Don't bother – Would honestly have to be the most useless thing you could possibly get. If you want something that stops every 5 minutes in the middle of a show and the remote just wants to drop out all the time then this is your product ! Heck vodafone in general is useless guess how long it took me to load this up!

Sounds good on paper – I used it about a dozen times but the TV signal was very jittery and was unwatchable. Even streaming foxtel the picture was washed out and jumpy. I don't know if it was just my one or this is common but it totally spoilt the experience. In the bin it went. Show details

Good but it does have some issues – Got this last week to replace a STB, since it was not much more than the cheapest STB I could find, plus it had the bonus of in-built Netflix. Setup went smoothly. The unit seems very responsive to the remote and I had no problems using Netflix. I haven't tried installing any other streaming services yet so I can't comment on those. The issues I… Read more

have had so far relate to the live TV support. There was no problem installing the free to air TV stations and the process is pretty much the same as for any STB. However, being hearing impaired I rely on subtitles, and the default subtitle size is *huge* and they don't always fit on the screen properly. I tried the options under "close caption customisation" to reduce the size and also change the colours yet these seemed to have no effect. Another problem I found is that if I changed stations by flicking through them rapidly, often the sound would drop off. Restarting the unit solved the problem but it is annoying.

Can't say enough good things about this device! – I had way too much fun with this device to not post a review. Sourced one of these for my elderly parents who I've set up an enterprise home network for -- along with a file server that houses a backup of their entire CD/DVD/Bluray collection. Started off by installing Stan/Netflix/Kodi/YouTube/Spotify as well as all Australian catch-up TV apps… Read more

(yep, all of them!). You can install Prime Video onto it as well (which actually works flawlessly).

Pros: * 4K support, * HDR, * Gigabit Ethernet, * Wireless AC WiFi (2.4Ghz, 5Ghz -- channels 36-48 and 149-161), * RF Aerial input (ie. it's also a Digital Set-Top Box). There are varying reports over whether or not you can record to a device in the USB port (I didn't try), but there is an option to format a USB hard drive/device that will lock it to your particular Vodafone TV box. * You can plug in certain webcams into the USB port and use Skype/Zoom, * Remote is Bluetooth and has the Google Assistant button as a shortcut on it along with Netflix/Youtube. * Chromecast is built into the OS.

Cons: * Only one USB slot (no idea if you can run a powered hub off it, didn't try), * No 2160p@50/60Hz support, max is 2160p@30Hz (but it DOES have support for 2160@24/25Hz and 1080p@24/25/30/50/60Hz), * Android does not allow any installed apps to change the refresh rate during video playback -- so some videos may appear a little choppy on Kodi or VLC.

Tips: * Don't progress in the setup until it's installed the OS update after connecting to the WiFi for the first time as it'll need to reboot immediately after downloading it, interrupting whatever part of the setup you are up to, * My personal workaround for Kodi was to set the HDMI output of the Vodafone TV to its maximum of 2160@30Hz as most of my father's backups are around 30fps. Regardless of what refresh rate you prefer to encode, just make sure that the Vodafone TV is set at the same rate or double, and you'll have no problems with playback stutter. * If you have large files you want to play via Kodi, house them on a NAS/PC and stream them off the LAN/WiFi, not a hard drive plugged in locally as Android has limitations as to what file systems it supports. I played a 45GB backup ISO over the WiFi with no problem.

I would gladly recommend one of these to anyone.

Bought one, then bought a second. Enough said – I have a 'smart TV' that probably will never be updated, that was having all sorts of issues running Netflix and Plex. Bought one of these direct from Vodafone, and it's been great. So good in fact I got another one to smarten up an old dumb tv. We also have a HD Homerun so can use that to watch live tv, rather than the built in tuner. They… Read more

recently updated to Android 9.0 which is good, and has been very stable although admittedly we don't ask much of it. If you want a really good Android TV box then you should probably spend the extra and get an Nvidia Shield. That costs maybe four times more than this though. The only strange thing that it doesn't directly support yet is Amazon Prime video. Netflix, Disney, Stan, Plex, sure. Amazon - nope. There are ways to get it on with mixed reports on how successful it is, but for now the best way is simply to cast Prime from a mobile device.

Basically, it's not a great android tv box but it's definitely a good one. For the price, it's hard to beat.

*update* So over four years later and the things are still working, although I have retired one (replaced with a Google TV) and am looking at retiring the other soon. They were good, but are showing their age.

One of the best device purchases I've made – All i wanted was an android box to stream video and was recommended this box which at the time was $72. I thought for the price, it was reasonable so I bought it. It so easy to setup and use and the quality was outstanding. I purchased another one 3 months later so now have 2 and they are both almost flawless except for one issue I have with… Read more

Infuriating – I've owned it for about a year and think I've spent more time turning it off and on to try forcing it to reconnect. I've got it plugged in and speed testing at 360mbps and it drops off about once every 10 mins, takes about 5 goes to reconnect and sometimes just glitches out to the point where you can't turn it on or off, just a black screen with a white light on the box and won't do anything. It's terrible Show details

Terrible, terrible, terrible – Bought a Vodafone TV to improve picture quality....what a joke... I have 900mbs internet connection and connected box via ethernet cable. Picture was blurry and colours were over saturated. Thought this would be a huge improvement versus standard aerial but result was really disappointing. TV picture streaming from Apple TV was much better.  Show details

