No good – Absolute rubbish. I had to take the 1st one back because the whole body had melted when I opened the box. The replacement has also warped and twisted in the Ozzie sun and can't record a stable picture because the mounting is so loose from having melted. On my 3rd suction cup already too. Battery only lasted about 3 months. Show details

love Uniden – Running 3 dash cams 800 , 820 ,850 , no issues except the 820 wont loop , no big deal i just format every month as that car does low kms , 32g sd card All easy to set up , always read the instructions carefully , it helps . Recording quality is excellent in all models . Down loads are quick and easy . I had a driver reverse into me , claimed… Read more

i hit her, till i pointed at the camera , no insurance issues .

My partner had a lane changer , no indicator smacked her left front wheel arch , again no insurance issues .

Had a cyclist claim i drove to close to her , yes i did as you wobbled out into the traffic , she said i have a camera and i said i have one too , she quickly rode off .

They are a must in todays crazy world of drivers texting , phoning etc , well worth it .

Only other issue if left standing full sun light on a hot day can drop off the windscreen , but only if car is stationary and a hot day .

The worst dash cam – It was ok for the first six months. Ater that the LCD screen went static noise then I had to re format many times. The second year the LCD screen sometimes turned black and just recorded nothing. Now it is not even in the third year yet. The menu / mode button does not work it. Battery does not hold the power. Now it is in the rubbish bin.

Has worked well for the past 6 years and is still going strong – Reading the other reviews here I decided to write one of my own as I have had this dash cam installed in my car now for the past 6 years with minimal issues... the units battery only now is no longer holding a charge but it still works fine powered from the vehicles battery. I've had 1 Micro SD card die (will not format) but that was sitting in… Read more

the unit for 3 years and permanently mounted in the car so it could just as easily have been the heat that killed it... like others I have been unable to get the unit to loop the recordings (overwriting old files) but with a 16 GB card it records for more than 6 months worth of daily driving before it needs to be formatted. Yes the menu is a bit awkward but not impossible and installing the unit could be tidier, but it records a good picture, the shock triggered "Lock" feature works well if you set the sensitivity correctly (menu item) and overall it's been pretty reliable, if I can find a way to fit a new battery I will happily leave it installed.

(PS 6 years is a pretty good battery lifespan for an item that is used daily)

NOT recommended – 850 DASH CAMERA. Only 2 camera's work at any given time. Occasionally does NOT record. Occasionally does NOT "lock" recording (to prevent being overwritten. Piece of trash – Mine lasted for 2 months without much issue. Then at times it would stop recording. Then the SD card failed. I used it for another month then it just stopped working completely. Six months later I bought another one and I had the same issues all over again. Really poor quality unit. Wasted my money, twice.

VERY POOR product – This iGO 850 3 camera unit from Uniden is prone to so many faults that it is virtually useless. To be fair it did work as advertised for a few days until it froze and refused to boot up. The first unit only being days old was replaced by the retailer (Harvey Norman) with a new unit. It took several weeks for the same fault to appear in the… Read more

replacement unit. Another fault is they tend to destroy the micro SD cards, my unit having had 3 fail until the actual cameras started to fail. Now long out of warranty, it was time to pull apart and have a look inside. The two cameras mounted to the body of the unit can swivel through nearly 180 degrees. To my utter disbelief, these cameras are connected with a flat ribbon cable that had been folded over on itself and crudely secured with tape and heat shrink. this kind of flat ribbon cable needs to stay flat and not be exposed to twisting and folding. Certain that there is a broken wire in this ribbon somewhere that has resulted in the camera failing.

Short summary now I have looked inside this thing.

On paper this should be an excellent unit, however the poor quality of the internal components will inevitably result in almost all of these items failing long before they have run out of warranty. A shame as I have been a fan of Uniden products as a rule. If Uniden was to improve the internals of this unit with more reliable components I would love to rate it highly, however from what is in pieces in front of me, my opinion of the iGO 850 is that it is poorly made and not worth the money.

Terrible – Bought the IGO 850 only to find that SSV in Tullamarine did not even set it up properly to start with. Problem no.2 is that I thought that it would be easy enough to set up myself on the basis that the instructions are supplied. Crap. The hard copy of instructions supplied with the camera don't even pertain to the camera. Went on line and then… Read more

Camera sucks but suction part doesn't – Over the pas 4 years, OfficeWokrs replaced it 3 times for me after Uniden failed to fix the battery issue. The quality of the video is not that bad, but you can not record 1080 when using both front cameras. This is a very misleading advertisement as I did not read anything about this anywhere. The GPS cable needs to be plugged in so there are… Read more

lot of wires going around and if you can't fit them under roof liner, you need a proper installer to do it for you specially if you want to use the rear camera, I did not use the rear camera.

For me the problem was firstly the battery, it only holds for 5 mins, so it has to be plugged all the time and the main problem that I had which led to never using it again was the plastic suction part. It broke 5 times and all from the same area.

