Great little work horse – Purchased my one from a man's toyshop in Townsville back in 2013 and have not had one single problem with it and I have been hard on this little machine I mean this thing has been flogged ! From 1.2 light gauge wall frames and trusses to pushing the limits on machinery and 1 inch plate she loves it ! I even used it weld a new steel carry handle on… Read more · 1
itself after the plastic one gave up ( not recommended) but she loved it . Can't rate this thing high enough ! Best$440 I have spent on a cheap welder
Bought a complete dud – Bought on sale from a place in Hobart that isn't there any more as far as I can tell. Took it straight back as there was a problem with the wire feed. They 'fixed' it and I asked them to give me a demo in the shop, and the wire feed was intermittent at best. Left it with them for a week, picked it up, and problems ever since. Yes, it was a waste… Read more
of money, but what I resent more is the waste of time and energy I've put into this dud. From the moment I purchased it til the moment I took to it with some 4 x 2 hardwood, it was a pain in the proverbial. Never had so much trouble with an appliance. I can fix pretty much anything, but this had some very difficult;t to overcome inherent design flaws. My older different brand 150 amp mig is still going strong after 17 years.
Stuffed after 8 days – Paid 1280.00 for a 180 acdc tig, afte some practice welds the gas wouldn't come out ,then the tungsten won't arc at all .very expensive unit. I'm am happy I didn't buy from eBay. Show details
Can't believe it's still going – I am on my 3rd machine. I ran a fabrication shop for 20+ years. I was using an Esseti inverter welder for quite a while for site work until it gave up. When I asked my supplier to get me another one he recommended I try out the Unimig for around a quarter of the price. At first I declined, I am a staunch believer that 'Good tools aren't cheap and… Read more · 1
cheap tools aren't good'. I thought this guy can make more money from me selling the more expensive unit but he's working so hard to get me to buy the cheaper one so I gave in and bought it. Never looked back. The first one did just give up, but rightly so, I used it for everything from structural steel fabrication, excavator buckets to fiddly stainless steel jobs. I got a good 5 years out of it. I ran it off a 7 kva generator as well as 240v power. The second one I dropped an Acrow prop on it and crushed it. So I got another one. When I moved out to the farm I had to store all of my gear under a tarp while my shed was getting built. One day I asked my offsider to get me the welder, when he opened the carry case water just poured out of it. Apparently I had placed the welder case upright under a small hole in the tarp which filled the case completely full after a long bout of rain. I thought that was it for that machine so I went into town to get another one as I had a job that needed to get done. I couldn't get another Unimig so I bought a Boss unit instead. Now here's the unbelievable bit. A couple of days later I was looking at the Unimig and I thought "I just wonder". So I plugged it in and turned it on expecting either nothing or a load of sparks. To my surprise it started up with the very familiar hum of the cooling fan so I tried to weld with it and it worked, without any problem at all. That was 3 years ago and I'm still using it now, working it just as hard as ever. I've still got a brand new Boss welder sitting on the shelf just in case. The fan is starting to make a bit of noise but apart from that it still welds as good as the day I bought it way back in 2013.
It has never let me down – Every time I need to use it just wheel it out - use it - then push it back in the shed again Just what every home DIY needs. I wish all my tools were that good. Show details · 1
Can't say I did my research, what a big mistake, it is a DUD – Purchased from Adelaide Tools - like most of the complaints I have read spool feed keeps jamming and diving me nuts. Every time I put it down after 4 or 5 mins of welding it jammed at the spool feed once I tried to recommence welding. total frustration. At first I thought its was from spasmodic use but it seems like the gun tip overheats which… Read more
pinches the wire. Over $%500 down the toilet including a massive roll of wire. Not happy especially after reading it has been discontinued :(
Total Rubbish! – I bought the unit from Adelaide Tools at Lonsdale and took it to site for welding some fence posts etc. Unpacked it only to find it did not work at all. Totally dead! Called Adelaide Tools and was told it needed to go for warranty repairs and that would take some weeks! Instead took it to Adelaide Tools at St Mary's , which was next to the work… Read more
site and totally different attitude. They replaced it on the spot with another one and checked it had power before I left the store. Great service! Used for small jobs for 3 days and then it stopped working. This time it was sent for repairs to Pooraka, who then had to send interstate as repair was beyond their capability. 6 months later ( yes ....6 months) I get the unit back after it was first lost , then I was told there was nothing wrong with it ( so why did it need to be sent interstate for repairs) . Eventually it was diagnosed with a blown internal fuse. Spent double what I paid on rental migs and had a total of 3 days use in 7 months. After I got it back I used it for several months before the wire feed motor went up in smoke. Told it would be $170 for the motor, 2 weeks to get and a fortune to strip the machine to get to. I am not a whinger, have 20 years mig experience, so I can honestly say that my experience with this brand has been a total nightmare and costly mistake!!!
