Never again – Like the lay out of this side by side fridge freezer however we too have that black goo oozing out of our fridge. If we don’t keep it wiped off it sticks to the seals which will break them eventually. The only thing we found that will dissolve the goo and clean it of is kerosene. Not happy and would never purchase again. Show details

Black tar / oil leaking from bottom of unit – We purchased a Westinghouse the WSE 7000 SF fridge/freezer from good guys grepp cross SA 2014 as a wedding present, cost $2,200. Has caused seal to rip of the bottom off the fridge and freezer, as it sticking to it, my research into this on the net, has show me that this is a common problem that westinghouse has know about from 2011. Which is very poor to know. I have had a Westinghouse fridge/ freezer befor for over 25 years, and never had a problem. A Westinghouse fridge/ freezer should not have this problem on a short time in ouning it. How do i get this fix & how much am i looking at $$

So to all of your surprise we bought another westinghouse the same...believe it or not.

I guess the way we look at it we have been in this house 20 years and bought only two fridges both Westinghouse.

So 10 years each if you look at like us.

The main aspect of the saga is that the fridge was working perfectly, just didn't look that great.

But I think stick with the brand you know that works and hopefully this one will go another 10 years and more than that I hope I go more than 10 years and let you know the next part to the saga.

Go westinghouse this new one is a ball tearer.

Plastic on inside back of fridge cracking – Dear Westinghouse / Electrolux Support, I am including to a link picture of our WSE7000WF white fridge that we purchased about 3 years ago: The picture shows cracks appearing at the back of the fridge wall. I have been really happy with the fridge to date - the centre dividing part between the fridge and freezer gets a little hot and it could be a little quieter - but otherwise its ok. I really just want a functioning fridge - so whatever you can do to help would be appreciated.

I will be posting this and your replies on product review and google reviews so other customers can use it as a reference since i could not find the same issue online.

***** Updated 4th August 2021*****

I am updating this as Westinghouse replaced our fridge free of charge and out of warranty period. Our new fridge is working and has been working since we got it years ago - Thanks Westinghouse - great job on standing by your customers!

Sincerely, Stuart

Black oozey substance – No. Temperature affected. The freezer side is now frosting thick layers ice on everything. The black oozy sticky substance has stuck tight the door seal, upon opening has caused the seal to come away from the door edge. This black oozy substance appeared a couple of years ago. Just a fridge, not really fit for purpose – Bought the fridge in 2011, worked ok until yesterday when it tripped the safety switch. Repair man came and checked fridge, found that the defrost heater element was not… Read more

working and that the compressor fan was u/s. Very disappointed. The fridge had many of the symptoms mentioned in this forum, particularly the very hot centre piece of the fridge, the failed condenser fan and the defrost element failing.

Did eventually contact Westinghouse to see if they might like to consider some assistance with the repair job but basically got that there were no recalls on this particular model and it was out of warranty. Wasn’t at all surprised with the response from Westinghouse when I did ring them, was exactly as I expected! Told operator that fridge was not fit for purpose as only 7 years old and that a reasonable person could expect a fridge to last longer than that. In the end I was told to contact customer care via email and give all details, including that of the repair man and whether he was ‘accredited’ by them! I have done that and have asked for a response by next week as in the meantime we are making do with friends freezer and esky until the parts turn up and get put in.

Will post response if and when I get one?

Update 16/4/18. As expected negative response from Electrolux because the problem I encountered, faulty defrost heater element (this shorted out causing the fridge to stop totally) and a faulty condenser fan are not considered to be a major problem. Electrolux were unable to state what does constitute a major problem and they do not believe that when a fridge stops working that that is a major problem!!

So at this point they flatly refuse to provide a refund of the costs of the repair to the fridge even though they deny that this is a known problem with this particular product. They did suggest that if they had 'seen' the fridge prior to this episode then they might have had a different opinion as to whether it was a major fault.

Will definitely not be buying another product from Electrolux!!

unit spat the dummy. We do not have children opening and shutting the fridge so it has been maintained and handled with care. This is a very disappointing result from a Westinghouse product. Our previous Westinghouse fridge (one door, freezer on top) lasted for 20 years plus - we only replaced it because it would have been using a lot of power. One question - is it a waste of money to get a fridge mechanic out to look at this model?

6 years+ and still going fine – I haven't had any issues with the temperature control from this fridge. It isn't a "loud" fridge/freezer, though guests sleeping in the same room as it do find i annoying as it turns itself off and on. Cleaning is fine on it. Only things that annoyed me was the freezer side is quite narrow. I probably would get an upside down fridge/freezer next time for the ergonomics.  Show details