I am buying a Transcend 220 this week to replace it, funny enough, we never had an accident or something worth recording when we had the dash cam and 12 hours after the suction part broke and we had to remove the camera from the car, my wife's car T-Boned at an intersection and the first question insurance company asked was " Do you have a dash cam "

worst camera! – I have 2 91 for my Merc and the other for my wife's Bema and when I needed to review an accident it did not record, the sales person from Harvey Norman said these cameras are the best, they certainly charge top price for them. suggest look at other products.

Not even worth a star – This product has been the worst! Purchased 18months ago, the first six months a camera died. I had to wait 6 weeks to have a new product as tech support needed to verify the fault. *Go figure*. What a waste of windscreen space – I bought this camera when when a retailer had a 30% discount day. Was happy with it at first although the mount to the camera was not satisfactory and the power cord which has to loop down and connect to the bottom of the unit was untidy. We were able to review footage ok on the home pc but was tricky to find the bit you wanted. To cut to the… Read more

chase though within only 8 months the unit has literally warped and fell apart. It may be the Gold Coast sun/heat but I think this is unsatisfactory and not fit for the purpose its designed for. It now just cycles on and off and no longer works properly. I'm going to take it back and try to at least get a refund/store credit. Although it won't probably be that straight forward as it looks like its been abused. I only wish I had read other reviews before purchasing it.

igo cam 850 – Was working very well but couldn't zoom into number plates on computer. Had approx. 1yr and now rear camera won't work - blue screen, the camera will no longer lock files to save them from being overwritten which is no good if you need the footage after an accident. Car is mostly garaged, so don't know what's gone wrong with it. Have reset device too many times now to no avail. That's it for Uniden for me I'm afraid.

Gives technology a bad reputation – Will never buy a Uniden product again, this dashcam is the last straw. Keeps switching on and off, and now is just stuck on the startup screen not going any further. Tried to reset, but it's now 3 months out of warranty and the only good place for it is the bin.

Rubbish – After replacing it 3 times, "would not turn on" I finally got one that worked, was ok for a while then started to turn off for no reason, had a couple of near misses, which would have come in handy if I did have the accident but unfortunately when I went to retrieve the recording , nothing, so I can't see the point in owning one of these as they… Read more

Pretty average – It records good video but the single biggest issue was the malware that came with the official software. It took over an hour to clean my computer. The camera never started recording automatically and had to be started manually. Despite being tiny it managed to be very obstructive, mainly due to the flimsy mounting which eventually broke. It's now landfill.

Skip it – Well I decided to get one of these from Harvey Norman at Knox City. Wish I hade not. Although not the most expensive dash cam I have seen, in hindsight I have concluded that the money would have been better spent on a different camera. Main issues for me are - too many cables. One for power, one for the GPS and one for the separate rear… Read more

camera, so three in all. Just makes for a really messy cable layout. Some of the competition have GPS built into the main unit, so one less cable. I have also heard of Bluetooth rear cameras for ash cams, so that's another cable gone, just down to one, though I have to admit I have not seen one with a BT camera yet, only heard of them.

- Menu system is fiddly and cannot be accessed when the unit is plugged into a PC.

- When connected to the PC to access the memory card as a usb drive, it constantly disconnects and reconnects, irrespective of which USB port I use. This is the *only* USB device that exhibits this behaviour using the same USB cable.

- The player app from the website does an "OK" job, but is not great. The program will constantly freeze when trying to play videos straight from the unit, so much so that I now copy the contents down to the PC.

- The pc app also seems to have problems displaying the contents of the PCs HDD, esp if you copy the folder to the PCs desktop. The apps browse option won't display the contents using the desktop shortcut, you have to navigate to your desktop via the c:\users\<your username>\desktop path. Just poor programing.

- There are two versions of the app, each one for different builds of the camera based on their serial numbers. Out of interest I tried the other version (not for my serial number) to see if it was any better, and although it suffered from the same issues as mentioned above, it also i display the GPS data but it did display the recordings from the 2nd camera in a small inset window. The app for my model did display the GPS data , but there was no option to display the 2ns camera image apart from locating the file 2ns cameras files on the unit.

Overall, not impressed. Yes it is cheap, but it behaves , looks and feels like a cheap unit, and the PC s/w is of equal poor quality. Save your money for a better quality unit.

Not a bad unit after learning more about it – Bought my unit at a discount at DSE when I was shopping for a reversing camera. I now had it for a week and learnt few things about it. It will record the left front camera at HD and the reversing camera at 480 simultaneously but only when you select both images on the screen (one in a small window). This is not mentioned anywhere in the owners… Read more

manual.

