No consumable support – Bought in December 2019 and the battery is due for replacement. All consumables have been discontinued and nothing is available in the aftermarket, so I now own a paperweight. Show details

Good unit with reasonable suction – good suction on both carpet and wooden floors however difficult to clean rotating head from threads. Terribly disappointed with charging pack lasted long enough to be out of warranty. Replacement cost 1/3 of a new unit and nearly impossible to find so unit sit on shelf for 2 yrs. Show details

Battery replacement cost prohibitive – Battery needed replacing at 4 days out of warranty (still 2 years warranty left on the vacuum itself). Battery could not be ordered direct from Vax. On placing special order thru a retailer, was advised the battery replacement cost is a staggering $282 (double Dyson battery cost). So much for being a 'çheap' unit. Other consumables like filters… Read more

also not available for sale from Vax online - so much for meeting statutory requirement for reasonable parts supply! Brands like this can't be trusted (by me anyway).

Broke in 3 weeks – It started off being amazing, yet hair got stuck and it made the roller heat up and made it burn out. So now the roller doesn't work and apparently it is not covered in insurance. Show details

It’s ok pretty powerful dose a good job – Ok this works good, it’s light plenty of power and the head works great. It’s pretty noisy but can’t have horse power without noise. Need extra filter if you want to change them out and use it straight away otherwise you can’t use it for 24h. The brush bar will wear out causing it to not be that great anymore, ( it’s brilliant with the brush… Read more

bar going on carpet short or long pile. Side note good luck getting a new head or a brush bar for it as this is now old stock in Australia and vax would rather you buy another. Battery is pretty good, it will last long time if you don’t flatten it all the way just like your mobile phone. My disappointment was not being able to get spare parts or atleast consumable items very easily, just like your car if you want to to run good it needs to be serviced often. The filter really does need to be cleaned every few times you use it if you want to get good mileage from the motor, the dust will make it’s way into the motor eventually but it’s really easy to wash it out or swap spare filter in and wash both at once or however you like. Cutting hair out of the head is painful but not too bad just time consuming really. I repair appliances that’s what I have been doing for the last 30 years, I know a good product when I see it and for the price this was ok. Just a shame parts are not that easily to obtain because this is actually really really old now compared to the blade 4 and I think there is a 6 in the UK. Australia really needs to pick up the pace and catch up with the rest of the world. The battery can be replaced by an expert but by time that’s due if looked after it would be warn out.

So happy with this – I love vacuum cleaners I own a few mieles. I wanted something portable for doing my stairs. Researched so many brands. I just wanted something that was reliable light and user friendly. This fitted the bill and have not been disappointed. Quick to charge lasts longer than most in usage and can quickly zoom up my carpeted stairs without dragging… Read more

a machine behind me.....much safer.... Also great to my wooden floors for a quick going over. Its little stiff to pull apart but am getting better at it amazes me how much it picks up a real eye opener especially on my stairs.

Great value vaccum cleaner to challenge the big players – Having had a few failures with expensive stick cleaners, we decided to try a cheaper brand with good reviews. The Vax Blade 2 Max is a great unit. It cleans hard floors well, and has a booster button to really suck up pet hair (we have shedding cats), and other bits of fluff on lino and wooden floors. The motorised carpet button does a great… Read more

job of pulling dirt from medium pile carpet. It managed to pick up a whole container full of fluff, even after we' d cleaned our carpet with our corded Hoover. And when you switch on the booster, it REALLY kicks in. Battery life is OK, you'll get about 15-20 minutes use, less if you switch on the booster (it's really not needed for most floors). Only drawback is the container is a bit small, you'll need to empty it a couple of times. On the plus side, it doesn't clog (like the Hoover does..!!), it's easy to take off the dirt container, and plugs straight into the wall without the need for a seperate charging stand. It has enough attachments to get you into all the nooks and crannies, and clean the car, drapes, etc. All in all, a pretty good cleaner at a price that compares well to the more expensive brands.

