UNSW Fitness & Aquatic Centre

UNSW Pool is generally excellent – I only use the UNSW Pool for swimming laps (I haven't tried the associated gym). The pool is above average. The change rooms are clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful; they have a full time lifeguard there who usually seems attentive, which is a good sign that the pool is well managed, I find. The pool is 50m, indoors, and heated, although normally divided into two roughly 25 sections by a boom across the centre, giving 16 x 25m lanes, half in the deep (2m) end. There is use of a steam room included in the entry charge too. There are lockers located opposite the steam room (not in the change rooms), that you need to enter a 4-digit code, which sometimes are tricky to use, and several are always broken - but keep trying and you will find one that works and accepts your code (& remember that code for after the swim!). Parking near the Uni can be an issue, and the pool is sometimes crowded, but they publish a schedule of lane bookings on their website, so you can normally visit in a quieter time by checking out the squad booking beforehand and avoiding those times. Commonly you can share a lane with only one other person, or have one to yourself. I have swum in a lot of the pools in the Eastern suburbs, and this is one of the better public pools.
OK – A good cheap place to workout, with various memberships including no contract option - with no hard-sell! I would recommend it. big gym with lots of equipment. pretty old and really hot in summer.
