I have had this mower for 4 years, and lately it's barely cutting through 20% of the yard as the battery life of the lead-acid batteries is now seeing its final signs of life. Saw a comment from Paul L (Thanks), who suggested a Lithium upgrade where he built the battery himself. After doing some research, I found a battery wholesaler that has a… Read more
40ah lithium battery that can handle the rated load and that will fit into the existing housing under the seat. The upgrade from 24Ah lead acid to 40Ah lithium is unreal, definitely worth the upgrade I can mow my yard many times over on one charge and even cutting thicker grass. Measured a max current draw of 50amps when cutting thick grass with the new battery eating it up. All parts used were off the shelf at under $900 total with a 1 hour install time. Hit me up and I can send you some links for the products used. Definitely worth the upgrade, this mower will continue to slay for years to come and much cheaper then a OEM lead acid battery replacement would 100% recommended if out of warranty.
Brilliant Little Mower. Got mine 4 yrs ago from my local honda dealer. They hand delivered it to my house and drove it in my driveway for me. Fits thru your standard size garden gate. Still on the original batteries. They dont hold charge as long,… Read more
which is to be expected, but still cuts no problemo. Ive changed the blades once, thats all ive done to it during my ownership. I mow my quarter acre block and the old fellas next door on a full charge. Been reading a few negative reviews on this machine from other users, well let me tell you that has not been my experince, just the opposite in fact. I can only say those users are maybe using this mower outside of its design brief. Its meant for small easy yards and lawns that are kept maintained, its meant to be a replacement for a push mower, to make the job less of a chore, not to mow large acres of out of control grass, thats a slashers domain. I used to do my yard with a push mower, then a back injury made the job that much harder, hence the toro ride-on. In summary, i would recommend this mower in lieu of a petrol push mower any day.
Follow-up · Following up, since I posted this review one of the batteries in the mower (there are six 12 volt batteries underneath the drivers seat) dropped a cell, so I have had to replace them. Upon speaking to the dealer about this I was informed I had done extremely well to get 4yrs out of them as most owners found they were failing before the warranty… Read more
These mowers will cause significant injury or death one day. As they age, they get strange unpredictable fault, a "ghost acceleration fault" where the mower suddenly emits a long beep while going full throttle without notice. Reported to Toro and the Toro dealer, the Dealer was nice and responsive but after having the mower at their service agent… Read more
for a while they declared that they don’t have the area/terrain to test it properly and no follow up from Toro AU. Batteries have been replaced, second set now only hold charge for 20 min or so, motor controller was also replaced. These junk machines should be recalled and all transactions refunded. This is a safety issue, mark my words, someone will get seriously hurt as your machine could develop this “ghost acceleration fault” at any moment. See the videos.
Good mower now its got a 40AH lithium battery in it . Before it was pretty crappy and lacked any power. Now i can mow thick grass and a whole acre and still have 50% charge left. The blue change top LED indicator is yet to go out :). For those that can build the battery its a 21S 14P with 2700ma 18650 with a decent BMS (ant) 50A . peak currents… Read more
for the mower are 35A with normal cutting around 15 to 20 A. Fit a lithium battery if your warrantee has run out you wont regret it.
Toro electric ride on mower – Had mine just under 3 Years and the Batteries finally gave up . I have a 800mts house block and can cut front and back with no issue . Until now. Contacted agent and no issue getting a new set of batteries under the 3 year warranty. (Was 17 Days under , So lucky ) Hopefully the replacement batteries are better quality. Still have product warranty… Read more
on them so lets hope Love how quiet and easy it cuts my lawn. I always put it back on charge when finished and leave it on over night. Best lawn mower i have ever owned.
Terrible – Junk. Hard to get parts for. More time in workshop than cutting grass. Show details
Impressive – Efficient and super to use cuts even the longer grass with ease. Easy to get into all problem spots. Show details
Follow-up · Battery life is great, mower is quiet enough that I can mow at anytime without disturbing anyone. It’s easy to store and manoeuvre in tight places.
Terrible Buy – Terrible Mower. Battery life is horrible and cuts out more often than not. Would expect better from a brand new piece of equipment like this. Purchased late Jan early Feb and it's already stopping after 20mins of doing flat ground. Hadn't even made it to the smaller hills. Then back on charge. Really really poor ride on and would never ever purchase something like this again either from Toro or in an electric form. Show details
Hi Gary A 20min run time would be expected if the mower was… Read more (+2 replies)
Disappointed – I wish that I had seen this forum before I purchased a Toro eS3000. I wouldn't have bought it. My experience is similar to many posts. After 7-8 months the machine would only mow for 20 minutes. I contacted the agent but it took 3 months to get a technician to look at it. He had the mower for about 6 weeks and pronounced the batteries still good,… Read more
no discernable problem. I got the machine back but still it would only run for 20 minutes or so.
I think that this mower is a toy, something to give a child, it is not a real mower.
There is a YouTube video extolling this mower, that video should be taken down, it is a complete misrepresentation of what the machine is actually like.
Word should be put out saying this so other people don't buy it.
We would like to follow up on this for you, could you please… Read more
Do not recommend the Toro 3000 battery ride on – For the price of a small second hand car I think the Toro 3000 battery lawn mower is crap and wish I’d never bought it. It’s like a kids toy and I can’t see it lasting very long. I’m used to driving a kubota ride on and they are fantastic but had to get the Toro for a small easy lawn space. My Toro is brand new but just decides to stop when ever… Read more
it feels like it and it’s very easy grass to cut. I would never recommend to anyone buying this product. Most stupid forward and back control which just fell off when my machine was first delivered.
