Waeco CF110 Fridge Freezer – So, yes, they're getting old now but I'm still very happy with my Waeco CF110. Have read varying reports herein and they are a mixed bag. Bought new in 2006 for $1200 with a cover, it has travelled the length and breadth of Australia during 4WD and boating adventures, in temperature ranging above 40 deg C, to the Cape, Islands, the Gulf country… Read more
and over to Shark Bay a number of times as well as being used on a trailer boat from time to time. I've had my problems, mainly with getting enough voltage to the unit being in the back of the 4WD due crappy plugs and insufficient wiring work. Once these issues were sorted it hasn't missed a beat other than when the fridge stand collapsed and it falling about 1/2 metre to the ground whilst full ... blew the board. Considering the cost of new ones and the fact that I've also trialled a small 240 volt freezer on another extended trip with solar / inverter backup, I probably won't buy a new one. The replacement cost of a small second hand freezer over any 12 volt / 24 volt fridge freezer, new or second hand, simply means better economics having a 240 V version aboard, and when they stuff up, able to buy many replacements before the cost of any 12/24 versions and their servicing costs come into play. Anyway, it's still going well and is due for another 14,500 k trip later this year . . all good.
Huge and heavy but goes well – We got our Waeco CF-110FF second hand a few years ago. Previous owner looked after it as we have too. It's huge and when filled needs two people to move. We've run it in 40 degrees and it handles it well. Yes it will suck a lot of power but as long as the sun is shining you should be ok keeping your battery topped up with suitably sized solar… Read more
panels. We had a 100ah battery and 160W panels. They really should have made the lid restraining strap with metal ends rather than plastic but that's a small problem. We would still be using it but have downsized.
110lt coolmatic 12 v fridge/freezer – Freezer over icy all the time. Fridge always has water in the bottom. Red light always coming on no flashing just always red does this on 12v and when on power 240. Can not recommend this fridge. On level ground always. Lower fridge warm upper keeps frozen as goods are put in frozen. Show details
Unreliable - Will never purchase one again – I purchased my CF-110 back in 2005. So it is 9 yrs old. I have had the odd problem with it here and there, including having to leave it with an authorized dealer who had to replace a board. I last took it out on a week long trip in Nov 2014 and since then it has sat in my shed. I usually run it once a month for about 12 hours to ensure that it… Read more
is still working and to keep everything turning. I turned it on the other day and went back 15 mins later to find that it had turned itself off!! I noticed that the error light was flashing three times every 5 secs. I then unplugged it and turned it on again and this time it ran for about 5 mins and the error light started flashing once every few seconds!! It is out or warranty. I am overall disappointed with the performance, it does not keep things cold very well and chew through battery power like it is going out of fashion. This model also has the "mobitronic" that needs to be used for the 240volt and it is a pain the the backside. At least other brands have thought that through and only have two cords. The mobitronic needed replacing 12 months ago and cost me just over $100. So overall, I would never purchase one again, and would look at other models / brands before purchasing another Waeco. I now feel better after venting my frustrations.
waste of money unreliable – I bought this new and fitted it to go traveling in a troopcarrier with dual battery setup one deep cycle. Fridge works great on 240 v or in car when on the move but once engine is turned off about 4 hours later fridge turns off, replaced Both car battery's still cuts out, then bought waeco car kit with high amp lead, still cuts out shop keeps… Read more
telling me it's a problem with my car, borrowed my brothers engel lasts 3 days with my setup. I'll never buy a waeco again piece of crap lots of people have has similar issues to me if you read forums
Great Fridge – I own a Waeco 110L and a 40L, Have taken these fridges with me up and down the east coast of Australia working and holidaying. I have found the 40L much better for a drinks fridge as it will cool much much quicker than the 110L. Use the big beast for food as it doesnt get opened or room temp replacements constantly cycling through it. Have had… Read more
these two fridges running constantly now for 3yrs straight without issue.....I DID however sway the cigarette lighter plugs for merit plugs initially as cigarette plugs wiggle and dont keep reliable contact when vehicle in motion...I have both fridges in insulated Waeco brand fridge bags but a little sceptical as to how well they insulate ...more for protection cosmetically I think. I love my Waeco,s and wouldnt be without a fridge ever again...