Very useful – This is a very handy little gadget especially for those of a non-tech bent (like me). Connection was stress -free and though I think some of the formatting is cluttered and takes a bit of navigation that is far outweighed by the fact that my 8 year old television his now connected to the internet. Only drawback is searching for something means… Read more ·  1

Vodafone TV Box running AndroidTV 9 – This worked well for about six weeks before picture quality took a dive with colours especially way off the mark. I will send it back if I cannot fix it. Apparently now discontinued! AndroidTV has been rebranded as GoogleTV probably to reduce confusion with the Android phone OS. Show details

Awesome Authentic Android TV Box – I had previously bought another brand Android TV Box which only worked with a Bluetooth remote (no RF) and this was a problem for me as I get headaches from Bluetooth frequency after a while. I searched for a proper Android TV Box (not box that uses a Rooted Android phone system which alot of popular Play apps now detect and won't work on) and… Read more

found this excellent device. AUTHENTIC ANDROID TV which updates to Android 9 on first startup. Can use all the Apps required (Netflix/Stan/Disney...etc) RF Remote (plus Bluetooth also if you like voice control) but the bonus is you can turn off the Bluetooth in settings if you don't like. Also includes an Ethernet Port and FTA (Free To Air TV)(which a lot of other Android boxes don't include). Unit works with my 650 Harmony Remote (Must setup under model Technicolor UIW4030VHA) Excellent operation and works quickly....Highly Recommend!

Exactly what I was looking for – I stumbled across this device when researching another Android TV unit. I bought this unit hoping to replace my Foxtel box in our second room. We don't have tv aerial but have ethernet internet so setup was easy. Have all the catch up apps plus netflix. I've just cancelled my Foxtel box so saving $25 per month. Might get another for the other room and bin Foxtel altogether. Definitely recommend. Show details

proper Android TV box that's supurb value and not locked down – Similar to Guy Stevens review here, at just $72 I would rate this the best budget Android box in the Australian market in 2020. And you don't have to be a Vodafone customer. Anyone can buy it. Pros - Runs Android TV for streaming - and its a proper Google licenced "Android TV" box, so apps from popular streaming services like Netflix are… Read more

officially supported and won't suddenly stop working as they often do on generic Android boxes. - Not locked or crippled like Telstra has done with their Roku box, so it has most of the flexibility of generic Android boxes. You can install many Android apps, not just those visible in the device's Play Store. For example, it runs Kodi and Plex, the best media centres for Android. - Via Kodi it handles difficult file formats like ISO, DVD folder structures, and advanced video codecs such as x265. This was a dealbreaker/maker for me and one reason I purchased. - TV tuner with all Oz channels - Excellent remote - Chromecast built-in - 2.4/5ghz wifi AND an ethernet port, so you have the wired ethernet option from your router/modem if you find your wi-fi troublesome or unstable. - Runs well on Android 9. Most reported issues since the Android 9 update can be fixed with a hard reset and reinstalling the user-installed apps.

Cons - Play Store lacks some popular video streaming apps, which means you have to side load them. Performance of those may vary. - Low disk storage but can be expanded via USB. - With the latest Android 9 update, the USB connection will not read NTFS file systems, only the old FAT format with its 4GB file size limit. This is a known limitation with Android 9 boxes unless the hardware vendor pays a license for NTFS, apparently, and Vodafone has indicated they have no plans to do so. Not a problem for me, as I use a NAS for all media files on my home network anyway. Buy a basic NAS - trust me, you'll never look back. - No auto frame-rate switching - which will bother some high-end users. Get a Nvidia Shield if you want that. - Not a high end gaming device. Again, Get Nvidia Shield for that.

Summary: This unit is incredibly good for the price. After a month of research on Android and Kodi box options I was still set on the expensive Nvidia Shield, then I stumbled on the Vodafone TV. I'm pretty fussy, love streaming, love my home theatre and have a huge mixed media collection - and yet this model ticks most of the boxes.

Best value Android TV box on the market – Pros - Runs Android TV for streaming - TV card tuner included - Not locked so will run any Android app, including Kodi, not just those from the Play Store - Excellent zippy remote - Fully licensed for Google, Netflix etc (unlike cheap Chinese boxes) with L1 Widevine support - Chromecast built-in - 2.4/5ghz wifi and ethernet port Cons - Low disk… Read more

storage (8gb) but can be expanded via the USB port - Amlogic 905 processor + 2gb ram = average hardware performance - No auto frame-rate switching - Basic TV guide and limited recording function

This combined streaming TV/set-top box is a bargain. At $72 it's worth it just for Chromecast. It runs Google's Android TV for easy navigation and untold streaming options - Netflix, Youtube, Amazon, etc, as well as Kodi and much more. The remote is great and picture quality good, though home cinema buffs might want to opt for a top-end box like the Nvidia Shield. For most viewing though, this box is terrific, with 4-star performance, but it gets an extra star for exceptional value.

Fantastic Product – I've had a smart tv for several years but recently I've been looking at other options that are quicker and more powerful - enter the Vodafone tv. The Vodafone tv is a mighty quick unit - seriously more responsive and powerful than what is in the 2013 tv I use.
