Great facilities and location – Great facilities, equipments are well-serviced! Not crowded in the morning, great for a quick gym session and shower before going to work! Suggest to hire more staff for shower clean up.
Great facility – I have been attending the gym for awhile. The members are polite I'va had no issues there. The staff have always been happy to spot or correct technique. Equipment is good, they put in a functional studio downstairs before Christmas with a matrix and bumper plates which filled the gap they were missing with heavy lifting capacity.
offensive and rude – I volunteered with the YMCA on an event and was given a pass to the Gyms as a gift. Upon arrival at the ANZ Centre Docklands gym, Tuesday morning 7am, fully packed with my gear and excited to do a workout, the lady behind the desk rudely asked me where I got the pass from, I said I volunteered and it was a gift. she then went on to ask me where I'm based...I said what do you mean based, I'm only a volunteer, she then questioned me out of which office did I volunteer and where did I get the pass from as they are only given out from head office YMCA, I said yes that's right, what is the problem? she further interrogated me continuously asking me where I'm based....again!. I was completely perplexed at the questioning, she acted like she worked for Border Security not YMCA. I then asked what is the problem...she said I haven't seen you before. I said but I was here yesterday and there was no problem. I wasn't breaking into her house, what was her problem? I was able to give her the name of the wonderful lady at the YMCA and my name hoping this would put an end to the questioning but she then wanted me to give her the spelling of the names. this is what you get for being a volunteer????? pathetic, she needs a reminder where she works and what it represents and some training in social skills and professionalism. so incredibly put off the gym now that I was thinking about becoming a member after the trial but now have no desire to work out in such a negative environment. she's destroying the reputation of what YMCA stands for.
Bad – overall = disappointing. not the 'fun' community based gym expecting. staff are young and unresponsive, unwilling to assist unless it fits in with them. slow customer service or getting any program updates & advice from trainers. when busy not enough machines for the apartment block it services and outside members. close to city ... if you work in the city or live around docklands.
has a pool although not very wide. limited classes with no classes on weekends and limited opening hours.
Excellent – Highly recommend. Variety of classes and friendly atmosphere with a 'community' feel. Fitlinxx reward system allows you to accumulate 'points' for rewards/prizes is a good incentive. Have run three 45km marathons due to the support and encouragement given by Y Docklands staff (...so I ran it in 4 hrs 31 min...I still 'did it') ;-) Trevor 27 May 2009 Close to work; fun friendly staff Looks a bit small with the way the gym is laid out and has different exercise zone areas but once you get familiar with it, seems to work.