Cannot depend upon my Waecos – Have had three Waeco units over the past 4 years. First one unhappily got drenched, OK I understand, but the cost to repair was nearly as much as a new unit. Since bought a CF110 a couple of years ago. Last used it August 2014, tried to use it today, and I get no power, only runs on emergency. Will be interested to know if it actually cools. CF50 has its off days also.
I've got three Evakool fridge freezers, and a couple of their eskys. The only problem I've had in 15 years, apart from handles and catches, was with the one I got from the seconds shop. At the time they said it would still carry a 5 years guarantee, and when it did play up, I had no problem getting it replaced. Same with Rivets for handles and catches, my needs have been met at no cost and no hassle. I love the Evakool guarantee because they actually honour them.
CF-110 – I have owned my Waeco CF-110 from brand new for 5 years and found it to be the biggest waste of money and should have gone with the Engel. Other than the two latches I've had to replace It has killed two deep 100 amp cycle batteries and I have recently purchased a generator because the 100 watt solar panel I purchased 3 years ago won't replace… Read more
what it's drawing. I have read in other forums about it handling 40+ degree heat which I strongly disagree with as mine likes to switch itself of between 30-35 degrees. I have had it inspected by an authorised dealer and they found no faults with it. At the moment it will only work in override and the led display keeps flickering. By no means have I trashed this unit and have always looked after it but i will never deal in Waeco products again and have put this down to it being a lemon. I am currently negotiating with Dometic and it's looking like the buck will be passed as it's out of warranty. Very disappointed
5 Years old still working today – I brought this fridge and have had some minor issues with it. The Plugs need to be replaced because they fall out. This is common to any compressor 12V Fridge its not a Waeco issue. In short get rid of the cigrette lighter plugs ASAP. I used this unit constantly in the Pilbara region of WA where it got a good work out. Leaving a vehicle up… Read more
there locked in the 46 Deg ambiant heat often led to interior temps of 60 deg the Fridge always performed well.
The issues I have had with this fridge stem from its electronic controls and auto voltage cut-out and overides. I have run heavy duty copper wire back from my spare battery but have always had problems with this units voltage drop cut-out. This unit also has a habit of blowing fuses in its cord just due to normal plugging and unplugging.
During the course of ownersip I purchased an Engel 80 litre Combi. The Engel is now my portable fridge taking the hits and the Waeco sits in the shed keeping the frothies cold.
In short its a bit fidly and there have been issues with the transformer which blew in a cloud of black smoke one day. This was however I foolishly dropped it on the concrete.
These CF110 units are a pretty cheap second hand buy these days but I wouldnt ever cough up $1700 bucks for a new one again. In my experience the Engel in service is noisier and perhaps pulls more current but for my purposes there is simply no comparrison between these fridges.
The Engel just works and has never stopped for any reason. That aside I'm not selling the Waeco, its a good beer fridge in the shed. Its quite simply huge. Its shuts down on low voltage, the plugs are prone to falling out, it has an external transformer which was replaced under warranty
Great unit – Have owned this for 8 odd years - never let me down, either running as a deep freezer at -18C or as a normal chiller at 3 to 4C. Current draw at 38C ambient is about 4.75 at start up, drops back to around 3 amps after settling down; once at temperature, I average around 20 mins of running per hour, or roughly 24 amphours per day (I have allowed… Read more · 2
for 45 amphours in my battery bank). With the low voltage cut out, there is no need to worry about flat batteries, and the turbo mode is great for pulling down the temperature in a hurry when you load the fridge with warm goods. Very happy with this fridge. Pricing, and reliability 12v cord plug in was a bit sloppy, swapped for a 90 degree plug, no dramas.