Not for long term use! – Initially it worked well, but after 3 months the plastic tube in the head piece tore down, hindering its suction power to almost zero. Battery life is only enough for 8x4 square meters. Show details

ill never buy another dyson – ive had dyson after dyson and i even brought the shark when it came out, but this vax beats them all. its the best handheld ive ever had, and i will never buy a different brand again. the suction is brilliant and its easy to clean, i just wish the plug was stable in the wall hanger so that you can just push it on to charge, Ive forgotten to plug… Read more

Great affordable vacuum – After a few months looking for a vacuum with quality, value and brand background I found this Vax just what I need it for, tiled floors and carpet even my car now, long lasting battery replaceable if needed to, powered head, light weight, easy to empty and turbo mode for stubborn dirt, very happy is not cheap is not expensive is just right I’m not… Read more

Amazing performance, beyond expectation! – All current reviews of this Vax stick vacuum are for the previous model VX66 which, when reading the reviews suffered from a few shortcomings. Acting on the review criticisms Vax have brought out an updated model the VX 80/81/82 Blade 2 Pet, and all the past criticisms have been fixed. This vacuum has had a complete redesign. The dust container… Read more ·  1

is now super simple to pull apart and clean, the power brush-head now has an easy to release roller-brush, and the machine has a bigger power plant going from 24V to 32V.

Two months ago I purchased a 'VX81 Blade 2 Pet' from Bunnings where it was on promotion for $249.00 (the same price as the old VX66 model) and, the performance from this machine is staggering. The unit comes with two turbo heads and a full range of accessories.

As well as our main house, we run an Airbnb cottage rental facility so a vacuum gets used a lot more than just a normal house or apartment.....we depend on good performance to maintain our cleanliness rating!

We have been using for the past 4 years a Dyson DC08 Hepa Turbohead pull around cleaner for our main cleaning, and a Dyson DC35 stick vacuum for quick clean-ups on hard surfaces, and the new Vax VX81 far outperforms both the Dyson cleaners. I was appalled at how quickly the large canister on the Vax unit was filling up with dust the Dyson cleaners had left behind in our carpets. A single carpeted room would lift a full canister of dust the Dyson cleaner had not removed. The only downside is, because of it's obvious power and ability, run time is limited to around 17-20 minutes between charges with the turbo-head feature running.

I think the Bunnings promotion is over now but I cannot recommend this Vax cleaner highly enough. Sure we have only been using it for two months but the vacuum is used daily and I am so glad I came across it and decided to buy it. As far as I am concerned, bye bye Dyson....a lot of money spent does not equate to better performance, the two old cleaners are headed to the charity shop!

Great until powerhead died after 6 months – Best vac I have owned. I have wool sisal carpet in half the house. I always used the power head on low on it every 2nd day and worked fantastic until one day it just decided not to work. It works without it but you don't get that suction you need as we own a dog with long hair. The led head light is a must that all vacuums should have. Now the… Read more

other half of the house is wood look vinyl planks and it is a little rough on them and I like to turn the power head on to light up dust to vacuum but with this on it doesn't pick much up so you just use it without power head activated and go over it several times. The rotation brush needs to be cleaned regularly to remove my daughter's long hair strands. The suction isn't too good to get dirt from under lounge cushions. Would recommend as 3 year warranty and under $400..I also placed mine under my bed to charge rather than getting rack to hang and charge. Would prefer the led headlight worked at all times or had a turn on off switch just like the power head switch..

Every time I use it I just get angry – Bought to replace my $100 Kmart cordless vac, which I adored, but which had sadly lost suction. I'm really disappointed- it starts in turbo mode, with the rotating brush switched off for some reason. I till the first one back, as this is the opposite of what it says in the manual, but the replacement does the same so I guess they've decided to… Read more

make it a feature? Also, you need to lie the vacuum down on the ground and apply force to replace the dust compartment, otherwise it just bounces out again. The attachment to hang it to the wall is dodgy and I really regret sticking holes in my wall to mount it - I would've been better off buying a hook from Bunnings, since I see the one supplied is going to last about 10 mins before I inadvertently rip it out of the wall, while attempting to access my vacuum. Oh, and it clips in by the stick, so you can't hang it up in dustbuster mode, you have to click to stupid stick back in and then hang it, which means if you predominantly use it as a dustbuster you have to detach the stick every time. I hate it, and will literally never buy a vax product again

Works well. Very handy. BUT! Dodgy Battery – EDIT: After 2yrs the battery stopped working completely & I got a refund. I bought the same machine, sold as Hoover brand and different batteries. Paid lots more though. ------------------ ORIGINAL REVIEW: Much better than I expected from a battery vac. Suction is good and the powered brush head lifts the carpet pile for a thorough job. Emptying… Read more

is easy - I take the metal filter part out and dust it off with an old paintbrush for a good job. The run time is much shorter than the quoted 'up to 45 min.' from a charge, especially with high speed and powered brush-head turned on. That's ok as it will easily do a few rooms at a time and we grab it more often than the mains powered one because its so quick and easy without cords. Build quality seems to be good, so its good value.

