Sunbeam StickMaster Platinum SM9000

SM9000 Sunbeam Stickmaster was great, however, water in the Chopper Attachment (as reported by others here) has rusted cog seats and caused one cog to strip. See photos. No longer spins when under any load. Unfixable. Definitely shouldn’t have gone in the dishwasher. Show details
Lid fills with water and can't be emptied/cleaned – The stick blender and whisk part work fine, no issues with the motor. However after only 6 or so months of use the lid of the chopper attachment started to fill with water (during washing, not during use). The lid design means you are unable to take it apart to drain the water, so over the next few months the lid continued to fill with water - you… Read more
can hear it sloshing around inside. Eventually the lid began to leak the disgusting brown trapped water out of the bottom of the lid, and became unusable due to hygiene/food safety. I contacted Sunbeam for a solution, and firstly they would not replace the lid as it was over the 1 year warranty, and secondly the advice I was given to clean the lid was to drill holes in it to drain the water. Absolutely ridiculous, clearly a product fault/bad design. If water can get in, then it should be able to be opened and cleaned properly, not drilled into! Now my whole chopper is unusable, despite the rest of the parts being in excellent condition. Sunbeam provided a third party link to buy a replacement chopper attachment, which I declined as I no longer trust their brand/products. I have now bought another brand instead. Very disappointing from a brand I have always supported.

Disappointed – Bought sunbeam stickmaster platinum. The chopper component broke not long after we bought it. I contacted Sunbeam and it was replaced given it was under warranty. Then Replacement broke on its very first use! Cranberries and water so not like it was something tough or over filled so very disappointing. Show details
Worked well until motor died a year after purchase – This worked well for what it was until the motor stopped working a few weeks ago. Due to the price paid, it's super disappointing that it stopped working, especially since it was conveniently out of its one-year warranty. Disappointing. Show details
Great Stick Blender when you know how to use it! – Great for pureeing soups. Good amount of attachments. Easy to use.Easy storage. Dish washer safe. Check out You Tube for a great demonstration on how to use the Sunbeam Stickmaster. Show details
Not good, not bad – The mixer does what it is designed to do. It has good build quality and is easy enough to clean. Nothing so far has rusted. The dial on top is not easy to adjust with the same hand as holding the mixer and requires the using the second hand which is generally not a problem. The blade cover has plastic on the part in contact with the food (BPA… Read more
free) which I think is suboptimal. Most other brands do not have plastic in this area. The sunbeam does come with essential accessories however the chopper container is too large for my use 750ml, although this depends on your use. Overall ok product, although nothing outstanding. Ok for the money.
Good product – Great features such as large capacity jug and chopper capacity and the soft start prevents making a mess in the kitchen. The product is very well engineered and easy to use in the hand. Love making dumplings sauce with this mixture- makes works so easier. Show details
Hard to use, average design and build – The buttons are difficult to use and I have large strong hands, I'm sure that many older people would struggle. The motor isn't a great locking mechanism on the stick base, you can easily get it out of place and sometimes it is difficult to lock in place. The chopper bowl is fragile and split after very little use. The spare bowl is about 30% of… Read more
what I paid for the whole mixer, just unreasonable. The support call was taken overseas, extremely difficult to understand the person, as much as they tried. They also want all my details just to tell me that they had no parts and to refer me on. I thought I'd buy a better appliance this time but it is actually not as good as the previous Aldi product and not supported as well. The last Sunbeam appliance I will buy. Over priced.
Sunbeam you have lost me as a customer – I purchase my first stickmaster about 4 years ago when that stopped working just after the warrenty expired, because I was a big fan of Sunbeam products I purchased another. Now that must have had the same fault as the first because that has now stopped working and is still under warranty. This time I am not even going to bother with the hassele… Read more
of getting it repaired. I'm just going to get a Barmix, I figgered all the money I am spending on Sunbeam I might just as well put it towards a expesive and more reliable make. Goodby Sunbeam.

Disappointing overall – Originally I had purchased a Braun hand mixer from the Good Guys. Due to a product fault with the Braun, and having no available stock I was offered the Sunbeam as a replacement. In comparison, the Sunbeam lacks power, takes too long to reach its highest speed due to the slow start feature and the handblender blade traps food making it difficult… Read more
to hand clean. The handblender does have a good twist Acton attachment, with better quality componentry in the shaft, but it only comes with a 12 month warranty. Over all, a dissapointing, lack lustre product.
Stick not spinning. Plastic bits in sauce – The silver stick blender attachment seems to be very stiff and not spinning like it should. I just made some sauce with it and ended up with lots of little bits of black plastic in it. The unit was a present so I don’t know where to go to get it fixed. Show details · 1
A very happy customer – Love this product-does exactly what I want it to do.Have used all attachments especially love the chopper. Saw this product at a cooking demo and was impressed so I bought it. Thanks Sunbeam --I am a happy consumer. Show details · 2
excellent finish on the outside, but its whats on the inside that counts! – I bought this blender SM9000 to smooth our pumpkin soup and make the odd dip. I would have only used it a dozen times in 3 years and it has gone "pop". I have not even used the other attachments. Very disappointed. I will read reviews now for any future purchases. Show details

