36 Years of service and counting – We have had this 500W Toshiba Microwave in the house since 2003. At the time, it was an emergency replacement for a (grey-market) Sharp Convection Microwave (originally bought in 1993) that sadly broke down that year. This ER-5400 Microwave was originally purchased in 1988 by a relative of ours. However, it has proved more than its worth in service, as it is still about, 21 years later (as of August 2024). While it is no longer as quiet as it (once) was, also being slightly more scratched and the screen has become a bit hazy as time has passed but considering its age, hardly a complaint there.
No idea on original price but would likely have cost around A$400 in 1988, not a small sum then.
It has solid Japanese build quality, as it was 'Made in Japan'. The relative who gave it to us at the time, saw it a decade later and remarked on how solid it still was, all these years down the track. It will be a sad day when it gives out, as it is likely to be unrepairable at this point. Toshiba likely discontinued parts for the ER-5400 back in the 1990s, so everything will certainly be NLA by now.
I am not sure what it can be replaced with, as I suspect its eventual replacement will not be anywhere near as well-built or long lasting as this Toshiba ER-5400 was, so long may it live.
TOSHIBA...... .WORST COMPANY I HAVE COME ACROSS – This REVIEW " IS NOT" ABOUT THE [Brand Removed].....lTS IS ABOUT "TOSHIBA" CUSTOMER SERVICE OR LACK THERE OF....NO IDEA HOW IT CHANGED TO [Brand Removed] we purchased TV from [Brand Removed],and having minor issues since trying to hot spot from my phone, worked well the first time...Tried next night wouldn't works...Since then 3/1/24 I have tried everyday to get onto their customer service..(Lack of) each time you can hang on for ages or get call back and NOT loose your position in the que, so I opted for that......4hrs later no return call, again I did the same, wait eventually doing the call back again......still nothing, next day same, finally did get a call from them I answered none spoke, after 11secs still no one, so hung up.....by Friday went thru same yet again 3 times, again around 6.40 ish same no. Calls, ibgo to answer it's hung up.....As it closes at 7 maybe just a bit too close to knock off to be bothered, and by both calling shows they rang but DODNT BOTHER DOING THEIR JOB.... Here we are a week later already called twice each day, but now you get "Sorry no agents are available at this time" Like seriously you and [Brand Removed] are the same Company, yet they dealt with us within minutes and problem solved with two phone calls....Are your TV's/products that had you have that many calls you don't return or keep your customers in the so called que.....They need minus stats on reviews because you would be minus 5 by far...you only got one star as there is no other choice, Now the 11/23 2 more calls per day, still no call back or reply via email to Head Office, actually received an email after that edit, to apologise for the delay and [Name Removed] will getntonus shortly, 15th Jan today, received yet another apology and some one would ring us ASAP, that was 10hrs ago, and still nothing done at all... Unbelievable how do they survive if their products have that many problems, they certainly aren't real able that's for sure.