Secondly, I bought a cheap 16 GB Class 10 memory car as recommended by the salesman and found that it was not fast enough in writing to the card. Time segments, selected in menu as 1, 2 or 5 minutes were considerably shorter and there was a 5-10 second gap between sequential recordings making it flawed as a traffic events recorder. I think this drawback could be overcome be selecting 720 rather that HD recording on the left camera but I did not test it. Today I bought a fast memory card Lexar 16GB sport/mobile Micro SDHC UHS-1 rated at 95MB/s (633x) reading speed (the more important writing speed is about half that) and after my first use today I can see that 5 minute recordings really last exactly 5 minutes and, thankfully, there are no more gaps between subsequent recordings.

With the cheap/slow memory card I found that when I selected unlimited length recording (as against the 1, 2 or 5 minutes segments), the card would fill up and then recording would stop. I expected the recording would auto-erase and the camera continue recording. It is possible this may actually work with the faster memory card but I have not tested it yet. Anyways, the 5 minute segments are quite satisfactory.

Overall, for $126 I paid for the unit plus $10 for the fast card (it was a discounted item in another DSE store with its USB converter missing from the package) I think it was a good buy if the unit continues performing as it did today.

Uniden iGo Cam 850 – I purchased through Officeworks. Worked ok but i had left it a few times on my windscreen in the sun and it failed. The Aussie sun is harsh and for a camera to be in this position should be up-to-the mark to deal with that fact. It would work for a while and then the screen would go white, then turn off completely. I now have a second iGo 850… Read more

(replaced free of charge by Officeworks, thank you) and am more careful about leaving on my windscreen. However, i cannot get it to 'loop' record. Once the card is full it stops recording. Also, the camera records intermittently missing important events that I wanted to view & show. (Edit: there was a setting which I changed which overcome the intermittent recording, but still cannot find out how to loop record. I have to constantly format the card when full).

Overall, not happy with the Uniden 'flagship' dash cam.

Seemed like a good idea at the time! – I bought the Uniden 850 Cam as it was priced realistically given it's many features ( night vision, two forward view camera's and even a rear hard wired camera ) and it worked well, for 2 weeks that is, that's when it decided to go and have a screen melt down ! Wasted My Money – It recorded a few minutes here and there on the first two days but since then all videos are only for a second. I'm on a limited income, to me $200 was a lot of money for nothing. Do not buy this product. Do not waste your effort. If someone got it for you for Christmas, keep it in the box and exchange it for a camera that works.

It works – I own 2 Unident iGO Cam's, the 850 and the 800? I use them in both of my cars, one camera facing front the other out the rear window. So do they work..Yes they do, front and back footage + a 32GB sd card for under ~$200, cant really complain about the price. The… Read more

footage is "ok, at best" in the day. Don't expect plate details if more than 2 car lengths away. At night poor. "If I could see as well as a Unident 850 can at night, I would never leave my house after dusk, and I am under 30". The Infrared LED's do nothing (beyond 50cm), but to see WELL at night you NEED a Wide Dynamic Range camera, NOT IR LED's, WDR cameras cost more. Strange enough the older model 800? preforms night/day video better and is only 720p and not Full HD.

There are many reviews that say; waste of time, broken on arrival, software issues, But I have not had these problems myself.

Quality: its a cheap build, I am not surprised many people have had returns, the left camera works better than the right one, saved recordings are sometimes a little choppy, I always felt it "could decide to let me down", has a cheap plastic feel, also you CAN'T record BOTH cameras at 1080p at the same time, one must be below 720p!

Summary: If on a budget YES, its cheap, and much better than NO camera. However the Camera is not good enough for me at night, so in future I will spend more on something better, with good Dynamic Range. Remember "IR night vision" does not effectively work outside the car.

Waste of money, don't bother with Uniden – I purchased my Uniden iGO Cam 850 3 months ago brand new and paid $199 from Strathfield Car Radios. This unit constantly freezes, misses recordings, and does not withstand heat from the sun! I have been back to Strathfield Car Radios to get the unit swapped over to another one and they have rejected the claim saying it is wear and tear!. I… Read more

have also contacted Uniden Australia and they said they have to go by the retailers point of view of wear and tear.

If a product is sold to you as a Car Dash Cam, you will expect it to last in the heat. This thing melted on the top corners of the unit.

Also, the software on this unit is very slow. Does not respond at times and the unit constantly restarts itself. I have also missed a lot of recordings from this unit and a lot of corrupted recording files.

Honestly, it is way better to spend your money on a Garmin etc.

I have since taken it to Consumer Affairs NSW to get this sorted and instead of a replacement unit, I have requested for a full refund.

Please, avoid this nasty cheap piece of plastic product. If you want it to melt in the Australian Sun, go ahead. They will make up excuses saying it is wear and tear and they won't return your money!.

enough. Also to get the most out of the camera I hard wired it so I would never run out of power when parked. Night video isn't great especially in unlit areas but it is at least video footage. The gps works a treat showing speed and location on a map. Only thing is you need the uniden player to see it all but that isn't a big deal. All in all if you want movie quality video save your pennies and get a more expensive unit but if you are on a budget and expect to get what you pay for then this unit is worth a look.