Stiff shaft – The spindle shafts for the blender feels stiff, but I can't find a way to open it up to see if something is wrong or it needs lubrication. The motor labour's when it is used, so I don't want to burn out the motor, or strip the spindle engagement. What are my options? Show details
First impresssions - Update – I used my old Stickmaster the model before this one for 8 years. it never missed a beat. In fact it was only when I bought this later version to replace it that I realized that my old one had a number of speed settings on the top of the wand! I had been using it just under the 3 mark for all that time and never found it underpowered if I wasn't… Read more
using the turbo button.
That was the old one. This new one I am not at all impressed on my first try with it. First of all I had to replace it because I couldn't get the stick to click into the motor. Insert, twist, join the dots. Simplez. NOT. It was too hard- it just would not give me that satisfying 'click' of being locked in.. I took it back to JBHiFi and they agreed.
My biggest gripe with this model is that is is grossly over powered. I make a smoothie and the suction of the stick to the bottom of the jug was enormous! On turbo I couldn't raise the wand higher in the liquid without it splashing out everywhere. I had the same result when using settin number 2!
When I came to clean it I put some water in the jug in the sink and dipped the end in and pressed the button and the suction picked up the entire jug and spun it wildly deluging my counting top in waves of water. Waves...not splashes. I rarely complain that something is dangerous - I am all grown up and know how to be sensible and careful - but that really was dangerous: imagine if it had been hot pumpkin soup. That strong suction and rotation action would have had me severely burned. My old one was gentle enough to blend soup while it was still hot.It was an excellent machine.
Whydo companies change what has worked well for years. I am very disappointed indeed.
I am thinking of changing it for the Stickmaster Plus instead - maybe it won't be so aggressive.
Update: I have used this for a month now. I always end up with small lumps of banana in my smoothie - it just doesen’t Smush them all up. I think the housing for the blade is too shallow and bits get stuck there and evade the blades. If I persevere it ends up making my smoothie so aerated and too fluffy So ... defintitly not as good as the previous model.
Great product - does the job well – I have been using the Sunbeam StickMaster for close to 2 years now. I have not had any issues with it, does a great job. I use it for all kinds of things from crushing ice, to herbs and nuts, making soups and pancake mix. I like turbo option for a quick crush. Great value for money. Show details
Worst product ever! – I have had 2 in 3 months. First one just died after just using it once. The led worked but not motor. Second one just died now. Again but motor literally burnt out after trying to crush ice for smoothies. My last stick master lasted for years !?! Worst product I have ever purchased. After the slick blade and packaging this is just rubbish! I really want to rate it a 0! Shame on you Sunbeam. Show details
Gone through 2 in 18 months – The first one died after about 4 uses. The second died after 14 months.. I would expect a more expensive product to last longer. Don't waste your money! The tilt shut off is really anoying and doesn't blend that well either .. Show details
Versatile! – Absolutely versatile machine; comes with blender attachment and a handy whisk plus with a turbo boost, which is certainly handy if you want the extra speed. Quiet operation and very easy to use.
good product that does the job – Purchased this model to replace an existing stick mixer that had broken, so far has done what has been asked of it. Has plenty of grunt (700w motor), and blades are extremely sharp, as I cut myself while cleaning it recently without much effort. The one feature I quite like is the stainless steel outer for the shaft, unlike our previous one which… Read more
was plastic and and the end broke which risked getting plastic into the food. That said it does have a plastic lining behind the blade, but that is unlikely to chip due to its location. All up not a bad stick mixer.
Love it – After having a cheapo for several years that did not really do a good job, I decided to buy a better quality one. I bought this model but it was a Plus model so had the chopper, whisk and beaker with it. Could not believe how quick I got my soup mixed (about 8 seconds in the beaker) and then I needed to grate an onion (about 3 seconds in the chopper). Love the firmness of the handle and the 700W power. Love the turbo button. Show details
OK, but not as good as expected – Good variable speed with slow start most of the time. Turbo mode has no slow start, so a bit of a shock and can be dangerous when accidentally pressed when mixing hot liquids. I'd love to be able to permanently disable this unwanted feature. The whisk is a bit ordinary and not much better than a manual whisk. Quite heavy, but feels sturdy and does… Read more
the business. Reasonably quiet compared to cheaper models. Tall, so can do large amounts of soup or whatever you want to blend. Chopper bowl is great for nuts and other small herb/greens jobs.
Edited after more usage to make the turbo function a bigger negative feature. Added comments about chopper bowl.

Dissapointed with Ease of use of Stick Mixer – I have had 2 Sunbeam Mastro stick mixers previous to this one and bought this new one from past experience. They went for many years and were very easy to use.Had both of them for over 10 years and bought a number of them for gifts as i found them so valuable in the kitchen. The SM900 is not of the same kind - the Mastro had a simple 2 button… Read more
push to separate the stick from the motor and could be easily done with one hand .The new one is a push in twist & click action which is a difficult two hand action you often don't click it the final bit as it is so hard to obtain. Also the speeds on the top are not readily seen if you are in the short side like myself .
As to its performance it is okay but as i don't enjoy assembling it i don't use it as often perhaps as i could

Tilt Protection Poorly Executed – Would not reliably start as superfluous tilt switch was erratic & sometimes prevented unit from starting even when upright. Another crazy safety protection idea to protect stupid people from themselves, but has ruined the usability of the item. Took it back for refund as poor design will mean long term unreliability.
Great item turns off if you tilt it about 30 degrees – Ironidally this machine is actually very good, runs sweet, has variable spped dial and comes with good accessories, has plenty of power, but.................it has this anti tilt switch that when you tilt the machine whilst running it turns it off as a safety device. I think i read that when it gets to 90 degrees it turns off - well our turns off… Read more
at about 30 degrees tilt and can take quite some effort to get off tilt and run again......great idea but not well executed. Dont buy this machine - there are better options.
Very dissapointed – I recieved the unit as a gift. It worked the first 10 times I used it. However, whilst making frosting today it sparked and died. I am really upset because we can't just go and buy a new one and I need it for my daughters 1st birthday in two days