Frustrated – Had this electric ride on for a couple of years. It's probably done 10 hours of work. In that time I've had an issue where it just died requiring replacement of the control panel. That took about nine weeks. Now I have one of the two blades not working. It's only a small yard but I need it because of my age (77yo). I'm regretting this purchase. Show details
Good battery like – The ride on is cutting very well through fairly long grass 75mm. The run time is 1.5 hours. No issues so far. Show details
Good for suburban yard – Only real complaint is with ease of operation. Difficult at first to get used to forward/reverse switch. Also, when brake pedal is depressed, it cuts power to drive motors, so if you’re on a steep incline, you can’t engage drive whilst foot is on brake. A bit harrowing to say the least. A modification to the cut out switch fixed that issue. Other… Read more
than that, does a good job of the lawn, so long as it is done often. The battery gauge is not very accurate, as it indicates about half charge for a fair while, then nothing all of a sudden. Overall 7.5/10. Good mower for the cost.

Know better, choose better.
Good for small blocks, not acreage – I've just sold our acreage where I had a 23hp Redmax mower with a 48 inch cut and so was not expecting anywhere near the same performance but I did not like the idea of pushing a mower around. I now have a 900 sq metres block of which about 600 sq metres is buffalo grass which was quite thatched. The mower works fine for this sized block and uses… Read more · 1
about half the battery power when finished. The mulching function is perfect if you keep the cut on level 4 and do it often.
It does take some getting used to the lag in control response but you get used to it. I would not recommend it for steep blocks or continued use for long long grass. The batteries are AGM and not lithium so running them lower than 50% will shorten their life but it is a 72 volt mower so it should perform a lot better than the many 48v mowers that compete with it. Build quality seems OK and it will cut in reverse. Seat is adjustable and very comfortable. They used to have a tow hitch but the dealer says it was deleted as people were overloading it.
In summary it makes short work of a residential lawn with good results and minimum effort from the operator. It's not a substitute for a decent petrol ride on mower unless you are comparing it with something around 8 hp but does your lawn in around 15 minutes without a sweat.
Edit: I've had the mower for almost 2 years now. It's been very reliable and has had no repairs. It cuts very well and I'm happy with the product. It's not a slasher but is suitable for maintains a lawn on a larger residential block. I use it in mulching mode and it leaves the lawn looking good without grass clumps.
Hmmmmm……….. this is a Chinese made mower, then badge engineered by Toro - I didn’t realize this when I purchased it – I mow approximately 1.5acres on mid north coast - sloping block. 1st time out it scared me senseless- stalled on steeper slope and controller not engaging to reverse out any time soon….finally able to reverse out. Narrow wheels on saturated ground also not ideal, and slooooowwwwwwww. As they say, when the horse bucks you off - get on again as… Read more
soon as you can. Sooo, I did today with more satisfactory results.
That said the controlling panel, and associated responsiveness is a real problem……. I thought managing my two year old granddaughter was a challenge….. amplify that by two and it feels like the buttons etc send messages to Nth Korea and back before it reacts to accelerator peddle…. Not great if your hanging over a precipice ;-).
Summary…..
Good for flat landers where you turn it on and just go round and round…albeit sloooowly.
Disappointing for Toro first foray - even the badge engineered bit.
Good ride on but the charger is crap if you colour blind with red/green led – The mower is good for a small to any size depending on time, 2 acres on one charge is possible. The biggest problem is that the battery charger has no information on what the red/green led light means Just plug it in and green when charged. The mower won't fully charge after 2nd and use 24 hours charging Found a small bit of packing plastic in… Read more · 1
the connector, pays to check even the smallest thing. The service department was helpful with a second charger just confirm all is good. Now 2 weeks later the on mower battery monitor is stuck on blue but will fully charge still just don't know how low the level is when mowing. Waiting on a reply from TORO AUS.
Just perfect for our area! – We live out of town but have about roughly 1 acre of lawn in the house yard. We wanted to go battery powered as I am not very mechanical. Really glad I did. The first mow my grass was quiet long and thick and it did struggle in patches it even cut out with the overload protection twice which made me very nervous. After the first cut though it does… Read more
it easy. I mostly use the built in mulcher but if I go away or get a bit lazy and it gets a bit long I find it's better to throw it out the side. I have not run it flat yet as it always mows my house yard on one charge. A few reasons I went with the Toro over the other battery ride on mower I was looking at are, it cuts in reverse and I had a local dealer who had one on the floor so I got to try one first and assembled it and delivered it for free. Some little odd things I have found are the battery full indicator always shows fully charged until you engage the blades. So you turn the key on it says fully charged then when you start the blades it shows you how much charge it really has. It has a usb charging port, I don't think I will ever have a need to charge my phone while mowing! Overall very happy with it and feel a bit more confident going forward knowing I can get blades (the mower will stand on it's bum so it is easy to get to the blades)and any warranty repairs at my local dealer in town. I was hoping to mow some fire breaks around my boundary out in the paddock but my dealer gave me a stern no to that. His words "It's a LAWN mower". Maybe that would be asking too much of the little beast.
