save your pennys on buying panel heaters – Thank you for your answer it did help, if I put the heater in the small bedroom with door and windows closed yes after a time the room would warm up but any where else and it was a waste of time, so needless to say it is back in it's box and I have to find a place to store it, but I can see why he didn't like it. Would I buy another panel heater? NEVER Kath
Very happy with our purchase – Buying it and having it delivered was a trial.... The heater however is fantastic, it's easy to put together, very light so easy to pick up and move around, and heats efficiently and silently. We like the slimline styling and unobtrusive colour, some of the panel heaters look like they belong in a hospital. I wish there were more in stock. Oh did I mention it is silent ?
Probably the best you can buy-simplicity technology economy – Mica - find out about this natural forming substance, 500 to 900 deg celcius. It would take me hours to write how wonderful this substance is and how many things are made using it. Thermostat - I tested the three heat settings, don't forget to turn up the thermostat, 600 watt, 1200 and 1800.but there could be slight differences as with element winding,1800 watt is well within tolerances of a 2000 rated heater. The thermostats on these is basic well made mechanical long lasting and very good judged by consumer NZ.
Heating-
this heaters convection, (by the way, emitting infrared from both sides by about 20%) is massive,
on high you will burn your hand after about 7 to 10 seconds and i love that-.The infrared travels in a line of sight heating objects not air while the "convection" quickly warms the rooms air. huh best of both worlds.
Here we go- controversial subject time- all electric heaters are 100% efficient. lets go-
my answer sorry about the length. Eg An oil column heater as raved about by so many, holds the heat ( big deal ,you pay while it heats itself up- am i missing something? Yet this heater heats up fully in under 2 minutes ,no waiting, throws the heat right across the room invisibly (infrared) striking objects in its path passively at (20%) and convection silently at 80%. Look inside it- its on rails! the elements are sandwiched between sheets of mica causing the mica to emit a degree of infrared. It has two safeties a fall over and a high temp switch if you cover the vents (not a good idea) and you can see the safety inside through the grid with a torch(two inches down on the thermostat side, its a metal bolt on package about the old 10c size.
Efficiency yes i agree all heaters are at converting heat from electricity BUT...used correctly some are much cheaper to run- and some heaters cant apply the heat they generate to the environment in which there going to be used . Example a convection heater is useless outside and that's why farmers use infrared-because it only heats on contact(not the air)
- Now think all are 100% efficient-its true but you see what i mean.
A total infrared (radiant) heater indoors can be more dangerous as the rays can play on articles causing them to combust so i chose the Sunbeam Micathermic because i like a little infrared 20%, to warm me gently and instantly it touches me (as natural as the sun without the UV)and the safety and quiet of the powerful convection capabilities + the room size adjustments that can be made by adjusting the power out from 600-1200-1800-
I have two of them and recently purchased another for a friend.
The only thing i will add is that its portability , cost and versatility out does a heat pump ,however the latter
is considered more efficient than any heater due to its exchanging principles and its outside heat to gas ,collection unit.I really like the basic material beauty, functionality and design genius behind these Sunbeam Micathermic Heaters.
Disappointing – I bought this heater only a few days ago, I read the specification and it said it would heat medium sized rooms, I live in a unit and the living room is around 4 metres by 5 metres. This heater does not heat it up, it comes no were close, I had to check if the heater was working as the room was still cold..not worth buying..would not recommend.I also tried it in a smaller bedroom and it was not effective. It looks nice Not effective!