Lasted just over 1 year. Customer Service Terrible – Our cleaner was used for hard tiled surfaces snd one carpet. It was fine for just over a year then the main hoover head broke. I contacted VAX who told me they don’t sell spare parts for these cleaners and consider them disposable. If I wanted the cleaner repaired then their nearest service centre was 1900 km away and I would need to drop it off… Read more

and pick it up. Their last email literally said there is nothing they could do to help me if I wasn’t prepared to drive to drop it off. Can’t believe in this age people can get away with this level of service. Crap product. Worse customer service.

Lasted 3 months – It's was great for the first 3 months and then it just lost all of its suction. Even when put on turbo, there was nothing. It's now been discontinued and I think that's why. Extremely disappointing as we loved it to begin with. I got a refund and picked up a dyson. Show details

Better than my Dyson!!!!! – I am highly impressed by the Vax Blade power and battery! Super handy vacuum – I absolutely love this vacuum! It has very strong suction and works well both on carpet and tiles. I’m a pretty lightweight individual and don’t find this vacuum heavy at all. I find it super easy to move around and especially convenient to use on stairs. The little light on the head is great too! You won’t be disappointed with this vacuum at this price point. Show details

Amazing – I had a VAX VX63 which failed during the warranty period. I returned it to Harvey Norman and replaced it with the VX82. I was happy with my previous VAX, but this one is by far better in every way. More suction, better brush, and longer run time. I can vacuum, on max power, my whole carpeted 2 bedroom apartment on one charge. For a small… Read more

place like an apartment this would easily replace a corded vac. The vacuum power is better than a corded vac, its only limitation is run time. But you can easily get 25 mins on normal suction with the power head working. I haven't tried, but Im sure you would get 45mins without the power head

this cleaner totally sucks.. in a good way! – So, we live in a 2 bedroom unit and when our excellent Electrolux corded floor vac died I thought I would see how the latest cordless vacs go for our smaller place. I decided to purchase a $69 well-known Aussie brand which basically re-badges other's vacs. It worked OK.. but.. you know.. Then I had to use up lots of CC points or lose them so I… Read more

bought the Vax Blade 2 Max after really good reviews. I am glad I did, it is fab. It makes the cheapy vac look well, cheap!

The good.. The extra grunt of the motor makes this a true replacement for a corded vac. The pickup is really good. With the crevice tool it sucks up the embedded dust between the carpet and skirting board like magic. The brush head is good and you really feel it work as it drags the head forward. The light on the front of the head.. about time someone did this. Mandatory! Battery life is good even on boost mode. Does the entire unit no problem. Cleaning the rubbish container is easy. Easy, clear, simple controls.

The 'could do better'.. No floor caddy is provided like the $69 unit, which was great. This has a single wall mount and no accessory storage but when you are in a rented place.. you cannot drill into the wall. Vax needs to provide a floor caddy, esp for the price! This is a grunty and therefore a relatively heavy unit. The balance is OK when using the floor brush, I did notice if you balance the handle lightly in your fingers and guide it, instead of gripping it too hard, then it pivots on your hand better. In handheld mode with crevice and dusting tools you really notice its weight. So it could be a problem for some people? Getting the rubbish container back on is a little tricky. Not a game changer though. Just a niggle.

Vax Blade 2 Max VX82 – Yup its good and its inexpensive. We haven't really compared it with the hallowed Dyson, except for a quick squiz in Myers. But at $399 you cant go wrong. Battery hasn't run out while we have been using it. A very slight delay after hitting the on button, but comes up to the first level speed just about instantaneously, this is great for our… Read more

laminate floor. Onto the rugs and hitting the second button starts the rollers and wee lights come on, this is quiet powerful enough to do the job. Thick polyprop carpet is no problem either and there's still the boost speed left if needed. Comes with a crevice tool and soft brush along with charger and bits and pieces.

We found it a little bulky using it as a hand held although there are some instances where it is good, like cleaning down the drop saw and around the ranch-sliders.

We will probably still used the plugin for doing the cars as it might be a tad to bulky.

Emptying is ok but as it fills with carpet fluff its best to empty outside and use a bit of stick to help the wad of stuff out. I'm pretty sure all the brands will be similar.

Yes a great bit of kit at a third of the top dyson price - its got to be worth a tryout. We took ours as carry on luggage back to NZ and picked up the GST on the way as a wee bonus.
