UNIMIG RAZOR COMPACT Welder Series

Amazing machine – I have had this welder for some time now and it just never stops, it replaced a little compact 180 unimig that still runs after 25 years. Love these machines Show details · 1
Pretty good machine – Bought this to replace a 12 year old dedicated transformer mig. I'm only giving this long review based on the mig features of this machine as that's all it will solely used for. Let me first say when researching machines that ticked my boxes, the guys at Unimig were prompt at answering questions and really know their stuff. That was a confidence… Read more · 1
boost for me at the start regarding their service. They also didn't hesitate to post an item that was omitted from the machine sample I purchased.
The GOOD..... Played extensively with the machine today with .8mm wire and 5/2 gas and I'm overall happy with the voltage control and WFS repeatability and the nice welds being produced. It was easy once a sweet spot had been found to return to those settings at any time and get the same smooth arc but.... I'd suggest keeping a detailed log of the volts and WFS dial position this machine likes. Note: The LH display is only for volts. wire speed is dial only and the RH display shows amps but only after an arc is struck (mig mode).
The inductance feature was quite influencing when played with and I found around 30-50% was were I liked it for most of the voltage & wire speed combinations.
Spray transfer was particularly nice to use with the volts maxed out (29v) and 12m/min speed with 50% inductance. It was like butter. So smooth and stable. Wow! first time I've been able to achieve proper spray as my old beast lacked the balls required.
Build quality overall is very nice. It's fairly heavy but the wheels/casters are smooth and up to the task. The 4m SB24 is perfectly matched to the machine. I really like the sturdy wire drive system and the fact it will take 5 & 15kg wire spools and large gas bottles.
The not so good..... First off, the owner's manual is pretty poor. The diagram pointers don't even line up with the features and the inductance control is not mentioned anywhere.
The burnback is a little less forgiving than I've experienced with other migs.
The supplied gas regulator is typical and inaccurate. Mine drifts. Starts at 10L/min with the trigger pulled, then checked after 30 minutes of welding and it read 15L/min again, with the trigger pulled. Most welders Tig or Mig use 10-15L/pm but are supplied with gauges that read 45+. We need gauges that don't go over 20 so they are accurate where it counts, middle of scale.
There is no setting guide in the manual or on the inside of the door or anywhere for that matter, so you waste a lot of gas, wire and hours making your own.
This thing doesn't come with a plug, strange and a pain! It's got a monster power cable but please, at least put a factory fitted 15amp plug on it. If someone wants to go bigger they can chop it off and fit a 20 or 32. A heavy duty 15 amp plug with a 12mm inlet is not terribly easy to find and fitting it on the super heavy duty cable is even less easy. There is a risk someone that doesn't know what they are doing is gonna stuff it up or worse.... Pretty strange because half the owner's manual is about safety! To me, none of the negatives are deal breakers and I don't think anyone will be disappointed in this machine for mig work.
If you know what your doing, you'll love it. If your a newbie, you'll go grey, then bald, then eventually love it. Cheers, Geoff
Great welder – Great welder. Very easy to use & a perfect finished weld. Hand piece is very comfortable for long periods of use. The large wheels make it easy to wheel around even on a dirty floor on uneven surfaces. A winner in my book Show reply
love this Mig – This is the second UniMig that i have owned in the last 26 years my first was a compact 182 and I still have it and it still works. You can't get better than that. Show details · 1
Absolute top product – Done a few jobs over Christmas with it can not fault it makes an amateur look like a professional I’d totally recommend to anyone can’t wait to get a spool gun on it and have a play aswell Show details · 1
Great home welder for a boilermaker – Great digital readout. Could do with the larger handpiece and a 4T option but good for the price. Does draw very high current. Max is actually 54a at 240v but average running for me is 24a so you do need a good shed circuit to run it. Only comes with 1.2-1.0 v rollers and 0.9-1.2 knurled rollers so I did have to order more for my 0.9 and 0.6 wires. Overall very happy with it so far. Show details · 1
Works well, perfect for farm repairs – I purchased this welder as a replacement for a smaller mig that expired. It works well as a farm repair welder and having the three welders in one is very handy. Works well in both Mig and stick with enough power for thicker steel, still haven't mastered Tig yet. This welder is perfect for me and I am pleased with it's performance so far. Show details · 1
