parts a problem – I have a Yamaha ef2000is which is about 4 years old that used to run fine until it was unused for 18 months. Now it needs a new carby but there is none available in Australia, I have been trying to purchase one for 5 months to no avail so I am now regretting buying a Yamaha instead of a Honda. If you cant buy spares don't buy the product!. Show details

Great generator – I bought my ef 2000is for the blackout that lasted two weeks after the mount Dandenong storms in June this year. And again this October. It won't power the world but it will get you out of a jam without having to throw out all your food. Runs the fridge, a couple of lights, all the chargers and has now done a couple of hundred hours without missing a beat. Runs about 10-11 hrs in economy mode and is quiet on that setting. Show details

Should really be labelled as EF1600iS instead – When reading the specifications sheet, the Yamaha EF2000iS outputs a max of 1600 Watts continuously. It can only briefly run at 2000 Watts, but for no more than approximately 5 seconds. This is also similar with the Honda EU20i, so the product marketing folks are really stretching the truth there. So for caravan owners, this generator may not… Read more

be powerful enough to get the a/c going, especially when using a long power lead, to distance the generator away from caravan, to reduce the amount of background noise.

Big plusses are the fuel shutoff valve (which Honda only introduced with their newer EU22i) and the relatively low noise levels compared to the cheaper generators, however I could only directly compare noise levels side by side with a 1000 Watt Ryobi generator, and the Yamaha wins hands down.

The Yamaha runs super smoothly in comparison, and the quality of the build appears to be very high.

For most typical caravan owners, this generator is going to be a tad undersized to run the airconditioner using a long power lead. Forget about running the microwave, hair dryer, etc all at the same time or you'll end up going outside to restart the generator.

Restarting the Yamaha when it is warm will involve a few pulls. Starting it cold is a breeze.

I bought my unit off eBay, and it's 3 years old, very little signs of use.

My summary is that this is a high quality, quiet generator but power outputs are modest at 1600 Watts. Just remember most electric kettles these days are 2400 Watts!

Quiet and reliable - other reviews are nothing like our experience – We have had this generator on our yacht which we live on for 18 months now. Used to top up batteries through an Enerdrive 60 amp charger and resistive loads such as hairdryer, coffee machine and a 10 litre hot water system. We have had two events where grit had stuck the carb needle but that's not a generator problem. Easy to access to fix. Unit… Read more

sits outside on the deck and under a seat so exposed to salt air. We bought a second one as back up just in case.. Runs one to four hours every day. When choosing a generator make sure the maximum load is well understood although these generators can be linked to almost double output.

Good unit, other reviews are off the mark – It is a small camping generator designed to run for long periods of time at modest loads including sensitive equipment, anything else then you should (have) purchased a more regular style generator of a higher capacity. Mine is fine for at least 3 portable fridges, and some lights, or during a power failure a few house hold items sparingly,… Read more

anything more is asking too much of any 2000w generator.

We regularly use a honda of the same capacity, and funnily enough they are about the same.

Any small carbureted engine that has fuel left in the carb bowl will be hard if not impossible to start, so turn the fuel off and let it run dry....easy

Cheers

Beware of this generator – Purchased new in 2015. The machine ran well for a short. Next trip was harder to start and eventually would only run with choke over half way engaged. Clearly a fuel problem. Next trip the generator would not even start. Possibly a blocked jet. The total running time of machine would be about 5 hours. Show details

Quiet, hard to start and a little underpowered – There's a big difference between labelling a generator something 2000 and it really being a 1.6kVa generator. Its Max output is rated at 2kVa, but 1.6 is its rated capacity. What it will do is run a water pump in a black out ,some power tools and charge batteries. What it won't do is boil a fast boil kettle or run high demand tools eg a yard… Read more

blower vac. Its very difficult to start, even after returning it to the dealer to check out, it usually takes several very vigorous pulls of the recoil starter to get going (I've found that cursing helps!). The critical reason I wanted when I purchased this generator was to be easy to start both for my wife and me. I'm getting on in years but now I'm contemplating buying a cheap Chinese key start generator, to save my shoulder if it doesn't get any easier. Looks stylish, economy mode, handy DC battery charging facility A real Bast**d recoile start, one Ac outlet & have to take the cover off to check the oil etc
