Suzuki DF5A
VerifiedMPN: DF5A1 review
Manufacturing fault results in disappointment – If you read reviews for the other outboard engines in this series (DF4, DF6) you will see they suffer from a manufacturing defect of a stuck exhaust valve. I bought this outboard second hand but it had done NO work as it was an auxiliary on a large boat. It was stamped 2017 manufacturing date. Lucky if I got 5 hours before it failed with stuck valve problem. Extensive damage to engine. Service agent was initially reluctant to acknowledge the 5 year warranty as I'd bought secondhand. Suzuki Marine Australia eventually agreed to repair under warranty when told the owner was aware it had a manufacturing defect. Looks like it could be a good outboard but its reputation is sullied by this fault that doesn't seem to have an easy fix.
