Very very poor quality it's wood chip and won't grow even a weed. In my opinion the worst mix in my 35yrs of gardening BEWARE don't buy this brand of potting mix. Show details
I usually use the premium Rocy Point potting mix was in a hurry so grabbed a bag of this from Bunnings, thinking I was saving time and being a known brand, things would be ok. How wrong I was. The mix is mostly bark with very little substance. Repotted a few healthy plants, now not doing well. Abpout to repot with my preferred mix, which is actually cheaper than Yates. Never again. Yates premium potting mix is 99% wood mulch – Had two rare plants bought online and arrived well watered with great roots one with leaves half cut the other was trimmed to the stem. straight away repotted them with Yates premium mix from Bunnings to see new shoots start then a few stunted leaves stop in their tracks after a few weeks like a bad silkworm moth .After all the constant rain the… Read more
potting mix was exposed as 99% timber mulch which made me cry as I think both will die even after repotting in the most premium mix available including my rare seedling tray.
Over $200 lost in seeds and 2 plants because of my faith in Yates brand..... Maybe need asbestos check too , how the mighty have fallen is beyond me !
Disappointed – DISAPPOINTED Have never purchased Yates potting mix with dynamic lifter before and won’t be rushing to buy it again. Purchased Yates Potting Mix with Dynamic Lifter early January, 24, used to repot two healthy large plants that needed repotting, Ficus elastics and Areca palm along with a lot of smaller pots of various indoor plants. I must admit… Read more · 1
when I opened the bag it was quite solid and smelt quite strange, had a lot of white substance in it, but Yates products had a good name so I trusted it and reported all. Over the last three or four weeks I have watched these plants yellow off and drop their leaves. Don’t give them much of a chance of recovery
Don't know what happened to others – I purchased this on spec just because our tiny, almost useless 'Funnings' had discontinued the one I normally rely on. I got two good bags of well rotted potting mix, fluffy and dark, no sour pine chip smell or feel. They're all mostly pine chip, but levels of decomposition count! It seems to hold water ok so far. I mix scoria or perlite into… Read more
potting mix, helping to keep it open, moist and aerated, and so maybe that affects things as far as performance goes. But I haven't noticed anything untoward.
Perhaps other people's bags were filled from the edge of the composting bays, where things don't break down as much - which would be a quality control issue. All I know is that I'm reasonably happy so far, considering the substandard offerings of potting mix in Australia from ANY company. What I'd give to have something reliable like Espoma or Fox Farm that is available in the US for a decent price. That said, the Yates premium with dynamic lifter seems to be no worse than the others, and it'll do for now.
Rubbish – I used this product to pot some newly purchased plants into newly purchased pots, almost immediately, the leaves went yellow and the plants started to die. The premium price potting mix cost me a lot more than the almost $9 for the bag, I lost about $60 of plants as well. Really annoyed! Will never purchase Yates anything again. Show details

Worst potting money can buy in Australia – I have regularly used Yates Dynamic Lifter in pallet format for lawn and garden in spring to provide nutrition. I have been very happy with the product accept for the odor. Given the high reputation of company's product in particular the Dynamic Lifter I bought two 30L Yates Potting Mix with Dynamic Lifter from Bunnings (see picture below). I… Read more
have to say it is the worst potting mix you can buy for premium price of $8.98 from Bunnings Australia. Sawdust used to create the potting mix is uncomposted. This is to reduce production cost and ensure that the material is light and less compact so that it fills the 30L bag with lower volume of potting mix as it is less dense compared to fully composted potting mix which is more dense. I did not think a company of Yates integrity will be disingenuous by selling uncomposted potting soil with few teaspoons of dynamic lifter. When you use this potting mix it is like using shredded paper rather than quality potting mix whilst paying premium price. I had to throw the soil in the garden bed and buy potting mix from another company to top up my soils in large potting containers.
Please avoid this product. It is disingenuous of Yates to sell such low quality product at ridiculus premium price in the Australian market. I hope sanity prevails in the company and they change the quality of the potting mix and avoid deceiving Australian consumers in future. Global pandemic is causing many viable businesses to shut down I just hope that this company maintains loyalty of its customers by providing quality product at a competitive price.

Looks like rubbish – Looks like composted sawdust. Am not feeling hopeful that my veggies will grow. Can't detect any order of dynamic lifter. Not light and fluffy like good potting mix is. Drying out on surface really quickly even though weather is cool. Show details
Absolute garbage – Absolute garbage potting mix, it's nothing but sawdust. Doesn't retain water, doesn't provide nutrition for the plants and you'd probably have more lucky trying to grow something in concrete. Horrible. Show details

What happened to good quality potting mix? – A few years ago I bought Yates potting mix at Bunnings. It was like dirty sawdust, no Humus and definitely no nutrition for precious plants. I have not bought their products since but they're not the only culprit. Bought other big name brands just as bad. I despair because they are treating us gardeners like fools hoping we wont notice what they're shoveling up to us. Wrong!!! We noticed. Show details

Do not buy Yates Potting Mix with Dynamic Lifter – I had always regarded Yates garden products highly until recently. The Yates Potting Mix with added Dynamic Lifter that I purchased from Bunnings was terrible! Ironically, the Yates product was the most expensive of potting mix products available here. It appeared to be purely fine woodchip mulch with no soil, water retention qualities or… Read more
nutritional value for my plants.
I lodged a complaint with Yates and was contacted by a Customer Representative and asked to supply images of the product, barcodes, receipt etc.
The Customer Representative stated she would provide credit and some other Yates gardening products............... guess what, they were not sent!
So please do yourself a favor and DO NOT PURCHASE this product.
Save yourself and your plants the grief, buy one of the cheaper alternatives and save some money too!!