CF110/CF110Vera/CF110Verb overview & Model identification details (Applies to CF80 as well) – I have the earliest version of this model, the CF110, which has been upgraded twice, namely the CF110 Vera and currently the CF110 Verb...VerA & VerB standing for Version A/B...The early model doesn't have a digital temperature set/readout, only 7 leds to indicate thermostat setting (1=highest 7= lowest setting{-18c}, the "Turbo" button, which ups… Read more
the compressor speed, then cancels itself when that temp. is reached. Power input supply is either 12 or 24 volts. It came supplied with a MPS50A 240 volt to 24 volt converter/supply/switcher.
The CF110 Vera model gave the same fridge, but with the digital controller/temp readout. A big plus, but while the CF60 and below got that too & "AC on board" the CF80 & CF110 missed out, and were still 240 volt powered via the external AC to DC adaptor.
Enter the CF110 Verb, which like most the other CF-Verb models (except the CF25), which have updates to the keypad controls,"auto turbo" and finally AC "onboard" in the case of the CF80/CF110. I mention all of this as I see many second hand sellers knowingly or unknowingly trying to sell earlier models as "only a few or a couple years old" to buyers who have no idea of what is what! If its a compressor fridge with 7 green lights, and not a digital display, you're getting the oldest version! If it's got a turbo button, its a vera ...If its got a set button instead of a turbo button, its a VERB(current models), which by the way have been out for a few years now anyway!
All CF80/110 models use the Danfoss BD50 compressor, a bigger unit than the "35" used in the CF25/35/40/50/60, because it's a big fridge!
Some un-informed people comment that its "power hungry"...not it's not! Its just a big boy that eats a bit more, but can work harder in return. This same compressor powers the Waeco 220 litre 2 door upright model!
As I've mentioned in other reviews on some other models, it is very important to cool down or freeze down all of what you're initially taking on your trip a day or more before you leave, off mains power. Make use of the time that you're driving to set a lower temperature or add replacement drinks etc just before driving, so you can make use of the cars alternator to run the fridge, and charge the slave battery/s. Speaking of batteries...Hmmm. That's another chapter at least, and I've gone on too much here already!
In a few words, use thick cables to your "slave" battery/batteries and/or look at a Redarc BCDC1240, and pay the extra $$$ for 100Ah or bigger AGM deep cycle batteries.(Absorbed Glass Mat) Apart from the extra cost, they're the way to go.(but not under the bonnet unless you use a specific type, because the high temperatures could kill them) If you need a BIG fridge with seperate freezer/fridge/dairy, or can be reconfigured as all fridge or all freezer Nothing really, as long as it is treated with respect. Make sure the cooling air intakes and outlets don't get blocked.
Great! – I have owned my 110 for 9 yrs and it has never let me down.Mine is the older fridge freezer dairy keeper type with no digital temp read out.The only thing I have done is removed the interior light because it wasn't turning off all the time. We travelled Australia for 18 months with a 100 ah battery dedicated to the waeco and never had a power… Read more
problem.I must admit it pays to keep the fridge as full as you can and we made bags with shade cloth filled with beanbag beans for times when the fridge was getting low. Size reliability efficient for the size Lights worthless
OK – works fine but fittings are fragile and break easily nowhere near a durable as an engel Kids have broken several hinges on the door by dropping the lid, light is pretty useless, a large unit that draws plenty of power, good fridge if continuously moving to charge batteries or you have 240v power, otherwise a gas fridge may be a better choice.… Read more
improving durability and robustness of their product should be a priority for electrolux to better compete with engel Big enough to fit everything, separate fridge/freezer with removable divider to convert to large freezer or fridge only very poor fitting/design quality, poor quality and expensive spare parts, Kids have broken several hindges on the door by dropping the lid, light is pretty useless {only lights small crisper area and stays on when door shuts}
