is just like the tea you drink at yum cha. It is a smaller cannister which may dissapoint some but we are a family of 4 with tea and coffee drinkers that visit often and its never a problem. For rare times i need to make 6 cups of coffee in one go ill just boil twice, its quick. I read some negative reviews of problems with the kettle not boiling properly but i have never found this. Its been fine of u follow the instructions and u must follow the minimal and maximum water levels. The keep warn function is fantastic keeping all temperatures except the 100 degrees at their temperature for 20 mins. Of course you cant keep the boiling at boiling!

So when selecting the keep warm function for the 100 degrees will keep warm at 90 degrees. The other thing i love about this kettle is that the lid and rim around the glass cannister is made from stromg plastic material. I have found with every chrome kettle i have ever ownedhe spout always starts to rust a little. Must be my waterm not sure but this cant happen here. Being a glass cannister you can very clearly see how much water you have in there. So overall im extremelly happy but i had to give my husband the 'tutorial' on how to use ot properly because otherwise i think he would just break it. Plus i hide itwhen my father in law visits as its all a bit too complicated for him and just being out the old kettle :-). I do feel overall its worth the money and i havent found the needd yet to have spent more on a temperature kettle with a bigger canister for about $40 more...

**UPDATE** nov 2014. Kettle still going strong. Very happy with my purchase and still highly reccomended. Easy to clean and scale when needed. As other reviewers have said once u have teas like jasmin tea at the correct temp you will never have it any other way. I do love the 90 degree option so my tea or coffee is drinkable immediately. No more forgetting about my cuppa only to find it cold!! Options for temperatures, keep warm function, glass cannister, plastic lid, small footprint

Love the kettle, but the beep drives my dog crazy! – After extensively reading reviews on this website, I chose to go with this kettle. It's great and I'm really happy with it. However, when it reaches the selected temperature the kettle beeps once. I don't know why, but it must scare the dog, who barks like mad, waking the sleeping baby! I've done a quick search and don't think you can stop it from emitting the electronic beep. Hoping the dog gets used to it...

Nearly Perfect Product – After nine (9) months of owning the Sunbeam KE9450 glass kettle, I (and my family) can say this is definitely the best kettle we have ever owned. I heats up quickly. It is quiet. It has no metal or plastic taste (take a lesson, Breville!). It has variable heat selection. It is smart (safety features) and user friendly (easy on, easy off, easy… Read more

selection). It shows almost no sign of wear after most of year (being used several times each day). And it looks very elegant.

We previously owned a Breville glass kettle, but reluctantly threw it out within a few months because no known method would get rid of the metal taste (yes, we tried lemon, baking soda, and many other "solutions"). We owned several plastic kettles but they developed deposit build-up within a short time (still usable, but scary). So far, the Sunbeam KE9450 has no build-up on the glassware. It has only noticeable discolouration on part of the bottom (likely heat marks where the heater is under that metal).

It's strange being "delighted" with a mere kettle. But that word best describes our feeling about the Sunbeam Glass kettle KE9450. Does the task (heating water) efficiently, quietly, safely, elegantly. None. Slight discolouration on bottom where heating element is underneath.

Had to have another one – Bought this kettle over 12 months ago and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately I used a descaler (sunbeam brand), didn't keep my eye on it and boiled it over and burnt out the base. Bought a cheap fill in kettle, but have just gone and bought a new one of these. Best kettle I have had, boils quickly, quiet and a space saver, as well as looking good on my bench. Everything  Show 2 replies

Love it! – Great looking glass kettle. Enjoy watching the water boil. Different from an ordinary kettle, this kettle allows you to alter the temperature and this does make a difference to the quality of the taste of tea. Extremely happy with my purchase. Am buying my brother one for his 50th birthday! Style, options of temperature, clear glass nothing

Unlucky or what? – I purchased this kettle yesterday and used it last night. Boiled it 3 times and this morning, nothing. No lights on at all and not working. We got a Sunbeam ! – We bought the KE9450 as reviewed here by others and we couldn't be happier. The KE9400 is part of the range and looks a bit more swish... Unlike some, I had read a fair bit about noisy kettles before proceeding and wasn't alarmed when our New Kettle ceased operating for 20 seconds or so. The quieter operation is attributed to smaller bubbles… Read more ·  1

being produced in this way.

In 3 months of use it has not appeared to become "louder" as some people have reported.

So the device works beautifully and is a huge improvement on it's predecessor - a cheap plastic thing that was years old and awfully discoloured by the time it was turfed out.

The Sunbeam's a beauty - no cleaning worries so far, looks just like it did when 1st opened.

By the way - a strong plastic smell lingered for some days.

We thought it was internal.?

Not so however - was merely in the contact area between the bottom of the kettle and the powered base upon which it sits.

Not something you'd need to fuss over; Just wait a while and the smell goes away.

Paid just $79 with Free Delivery for ours at zanui.com.au but not avail there when I looked again. Elsewhere it's around $85 best price now - still great value.

Next time for us I would probably buy the more stylish looking KE9400 - don't recall seeing that one a few months ago ( in different price bracket perhaps?).

Good Products Sunbeam...regardless of appliance.

And more than happy with our online supplier too... Thanks Zanui.

6 months in, it's still great! – I've waited 6 months to provide a review in case any early problems with the kettle were experienced. Problem solved! – I read the previous review about it not boiling water properly and nearly decided not to buy it as a result. rang me back and eventually together we worked out the problem.

The unit starts heating and then stops. So I would then cancel and restart to get it going again. If you keep doing this it doesn't boil the water.

What you have to do is leave it when it stops and after 30 seconds or so it restarts a boils perfectly. It also works the same way if you want to reheat the water to boiling (you have to be sure you have enough water in it over the minimum level or it won't start).

The reason why it stops is to reduce the noise of boiling which apparently is very high with glass units. The pause allows the water to circulate so that when it starts again you don't get violent boiling at the bottom of the water next to the element while the rest of the water is cold. It looks great, I can see exactly how much water I am heating. Unlike my previous kettle I can see if their is any gunk accumulating in the kettle, I can heat without boiling for milo, it maintains the temperature for 20 minutes if required The fact that it starts heating and then stops to allow the heated water to mix is not covered anywhere in the instructions or on the Sunbeam web site. They would do well to explain to their users what this is and why its done that way.

So compact and so cute – I purchased this kettle last week and am very impressed. It is so quick to boil, looks fantastic when it is boiling and is very quiet as well. I didnt ever think I could love a kettle, but I do!!! It beeps when it has finished boiling and it powers off when it is not being used. I would highly recommend it. Fast boiling, quiet, stylishly beautiful and compact. Not a lot, it was a bit pricey but it was worth it.

kettle was hot, it wouldn't re-boil. After trying a few times I was about to take the kettle back to the shop. But, I just used the base from my old kettle, and now I have a brilliant sturdy glass kettle. Considering the price, over $80, it isn't worth the money. But the glass kettle itself is sturdy, safe and quiet. strong sturdy kettle. Boils very quiet and lid has never come of. The base. I am beyond understanding how cheap and unworkable it is. The cost is not ok considering the base of the kettle doesnt work. If u boil once, u need to put cold water in it to make it boil again.
