Better features of better known brands at a fraction of the cost – Owned this tv for over 3 years now. Picture quality is amazing sound is awesome will give most better known brands a run for there money. Android tv interface: we have Optus sport, Disney, anime lab google play and Apple TV all as an app on the tv. Much much more to download if you want to subscribe to more. the tv restarting. One with the tv not loading.
Two calls to tcl customer service both sorted in one phone call.
Fantastic company fantastic products fantastic support.
TCL Ultra HD 4k 65" Tv. not worth the packaging – TCL 65" hd4k tv blah blah its absolute crap. I would of honestly rather bought a old tube tv. The quality 4k?? soniq produced better quality in there plasma TVs 10 years ago. Not worth the phone call it took to arrange delivery!!! Never again
Excellent for the price, reliability bad – Excellent TV for the price. Has a nice 'Cinema' picture mode that removes any imperfection of video quality. It does beautiful magic and it is nice to the eye. I have a soundbar (bought before TV) and I rarely use the soundbar now, because this TV has excellent sound. It ticks all the boxes. The best TV I ever had. CPU and Android OS that runs… Read more
TV is fast. No lagging in using Android TV.
Only one small negative, when the picture moves to all pitch black, you can see an uneven distribution of the backlight. However, I do not complain, because it ticks all other boxes and the price is excellent.
Update: 2021 TV Started flickering on one side. Cannot use it. No response from TCL support. Disappointed.

POOR PRODUCT & SERVICE – Purchased my TCL 70C2US Model from The Good Guys in February 2018. I also purchased an extended 2 Warranty from them as well. I paid $2,294.00 all up. Although the processor has been slow on start-up, the television has provided otherwise an excellent picture and I've had no problems....UNTIL.... the other night out of nowhere a "drop box"… Read more
appeared on the screen with the message "Switching To Restricted Mode", then another small "drop box" appeared at the bottom left corner of the screen with the message "Safe Mode". I took little interest at first, until I wanted to switch on my YouTube App which is a factory pre-installed app on this Model, and I soon discovered that the Home (Menu) button was not doing anything. I was stuck on "free to air" channels only. I started pressing all the blue buttons on the remote and those little coloured ones as well, but nothing was happening. After about half an hour of reading the User Guide and Pressing Remote buttons, the television automatically switched itself off. I couldn't believe this........ I turned it back on, but could still only get "free to air" channels... Each night it switches itself off at approx 9.50pm .....so annoying! I have since been on the phone to TCL Customer Service who are useless and extremely hard to understand. After a day and a half, they had patched my problem through to their Authorised Agent near where I live, and he wanted me to try inserting a code by using the Home button, but because the Home button does nothing, I asked him to do the job, but they want the set back at the Workshop, and this cannot happen unless TCL authorise it. I have now been in contact with TCL and after 3 days, I am still no better off and have no full service on my TCL set. My last conversation with TCL stated that there would be a 48 hour waiting while their Compliance Officers follow-up on the Agents contact with me. I was also told by the Authorised Agent at the time, that because I had admitted to TCL during my phone discussions (they record these calls) that I had been pressing buttons on the Remote, my Warranty would now be worthless ...they call it "user induced damage". CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS from a supposedly Global Electronics Company? I am fast losing patience and am considering further action .....on advice from the Dept Of Fair Trading.
Pretty good for the money – For the price range <$1000 for 55" tv this is a good deal and probably the best on the market for the price. The screen quality is good and it appears to have a reasonably wide viewing angle both horizontally and vertically. There are a few minor issues where it falls down most notably the settings/start up time issues and the reduced range of… Read more
apps.
Also before making the jump to 4K make sure your other equipment is ready - the image quality is crisp, clear and very high res. If the video you are playing is not HD then all the imperfections will be a lot more visible. This is not an issue with the TV.