Junk Don't buy – I have had the same problems. The chart showing the settings is all wrong you can't run a smooth arc. I have wasted so much wire and gas just trying to get better settings I can't. rubbish. I have read all the information Ion setting it up.watched YouTube .and done a welding course But it still has not helped. Even as a stick welder its very hard ti stick an arc. Show details
Great value for money – I am a retired panal beater and i bought my welder and i can see that it is well made with visually quolaty parts the hand piece and Leed are great and it welds fine for lighter gage steel it does a mighty job iv done a lot of welding of 2mm gall building fully welded veranda ect but i did have 1 falty part inside the welder internal fuse but… Read more
it was cheap to repair 50 dollars part suplied by company plus 1 weak to repair but since iv given it a fair old workout and it is absolutely fine doing a great job
Love it, works well – Never had a problem, I have done many, many of hours of light gauge welding with it. They are not for heavy plate or mid- big structural. But you simply don't get an industrial welder for this price, they are light gauge machines and good at it. Knowing how to set up, use and maintain a mig will go a long way. Great for those quick 6mm and less jobs. Show details
welder not fit for purpose – Was given a Unimig 180 welder for my birthday Not fit for purpose keeps breaking down repair shop said they can't do any more for me DO NOT PURCHASE A UNIMIG 180 Rubbish will not purchase unimig products again wire feed will not work Trigger keeps on jamming will not run a good arc and unimig do not want to fix it very poor Show details
Terrible – Not happy at all. R replaced another cheap Ross welder for general farm use and this one is junk. Wire does not feed smoothly and will not keep a nice ark. Has never been good from day dot. Settings do not match charts on the welder and it's a guessing game to get them right. Wire feed is so temperamental I'm considering binning it and wearing the cost. Very unhappy customer. Show details
Don't buy a Uni-mig – I purchased a 180 Uni-mig for home and when I first tried to use it the wire kept jamming in the gun and eventually the feed stopped working altogether. It took two weeks to get it back with a note saying that an internal fuse blew. When I asked what caused the fuse to blow I was told just the fuse was a problem. I tried to use it again and I… Read more
couldn't even feed the wire through this time. After another two weeks I was told that I had the wrong tip fitted which was strange as I removed the tip and made sure the wire fitted into the tip before I returned the mig for repair again. I have it back again and I still have feed trouble, so I am at a loss as what to do next. My advise is don't buy a Uni-mig unless you want grief.

Welds nicely, keeps breaking down – Purchased a few years ago. Tried to weld, nothing happened. Took it back to place of purchase they repaired it - wire was not connected to hand trigger. Used it a few times then the wire kept balling up in the drive. The inner spiral wire sheath wont stay in place and keeps jamming the wire. Very cheap construction for the wire feed guide. Will never buy a Unimig again. Show details

$200 bottle deposit .
And some WIA 5kg .8 wire $37 from local supplier
Saved about $150 shopping around .
Great little unit – 2 years of pretty consistent use, at least every weekend, never missed a beat. He even run probably 15 kilos of wire through it(gas) and about half a kilo of gas less. Any where from 1mm sheet up to about 4mm is the thickest I've gone too. I have an expensive Italian tog that has had way less use and way more problems. I couldn't ask for better… Read more
value for money, easy settings and runs a good bead. For the money I would highly recommend this welder.
Goold, reliable, no problems – I bought the Unimig 180 nearly three years ago from Hare and Forbes as I am a hobby welder. I have given it a fairly hard time and it has not let me down once. Starts every time and does as it should. The only problem I had was not using the correct gas and you cannot blame the machine for that. I will be buying another welder soon and it will be a Unimig for arc and TIG. John
Unimig 180 mig welder – I chose the Unimig because it was a brand name, had metal components rather than plastic, had a good range 30 - 180 amps so good for thinner metals and I had read good reports on them. I bought the Unimig on 30/09/2015, used it the next day for about an hour on the lowest setting just practicing on sheetmetal. The following day I used it again… Read more
for around an hour again on the lowest settings. Comfortable with it's use I put it away until today 13/10/2015 when I dragged it out again, ran two beads on the lowest setting and then cranked it up to 3 (goes up to six) started running a bead but only got about 20mm and then it stopped arcing, wire feed continued but no arcing. Checked all connections and everything else I could - zip. Returned it from where I bought and they also could not get it to arc. What an absolute piece of rubbish $470 for less than two hours use. I asked for money back but Unimig said no I could only have a replacement. Not keen on a replacement: if one lasts two hours I wouldn't really expect the next to do much better. Be warned, Unimig make rubbish. Had I my choice over I would buy the cheapest Mig on the market - I'm sure it would last longer than two hours. What an absolute piece of rubbish - and now I'm stuck with a replacement, I'm not confident it will last any longer. Absolute piece of rubbish. Full marks to Adelaide Tools where I bought it, extremely helpful, polite and even offered to send the replacement to a store nearer where I lived - can't get better than that!
