AE51 tyres - Excellent tyres with amazing wet weather performance – Ok, pricey tyres at 180 a tyre but they are fantastic with incredible grip in the dry and the wet. Leagues better than anything else I've driven on. I believe the AE51 is the upgraded version of the AE50. These are definitely next level in every category. Purchased 4 from tyresales and they are made in Japan. Show details

Yokohama AE50 Nissan Maxima – Has these fitted 215/55R17 to replace Michelins. Ara a bit noisier. Have had less life, but can't really complain though. Got 60K out of these, but got about 90k out of the Michelins. Would go back to Michelin for the next set. Show details

Feels Safe – Review is based on these tyres replacing original tyres on a Lexus ES300h - Yokohama Decibels. Being a hybrid front wheel drive, the car can quickly generate torque on the front wheels that can make the front tyres lose traction for 1-2 seconds under heavy acceleration. I had driven 15,000km on both the Decibels and BluEarth tyres. With the… Read more

Decibels, traction could be lost when accelerating hard on dry roads. AE50's - keeps traction in dry conditions.

In the wet, Decibels lost traction to a point where there was also a loss of control over direction (steering), albeit for 1 second. The AE50's lose traction, but duration was shorter and road feedback felt that control over direction remained (it feels as if only 50% traction is lost, there's a feeling that the tyres are gripping the road).

Comparing the 2 tyres, I assume Lexus chose the Decibels as a hard wearing (45,000km), fuel efficient (low rolling resistance), quiet tyre. The AE50 matched the Decibels on being equally fuel efficient and quiet. On wear, it's a softer tyre (30,000km), but my previous experience with Pirelli's is that's the price for having a better gripping tyre.

1 star deducted because for good/high performing soft wear tyres, the value for money proposition (need to replace tyres every 30,000km) reflects the quality premium that is paid.

There's a 2-star review that bases the comparison against the BluEarth AE01 (base BluEarth), which is consistent with Choice testing, that the basic version of these tyres outperform the premium version of these tyres. Given the price differential, I am considering trying the AE01 at the next tyre change. The logic that stops me, is the AE50 is a stronger tyre (higher load and speed ratings), and given I am driving a car that weighs in at 1.9 tonnes, unsure on the impact on handling (roll).

Good tyres, great price – I've recently replaced my Khumo tyres with these Yokohamas and they seem to be a much better tyre. The road noise is reduced and there's far less roll in the corners. Price wise they were very good value for a mid level tyre compared to nearly all the name brand ones. All in all I'm very happy with my choice!  Show details

Ba Falcon Wagon Use – Yokohama bluearth-a ae50 216/60 fitted on a ba falcon wagon two years ago. Eight out of ten for noise when new, going to seven out of ten from mid life onwards. They have done 27000kms now, I expect the tyres to last about 30,000kms. 10% of these were when towing a 1.5 ton caravan. Handling and grip was good to very good. I would not buy these again. I shall try to purchase tyres that will last a bit longer.  Show details

Great all rounder – I have them on my magna and the traction and control are great. They handle large amounts of water with ease and dirt is no problem either. Would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a good all rounder. Great comfortable ride and low road noise highly recommend this tyre  Show details

Much Quieter – 205/55/16 AE50's replaced the 4 noisy Toyos which were on wifeys 2012 Mazda 3 since new. The Toyo's had done 50k and still had some life left but we were sick of the road noise, which has been there since the car was new. It was like cheese and chalk, huge reduction in road noise. I'm not knocking Toyo, but I also put 4 Yoko Geolandar 235/75/15 on… Read more

my Ranger 6 mths ago and I love them as well.

We also had a wheel alignment, recommended by Tyres and More, as our Mazda 3 has front and rear adjustability. The alignment was within specs, but a small adjustment was done to minimise tyre wear.

These AE50/s are much quieter. We don't do any hooning, so I don't know what the tyre wet and dry limits are, but for normal driving they are plenty safe enough to put under my wife's Mazda.

A perfect tyre for my car – - Replace the old Bridgestone tyres with Yoko and I feel they are very quieter, drive perfectly. - I would recommend this to friends and members in my family. - I bought the tyres at genuine Honda Service but you could have better price as Costco with the same quality.  Show details

quality tyre for everyday use – 235/45/17 size, got them on the 4 for 3 deal around easter 2016, and it has been on the road for about 10k kms since then. 1, happy about the durability, still heaps of depth left 2, low noise on motor way, you only hear noise of wind between sydney and canbera 3, not much difference on fuel consumption compare to previous oem… Read more

continantal tyres

4, as this is a family car, we don't do any harsh driving, so not sure about brakes and handing at extream cases, but good enough for everyday commute.

A perfect tyre I have ever used – One of the Old 4 Michelins had a unrepairable punch. It's already 87K, so just replace all 4 of them. Get a buy 3 for 4 deal. Told they are quiet and suitable for my Nissan Maxima. All done in an hour. Drives perfect. They are quieter than Michelin, and the fuel consumption went down a lot, maybe because they are new. Anyway I absolutely recommend them for those Mid sized Non Performance car owners.  Show details

I'm impressed and I'm ultra selective tyres best grip/ride/fair price – Early days yet but so far theses tyres (215/60/16) on a heavy car feel very smooth, quiet and turn in well on both wet and dry roads.. Especially quiet on rough roads, better than previous Yokohama Cdrive 1&2 and at reasonable price $135 Aus each. Only concern is how long they might last going from others reviews - time will tell.  Show details

Surprised at other reviews here – When I read the other reviews on this product here, I am rather dubious about their authenticity. We can't be discussing the same tyre. Had a good run with Yokie AE-01's, I thought the AE-50 would be better, or at least as good. Having done about 2,000km on them I am sorely disappointed - they are noisier and their wet grip is nothing to write home about. If I had my time over I would definitely get something else.  Show details

Yokohama Blue Earth AE50 - 215/60-16 – Only travelled 3000 km and very quiet. 99V load rating and appear to be shock absorbing over rough road and pot holes with tyre pressure 35/35 psi, good ride over rough road. Made in Philippines. Tread appears to have a good wide foot print compared to Bridgestone EP100. Wet weather & dirt road grip is very good. No tyre balance issue as yet,… Read more ·  2

initially had a balance problem but this was due to a damaged rim. Once replaced no vibration.

Purchased at Bob Jane buy 3 get 4.

Yokohama BluEarth AE50 Tyres – I got these for an Audi A4 and they are a fantastic tyre (they replaced the original Pirelli P7's). Very quiet and have driven on them for just over 5,000kms in one of Melbourne's wettest winters. The grip is great and very predictable in the wet (stopping and around corners). The rolling resistance is supposed to also be low - which should save… Read more

fuel, but I haven't seen much difference in the fuel economy over the last 5,000kms (but that's probably my driving!). Great value from Bob Jane with buy 3 get 4th free deal.

Brilliant grip in the wet or dry! – If you're keen to hang on in the wet, have a smooth quiet run in dry conditions and want a tyre that won't be bald after six months of normal driving, put these new Yokohama's at the top of your list. I'd put the 215/60-16's I've got now, and the 225/45-17's I had on my previous car, bang on level terms with Potenza RE001's for grip, noise and wear, but at a much better price.  Show details