It has a few issues (mentioned below) that are a bit annoying hence 4 stars. I am hoping that some of these issues will be resolved by software updates.
Note: 'Instant Power On' mode is turned off by default! Without this it takes just over a minute for the TV to boot into a usable state!!!! When 'Instant Power On' mode is on it takes just under 7 seconds to boot. (The TV sometimes forgets this setting if it loses mains power or receives an update)
See bottom of review for instructions on how to turn on 'Instant Power On' mode.
Pros
- 4K definition. In store the quality was noticeably higher than on other TVs in the same price bracket.
- Some Google Play Store Apps available such as Kodi, YouTube, Spotify, Netflix, etc
- There are free apps in the that can play media straight off NAS (Network attached storage) such as Kodi.
- Sound is actually pretty good from the TV its-self I was quite impressed. (I use the tv with a 5ch surround amp so normally have tv sound off)
- Wide viewing angle both horizontally and vertically before noticeable drop off in quality.
- I considered/am considering whether or not to get another one to replace my computer monitors!
- Has good depth of colour. Several other TVs in this price bracket looked very washed out.
- The picture is good and bright
- The interface seems quite quick
- Even in 'Instant Power On' mode it doesn't draw much power when off.
- TV can connect to WIFI or wired ethernet.
Cons
- It forgets some of its settings if it; loses power, installs an update, feels like it! This includes volume, quickstart status and timezone! (Probably the most annoying issue)
- Keyboard entry isn't great with the controller. It does have voice control but apparently that requires an extra bit of hardware! I haven't tried plugging a computer keyboard into it yet.
- A built in mic for speech rec would have been handy. Annoyingly one has to purchase a separate thingy for that.
- The range of play store apps is significantly reduced. I would like to have seen the Chrome web browser (TV is more than powerful enough to drive it) and other apps such as Skype would have been great (That would have required a camera though).
- Non HD media looks pixelated as the tv has to upscale everything. This can be improved by by reducing the sharpness setting and is not an issue with the TV any more than trying to watch an old VHS tape on a plasma tv was in the early 2000s!
- Not sure how well this tv will fair without a network connection.
- Packaging is awful. It takes 2 people to get it out of it's box safely and put on the legs. Make sure you unpack it near to where you want it. Once out of the packaging I doubt even with several people helping I would be able to get it back in! Note the two plastic straps hold everything in do not cut until ready!
How to turn 'Instant Power On' to On:
To turn on 'Instant Power On' press the button on the controller that looks like a house (top left of the arrows), using the down arrow on the controller go to the bottom where the settings, select settings, then under power options setting select 'Instant Power On'.
Note: Pressing the settings cog button on the controller brings up a sub set of settings that does not have power options!.
9.3/10 for this Smart TCL TV – Featuring Android built in, the TCL 49C2US is one of the best TV's I've owned. Beautiful picture, reasonable sound (hence the 0.5 difference from 10) and the functionality are second to none. This TV was purchased through Appliances Online at a smidgeon under $1000. Even better is the fact you can use your phone to link with the TV and use Google… Read more
Assistant to find apps, games, etc and control the TV with your Android phone. And the fact it has its own built in Chromecast is even better. I also like how thin the TV is. Unreal how they fit so much into such a large thin screen. And there are plenty of ports from HDMI to USB and so on. The Android store has a few dozen apps, nothing more and some apps like racing games can only be played with the TV Remote making it near impossible to steer a racing car. My only other beef with this TCL TV is it's average sound in the built in soundbar, even adjusting to various sound settings still sounds tinny. My only other issue is it's boot up time. Unlike other TV's where power up timing is usually a few seconds, this TV seems to take around 20-30 seconds to boot up, showing a Android screen doing various actions and loops before the TV stations begin. There must be a way to make this faster as its really annoying sometimes. (This is the other 0.2 points loss). Otherwise, it's a great quality high picture TV for the budget conscious.

Budget Tv With An Great Picture – Spent a few months shopping around comparing between Hisense, Sony, lg and TCL. Luckily, I come up with the TCL C249US that meets every single of my needs. I am so happy to have it, picture quality is great, sound is above average (still may need a soundbar but it does a good job). I love the Bluetooth connection function that is super convenient Android TV is quick and works fluidly. Show details
Best TV ever for the price – A lot has been written about this TV already so I won't go into the specs but, instead, relate my experience with it. This TV rules. 4K videos look great on it. The audio is loud and rounded enough that I don't need a soundbar. As we speak I'm listening to the greatest hits of No Doubt on it. I spent a lot of time with the different video settings but, really, the default ones suit me fine Show details
Incredible overall and great value – I was looking for something big for our bonus room to watch movies on and play games. I wanted something that could handle the latest game console technology. This set it so good. The picture is immaculate. The game response is stellar - make sure you use game mode. The sound even surprised me - so much better than my old set. Roku makes everything so much fun. It doesn't even seem like TV, seems like a huge high end computer monitor.
Since we've gotten it - I've been upstairs late at night playing games almost every night. I had to upgrade my Xbox One S to the X to take full advantage.
So much fun.

start up timing increased over first few weeks within 3 months continually switched off and restarted – Purchase from JB HIFI as recommended by staff just before Christmas. with in first few weeks noticed start up was taking longer and longer emailed TCL incase it needed a firmware upgrade was told it was normal. now approximately 3 months into ownership (only using for at most an hour a day) the tv turns off and restarts itself constantly so have… Read more
had to switch off at wall. can't use the TV.
we have also had issues with internet connectivity during the 3 months of ownership but not on our other Panasonic tv's.
TCL customer support very unsupportive, the repairer they have organised bordering on Rude/aggressive when contacting us. JB HIFI unwilling to help despite how recent it was purchased.
We are now being told that it has to be taken away and have the motherboard replaced.
You will have to uninstall the TV and reinstall once repairs are finished. be aware that the repair won't do any of this as we have just been told by him.
when asked how long it will take we were told by JB HIFI that they are really quick now and it will take 2-3 weeks approx. really quick to replace ??? 2-3 weeks??? I would think within 7 days is quick.
I was also told that once the motherboard is replaced it will be like a new tv and to think myself luck, how would you feel being told this?
Not worth all this hassle should have stuck to the bigger name brands like previously instead of being lead by the sales people at JB HIFI. NEVER AGAIN
Please make an informed choice and steer clear.
Plagued with problems. TCL nightmare service. Avoid – This is by far the worst TV I've ever purchased. Within 12 months it started to malfunction. It would stay stuck in load screens, randomly stop responding to the remote, freeze and would eventually start turning off while watching. We returned it to the retailer but TCL were a numbat to deal with. First they delayed examining the TV for weeks.… Read more
Their technician admitted there was a major fault and would refund but head office refused to honour this.
Then they claimed we were 'only entitled to a replacement under ACL' which is a bald faced lie if ever there was one. We told them we'd take them to small claims court, before they finally relented and offered the refund that was lawfully owed!
Two pieces of advice: never buy TCL and if they try to avoid their obligations then take them to small claims court!
I like its operating system – Good sound quality.satisfied with the quality of the picture . T has everything i expected on my Budget. The picture is great to look at. rich colours, good contrast superb detail and no dead pixels! My one has 2 USB inputs as well as 4 HDMI ones which makes it so much easier when we want to plug things in. Definitely great value for money Show details

Clunky, slow and average quality – Purchased for the kids room and for its purpose it’s ok for them to watch youtube and movies. The android OS is so slow and clunky it makes me so angry when I have to use it. Feels like it’s a beta software from 5 years ago. Had many issues with it going in to shop mode even after firmware upgrade, loses wifi settings, sound is terrible from HK soundbar built in. Will never buy tcl again, just an awful clunky TV. Cheap with problem after problem – Had seen reviews being positive but utterly disappointed. Less than 3 months in. Internet connection warnings plastered on screen that won't go away. Channels disappearing and buttons working when they feel like it. Updates are ridiculously lengthy too! Having to reset the TV time and time again just to watch basic tv. Show details

good function, the satisfaction of the general.
4. The port of the device is still quite adequate, the ports are basically all, more comprehensive.
Not bad for an el cheapo – This is no Sony or Samsung but it gets the job done with a few caveats. First audio quality - not the best you should think about getting a soundbar if you pick one of these up, next channel changing speed - not as quick as you may like so know this. Apart from that the actual picture is pretty darn good. Nice colours and good dark separations. Like I said, no Sony but its cheap and not bad at all Show details
TCL C2 Series – I like its operating system, very simple, in the application can also customize their favorite is also very good, product features/controls and performance I am very satisfied have Bluetooth words will use more convenient, sometimes I like to watch TV at night, this will be a very good choice Yes, enough Show details
Budget TVs – When I first started the TCL smart TV, I saw what they called the home page. Unlike most other manufacturers, TCL provides it directly before my input. Because the smart function only presses one button, it is very intuitive. It brings together everything available for free, purchase or lease. Overall, it's tough to beat them when it comes to budget TVs, and that makes them a pretty safe bet. Show details
Great tv for kids lounge – Works well in all areas. Used in upstairs for kids and friends to watch movies and play games with friends and family. Great value for money – Great tv good sound quality, you can connect your Xbox, DVD player easily for a cheaper brand it has great picture quality it does lack the screen saver so don't pause video or games to long as burns image to screen but overall it is great value for the price. Show details
a little frustrated – Picture quality is fine, but the drawbacks we have discovered are: The TV itself takes soooo long to start up We have experienced significant and very frequent lags and freezing when using it with Netflix and Stan - I wonder if anyone else has had similar problems. Overall, although a very affordable TV, we are certainly not completely happy with our purchase :( Show details

Great features but poor image quality – This TV was purchased mainly because of it Harman Kardon sound bar. The sound is probably the best ive heard from a flat panel tv with nice bass and balance. But, its a BIG disappointment that all this is kinda useless and let down… Read more
but its very poor picture quality. Blacks are the worst i've ever seen on any flat panel tv and would defiantly NOT recommend this tv if you are planning on watching movies. The screen has very bad backlight bleeding to a point where it makes watching movies very annoying as on the darker scenes you can see white light all over the edges. I've had this TV for only 2 days and already want to return it and this is a real shame as everything is great apart from the image quality. Always had Samsungs and this was my first time buying a TCL and not sure if ill be getting one again anytime soon.
TCL customer support was very good, i contacted them stating the problem and they asked me to email them some pictures of the screen so they can issue a refund or change. Lets see how this turns out.
